More than anything, I want that scouse scumbag. Nolan to be distraught about the result.

Hate the bones of that chicken, hopefully Fellaini gives him a bloody elbow.

 the last page on this

Can we get @Pentame to do that before every match? He deserves a like for that surely  He's only one away!

I shall provide! Although I'll keep everything in one post :)
That would be fun. Just field the lineup that the CAF wants and let us all enjoy these games. If, by the end of the season, the simulated team gets better results than the actual team, there will be one heck of hilarious meltdown on here.

You all know we're going back to 532 today right? No doubt about it.

Massive fecking game today. A must win.
Yup. With this and Burnley midweek we have a really good opportunity to put 6 points on the board in quick succession and take hold of 3rd.

Too true. A dismal performance and a narrow, unconvincing win.
This season I'd take a dismal performance and narrow unconvincing win away at West Ham tbf.

I fear we won't get that though if we revert back to 532.

You're using '532' to say as if its an ultra-defensive formation. It is actually '352', which LVG clearly uses. It isnt a bad formation at all. We can have 5 at the back when defending AND flood the midfield when attacking. Very useful tactic in my opinion. Problem is; we don't have the right wingbacks for it.

Taking the next corner instead of Jones!
We must win this one! We could be on the same points as City by mid-week if we don't screw up.

I must admit that I'm starting to question LvGs motivational qualities after reading the article in the Telegraph this morning, just before an extremely important match, saying that United players are playing for their futures. I'd say if the players are playing for anyone's job it'd be his … if we don't make CL football. I'd personally be motivating the players positively not negatively. Convinced he overthinks things too much.

Before anyone points it out, yes, I'm sure a lot of it is just sensationalist misquoting of answers to carefully worded questions but whereas SAF always used to deflect from the team onto himself I see LvG an an egoist who does the exact opposite!

I know it'll be on here somewhere but ~

Given West Ham's reported injury problems, we really should be taking advantage.

Results went for us yesterday, hopefully we won't feck it up.

The last time I got up early for a game was the Soton' 0-1. I think as a personal anti-jynx I will sleep in.

What an important game that is. Really hope we win it. Very tough competition for top four finish.

In bold is the reason that it's 532 and not 352. On paper and in van Gaal's mind it might be 352. On the pitch it's without doubt 532. Everytime we play it both wide midfielders (in your mind) just end up going further and further back towards our own box because they aren't really suited to the position.

The only time that system looked any good was when we had Young and Valencia on either side because they're both more inclined to push forward but as soon as one of them drop out we get the dross that's been served up over the last month and a half.

I clearly remember that Fergie warned his players to be on their toes all the time and no one is undroppable. More than a few times.

On paper it's 3-5-2 but in reality it's 5-3-2 or 5-1-2-1-1. As you have rightly said, we don't have the wing backs to play an attacking 3-5-2, therefore the team seems to default on that formation and adopt a defensive set up which results in the team lacking fluidity.

Good point. But it is still 352. In fact, our vulnerability in previous games with this formation was because the wingbacks didnt track back. Leaving only 3 at the back isolated. We would have been far more solid in defence if they didn't push forward as often, like you said, and have actual 5 in defence all the time (in a 532 formation).

Been really excited about this game specially since three rivals dropped points yesterday. We now have the opportunity if we win to be third and three points behind City.
Considering our start we could be in a very good position now.
I think we havnt really seen our team in top form yet but it feels like we getting it together and starting to work right now as a unit. i hope that we continue the play through the middle and have some crosses in like our last game. I would play
    De Gea
Mcnair After the last game i think he earned himself a second start

Smalling should start today our best defender together with Rojo IMO

    Rojo

Shaw/ if not fit then i hope Young will play there and not Rojo.

    Blind

Fellaini We are going to need him for this one.

    Blind

    Di Maria

    Rooney

    Falcao

    RVP

Januzaj,Wilson, Mata can come in from the bench if needed in the second half.

I predict us to win 3-1

I'm so excited and nervous for todays game.

I can't believe we've a realistic chance of finishing second this season!

    C'mon United!

After yesterday's results it's vital we put in a good performance (which has been long time coming) and tighten our grip on a top four spot.

What was wrong with the performances against Cambridge and Leicester?

Not at all confident about this one although it seems WH are missing quite a few defenders so that's a positive. I don't think they're a team that will be at all bothered by our slow passing in midfield. If needs be they'll just bypass it and try to get our centre halves turned.

    Both at home.
Still good performances nonetheless. Its the first time we've played with tempo and adventure, let's hope we carry that over for today.

Quite a few of our home performances have been good, I can't think of one away performance when we have played well for the full 90 minutes.

Clattenburg is the referee for this. Yep the guy who gave the inexplicable penalty away to Leicester. First time he's taken charge of one of our games since I think? Incompetent referee... away at West Ham... 3 points might be tough.

Forget winning today then. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we do.

One was against a team who are near bottom of the league and the other are a league two club. Forgive me if I'm not ecstatic over our form against two teams we should be beating. Fact is our results this season have been better than our performances.

Is it true West Ham haven't got two fit CB's? If so then we should score a few goals if our attack performs.

I have a feeling we could see a 3-5-2 game today.

It will be boring and scrappy but 2-1 to us.

4 at the back, di maria in the middle and acurate crosses on our strikers and we will win.
5 at the back, playing lads out of position and creating 2 chances all game long and we will not win.

Yeah but you can't just discount 2 performances because you feel like it. Chelsea conceded and struggled against a team who hadn't scored in 11 hours of football and city drew with Hull, at home. Its a tough league and results like that gain momentum.

So last season we complained that the players were getting it easy and Moyes was being too nice and to be honest that looked true, the players were a massive let down and obviously need that massive kick up the arse and thats what fergie done, no room for passengers and now LvG says something on the same lines and it's demotivating them ?

Bloody hell this place sometimes, never happy
