But defensively ability out wide 1v1 is so much different than the middle of the park, where all your positioning and everything is different.

Let alone their ability on the ball isn't good enough to play there. Again, the angles are all massively different and time on the ball is massively reduced.
    Fair points.

McTom for Andreas if fit. I've gone for Young over Williams, because I think this is a tough game to be throwing the youngster into away from home against a team with an exceptional home record.

They've lost as many games at home as they've won? I agree it'll be a tough game but their home record certainly isn't exceptional

Fair dues, when you're right you're right. I don't know why I thought their home record was really good. I had the Arsenal win in my head, thought they'd won most of their points at home.

Mentality: You clearly can see that they are fighters and won’t hide

defensive ability: They are both more than capable of protecting the defense since that’s their bread and butter

pace: they are both mobile and will not be over-run in the midfield

I feel those are pretty good reasons to play them, given we sorely lack options in that area.
There’s more to being a defensive midfielder than just being able to defend and get about. Their passing ability isn’t accurate or consistent enough and it’s likely their awareness in that area of the pitch could leave them open to getting dispossessed or dribbled past. Central midfield is probably the most complex area to play in and with no experience there I don’t think they’d be up to it.

I’m praying we buy a CM in January.

Fairly confident about this one, then again you never know with us...

I think we will just about win a tough game, 2-1 is my prediction. We don't tend to concede too many goals, however, we do tend to let in a goal in most games  but I am starting to see signs that we are capable of scoring a few goals in a game and with Sheffield United's strong defence, we would do well to score more than 2.

Williams has been awarded man of the match BOTH times he's started a game.

It's also important to note that Sheffield United are not a huge offensive threat like you expect Chelsea or Liverpool to be. It is not a high scoring side. Their strength entirely lies in their ability to close ranks in the back and catch teams too high up.

Sheffield Uniteds problem on the other hand is that they will be playing a side that is just as hard to score on as they are. Key difference is that our strikers are vastly better, and are finally hitting form.

We're the favorites in this match, but we should not make the assumption that this will be easy, because it will certainly be a tight game, unless the floodgates somehow open.

Can't see us keeping a clean sheet in this one. Another tough away fixture against a phisical team that will fancy their chances against Lindelof. I would take a scrappy 2 1 victory. Until the january transfer window I couldn't care less how we manage to win games as long as we win them somehow.
What makes you think that we are going to buy in January?
We didn't buy more players in the Summer, because we were saving money.
And for exactly the same reason, we won't buy in January.

It makes absolutely no sense to not buy players in Summer, but buy players in January. The best players are normally only available in the Summer.

Whichever way you look at it, we aren't buying in January.

    Lindelof - Maguire - Rojo
    AWB - Andreas - Fred - Williams
    James - Martial - Rashford
We should match their formation. Central midfield looks a bit light but probably no other options available.

I just hope we don't get another Bournemouth performance. It would really be a huge step forward if we can beat Sheffield United next weekend. This shouldn't even be a thing but it's where we're at right now. Can't wait for Pogba to come back in to see how far we can really kick on but we should be able to win this. I've predicted 2-1 United.

Terrible fixture, I think we'll draw, which if we follow up with wins against villa and spurs, won't be bad at all.

Very Tough fixture for us. I would go 3-5-2

    ------------------De Gea-----------

    --Lindelof-------Maguire--------Rojo

    --AWB------Matic----Fred----Pereira----Williams

    -------Rashford----------------Martial

James as our super sub, if things are not going well.

This game might have a bit more of a must win feel for ole now. Pochettino available, wouldn't take much for the vultures to circle again.

On a side note, we have Tottenham home in 2 games. Jose back at old Trafford?

Start of the season they lost 3/4 although two of those were narrow losses to Leicester and Liverpool. Last two have been Arsenal and Burnley wins and not conceding a goal in either.

This will be a low scoring game, think it will be 1-1.

I think 3-4-3 with Fred and Andreas is our only realistic option. I'd start Williams at left back, i think there is nothing that young does better at this point. Team should be:

    DDG
    Lindelof Maguire Rojo
    AWB Fred Andreas Williams
    James Rashford Martial

Im optimistic these days, our forward line has goals in it. I'm going for a 3-1 win to us.

I think we'll use the back three too (to allow our wingbacks to handle the overlapping CBs), but I can see it being something like this:

    De Gea
    Lindelof Maguire Rojo
    Wan Bissaka Andreas Fred Young
    Lingard
    Martial Rashford

With James to come on in the second half if needs be. I would be starting Williams, but I think Ole will want more experience/discipline in that position. Young and AWB did well against Liverpool at wingback.

I agree that Ole might start Young, though i personally think he doesn't offer more discipline than Brandon, as he gives the ball away much more and suspect defensively, let alone the energy levels he offers. But i feel Ole might start him anyways.

As for Lingard, i think we lose a lot of pace up front without James and he has been preforming very well. I would start him as right now Lingard is offering no end product at all.

This game will tell us if we really have turned a corner or if it was just a case of playing against weak teams when we are at home where we had the chance to play expansive against very weak opposition when there are acres of space to exploit

It may not tell us a huge amount if its a cobbled together midfield. McTominay isn't training yet so I don't think there's any chance he'll be fit.

Sheffield aren't scoring that much and their defensive record at home isn't great. I'm going for 0-1 or 1-2.

You would think so. You'd be surprised though. We'll drop points here (1-1 I reckon) but then we'll beat Alkmaar at home or something and the reset button will be hit again.

Who knew we'd be at the end of November and the United from Sheffield would be higher than the one from Manchester?

This is a must win game now, considering the circus created by the sacking of Pochettino.

I hope the players are fired up due to the return of Mourinho in the PL and are ready to prove him wrong in support of our current manager.

Only big issue is McTominay's injury which might mean we have to play Pereira, Lingard or even worse - Matic - in his place.

Fred needs to continue with his recent performances as well, we need that stability in midfield.

    Great to see Axel back.

Ole tends to do well after an international break - seems to use the extra time to get a good game plan together (not sure whether that's a complement or not) - like against Spurs last season and Liverpool this season.

I'm confident we'll handle Sheffield tactically. Just hope our forwards can take their chances.

He was in a cast last week.

    What do people want?
    People are very odd. They genuinely expect sport stars to;

    1. Be training all day, non stop. Only rests allowed when eating or sleeping.

    2. No fun allowed, only serious faces and hard work.

    3. No showing off their wealth, family or their lifestyle. We only want to see them on the training pitch.

Matic or Garner are the best alternatives for McTominay's position. Putting Pereira or Lingard in central midfield doesn't make a lot of sense to me. What's the logic behind it? Who will play as the attacking midfield? The main doubt I have with Matic is he just returned from injury and hasn't played yet.
