Palace have won 2 and drawn 1 in their last 3. Beat Everton away and drew with Leicester away as well.
They have also lost just 2 in their last 10 in the league

Players might be a bit tired. I think Adnan is extremely talented. He could do with a start and getting more than 5 minutes at the end.

We have to use our squad, however thin it might be. We have a lot of games coming up.. Keep things fresh.

Maybe Januzai could be subbed in for Mata for the last twenty minutes.

I think the clearest thing I got from todays game was that Daley needs a rest. He's been in the matchday squad of every single game in every competition all season. He was on the bench for two games back in October, but other than that he's played almost every single minute of 41 games already.

If Smalling is back, I'd like to see any of TFM, McNair, Rojo or CBJ beside him and Blind sent somewhere relaxing for a week off. Otherwise the same team with Rashford on the right and Martial up top, and our two friendly Spaniards sent out with a bollocking ringing in their ears to work harder, smarter and better.

Good point. Blind looks to be a fairly consistent player but he was shocking last match, easily the most unreliable player on the pitch. Smalling's strength and Rojo's recovery speed look a good pairing physically, but I don't know how good they are at being a unit. We defend high up the pitch a lot, and Blind has got that ingrained in his mind since he came through the youth system at Ajax. I hope Smalling has gotten so used to it he can do it without him. I think if we do this, we should pair Smalling with Rojo rather than one of the youngsters. Keep them on the fullback positions.

A win will take us within 2 points of Arsenal in 3rd.

Hopefully the Watford result is the start of us actually making good on other teams bottling it around us... Rather than cocking up every decent opportunity thrown our way.

Blind got a roasting from Deeney and Ighalo and I can see it from Rondon as well. Pulis would've seen that. I'd hope Smalling is back and go with him next to Rojo with TFM at left back

Don't care how it happens, three points are essential. If we can get ourselves within 2 points of Arsenal with this threadbare squad, anything is possible if we can get some players back. Even if they're not a massive improvement on what we have, the ability to rotate could be the difference between the players (and the season) burning out.

With that in mind, we'll probably get soundly beaten while looking incapable of stringing two passes together.

This game has just become absolutely massive, really hope we have Mike back for it - win this and we are well and truly in the mix for CL and maybe even the title if we have some luck.

Lingard should come back in. Really intelligent player. Knows when to pass, dribble, stay wide, cut in, etc. We didn't seem to have that with Martial on the right the other day. He wanted to do too much, and his positioning wasn't great. Thing is, who's going to drop out? Hard decision to make by Van Gaal.

We've won 9 and drawn twice in our last 11 games there.

West Bromwich have won 3 of their last 13 games·
    This should bode well.
If we get some first teamers back (yes, those players who were drawing and losing every game, a few months ago), then perhaps a draw.
But if we keep using the youth players, a win would be statistically the most logical result.

I admire your optimism, but winning the title is going to be close to impossible.
I also saw an interesting statistic. At Old Trafford, without Smalling we have won 11 out of 11 games (or something similar). Can someone verify this?

    Why drop Herrera for Carrick?

I'd play the same team, provided they're all fit, for tomorrows game. Unless, of course, either Smalling or Carrick are fit, in which case, I'd start them instead of Fosu.

Over who? Justified by what? I'm bored of some users weird januzaj obsession.
We'recrying out for some quality on the right so I don't think its amiss to want to see Januzaj get more minutes out there. He has quality he just needs to get into the ggroove.

WBA are the typical team against whom we struggle all the time, hopefully we can win tomorrow.

Mata out wide? Hasn't really worked for us has it?
Arguably our best run under LVG ever had Mata playing out wide and drifting in. He's played more games out wide playing well for us than he has in the hole. Even in the hole he really doesn't do that much.

I don't get why people are so down on Mata.

He is our best outfield player.

Mata central, with three pacy players ahead of him is the golden ticket.

Having the likes of Rooney and VP in front, and mostly stationing him starting wide wasn'tat all a good plan.

It seems so simple that having players who stretch the play, combined with a guy excellent on the ball is a good match doesn't it!

I'm not so sure. Mata central reduces our basic threat too much because he doesn't take up advanced positions often enough.

I would prefer Martial and Rooney (or in Rooney's absence, Rashford) through the middle and Mata drifting from wide, especially since Varela is very good going forward. I don't expect West Brom particularly to attack from the left either.

When Mata is on the right though, everyone knows he's coming inside, and is zero threat to the fullback. I don't like it at all. I like wingers to have some sort of pace threat

Yeah I get that too but we don't have optimum balance.

The thing with Mata is that he gets the occasional goal or assist when in form, but when he is not he literally does jackshit. He won't be of any threat when he's not in form. With the team we are trying to build, the players we should have should ALWAYS be threatening to the opposition.

He started several games at the beginning of the season and was poor. Since then he has done nothing of note in two clubs. I'm not seeing it with him. Sure, maybe if all players ahead of him are injured, he would have to start as a last resort.

He wasnt bad at beginning of the season, clearly. Besides, who was that much better?

And the guy hasnt had a league start since August. To write him off like you have is rather unfair. By the same criteria, Memphis shouldnt have been given as many opportunities as he has.

I don't think Herrera has done much to warrant dropping (though he was bad in the first half of the last game), but I feel Carrick will give us some much needed experience in a tough fixture like this. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Herrera start, however, and Carrick being given minutes later on in the game.

Alternatively, Carrick could also play CB if Smalling is not fit.

I think Lingard will come back in for this one, giving Rashford a bit of respite.

Not sure about the back four; my prayers in all directions are going towards Mike.

It seems inevitable that we won't win this if you look at LVG's reign as a whole. I obviously hope we pull it off though.
