Just saying, we'd have more points if Lukaku was still here. This summer really has been dreadful transfer business wise.

Six from twelve possible points. Keep it up and we'll end up exactly where Wolves finished last season at 57 points. However this is still a squad in the process of settling in so I remain hopeful they'll improve as the season progresses.
    It’s worse...we have 5 points.

We were average - we weren't very, very bad as some make it out to be.

Bringing on Matic so that Pogba can move forward wasn't a bad idea nut lingard should have been greenwood
Oh no.. Don't get me wrong. I'm not blaming Ole for bringing Matic on to get Pogba forward. Just saying that being our option speaks volumes.

Can SAF come out of retirement? Surely it is worse for his health to be sitting in the stand watching this kind of football for 6 years running?

I have to believe that he knows best but I do feel that we need Ibrahimovic winning mentality as our squad is extremely fragile.
His loyalty to some of these players will cost him his job and not going for the best players. I am happy with Maguire, AWB and definitely James, but they were never enough.

Pogba was a completely different player when he was finally pushed further forward. Why we persist with wasting his talent playing deep between defence and midfield is beyond me.

Absolutely brutal. Yes, we were the dominant team, but we were sloppy in possession again. Pogba just takes way too many touches and gets dispossessed way too easily. It's like all he wants to do is give the money ball to set up a goal rather than just keep it simple with one and two touch passes and moving. The only plus from this match was AWB defensively (7 tackles!!!), Daniel James and Greenwood's brief appearance. Lingard was brutal. He was trying to do too much. Again, pass and move. We also have a lot of work to do if we are going to insist on working the ball out from the back. If we are having trouble getting through Southampton's press, then what's going to happen when we play a team like Liverpool or City. As good as AWB was defensively and in the offensive 3rd, he wasn't very good with the ball at his feet in our end. There is a player there though so I expect to see that improve. Definitely some work to do going into the international break. One thing I would like to see when we come back is more of Greenwood. This kid is going to be something special...

Lots of 'experts' on here said he was fine in that role and Bruno should have signed to play AM.

Pogba is absolutely shite at CM. A liability.

Yes. The three signings are positive.
But our biggest loss is Herrera and our midfield is average at very best. I just don't feel comfortable with Pogba playing so deep.
He gives the ball away in dangerous areas.
We are where we are. Pretty average.
    Average manager. Average players.
    Average club.
Even the ground is now pretty average. Is it the only PL ground without a big screen.

Yes he gives the ball away far too often and opens up dangerous counters for the opposition. You want him playing in front of the CM so they can mop up for him when he makes a mistake attempting some piece of magic.

Thats a really good point. Not easy travelling to the South coast for an early kick off. Not many teams will go to Southampton this season and get a point. And whats more, they were down to ten men for the last 20 minutes as well.

I think we will look back on this point at the end of the season and appreciate that it was a point.

I think we can all now finally agree that its obvious that we didn't actually need any additional signings in the summer to allow us to compete comfortably with the likes of this very good Southampton side and that accomplished Crystal Palace side last week. And dont forget that we took a point from Wolves too. (And they are in Europe)

Going to be a long season

do any of the players care? someone will come on social media or TV and tells us about "going again". trouble is going nowhere. mid-table ordinariness. it is so dull watching us which is a huge indictment of a real Manchester United
I think mid-table ordinariness may be a bright outlook considering the state of the team and the way they played.

I award us one extra as I'm still in denial over getting robbed during the Crystal Palace game (not really it was just a typo). Either way today was poor - our conversion rate is miserable. We're able to press high and keep possession which is a big step up from last year when we couldn't even keep the ball while staying passive in our own half - and also the occasional slip-up aside our defense isn't quite the mess it was.

But we're completely lacking that finishing touch and also some creativity. The drive is there we're coordinated enough to create openings but decision making is miserable in terms of exploiting these. Our attackers are too immature - lacking oversight and exhibiting poor judgement as if they're playing in their own little reality blind to what's going on around them.

We're impotent as far as penetration is concerned - and even when we do get into a decent shooting position we lack a proper striker capable of netting it. It's ironic that during Ole's first campaign we're being undone due to being short on the exact skills he himself built his entire career on - and also frustrating to watch as it seems our play in other areas is finally getting good.

have to admit originally didn't think we should have had a penalty but seeing the twit referee in his little box, rio's right: the defender missed the ball and caught james. that, by bloody definition, is a penalty

the biggest indictment on the club is I'm not really sure I'll care if I miss a game. we really are worse than when we went down in the early 1970s

Me too my friend me too. I can sense the despair of a proper Manchester United fan.
We really do deserve far more but deserving and achievement are two different things.

    More importantly, where is Fred?
Still not up to speed fitness-wise I guess.

You didn’t see Gomes last night then.

Great goal then disappeared the rest of the game. His time will come, The Rochdale game is ideal for him
Nope, didn't see him last night, would have liked to see him coming off the bench today though, couldn't offer less brains than Lingard.

Lingard is absolutely brainless but I’d have started him ahead of Pereira. 3 coaches haven’t rated him but Ole sees what exactly?

I honestly don't, like in the thread about the 2 of them I said it's like choosing between having a glass of piss or a glass of sewage water with your meal.
