I really don't understand some of you lot's thinking suggesting to start Martial, Dalot, Mata, Donny, Elanga, Diallo etc with very little first teamers in there,

We know exactly what the outcome of starting a team like that would be, a nervy, messy sh*t show, it's also our first UCL game of the season, not a dead rubber , let's get a very strong team out there and have a stormer,

I want to see Ronnie score a few goals and a great all around performance to keep confidence and morale high and sure if were 3 or 4-0 up by 65 mins then start to bring on some of the other guys but not the other way around ffs

First off, they play in a plastic bucket. Only good for the ankles of plastics. Our okd and infirm, or delicate houseplants need to be spared this. Thus no
    Ronnie or Edinson
    Matic
    Harry or
    Bruno.

I’d love to rest PP too.

    Hendo/Dave
    AWB - Lindelof - Varane - Wilson/Telles
    Fred - Donny
    Sancho - Jesse - Martial
    Greenwood
    Who is this?

Dalot has to start. Either at RB or LB. Rest one of Maguire/Varane too. Then just freshen up the midfield and attack with players needing minutes and who didn't play internationals. Something like this for me:

    De Gea
    AWB Varane Lindelof Dalot
    Fred Donny
    Mata Lingard Martial
    Greenwood

Would like Ronaldo to start every game but we need to manage him. He loves the Champions League and he can rack up goals in the group stage but next weekend is more important.

I'd like to play a strong team to make certain of an away win, a draw or loss could be our downfall in this group.

Hopefully we can make lighter work than usual but I'm expecting us to do it the hard way.

Start a strong team, and take off players when the game is won. Fred and VdB for Matic and Pogba, and maybe Lingard for Greenwood. No other changes please.

Lindelof, Bailly, Dalot, McT, Fred, VdB, Lingard, Martial, Cavani.. None of them started the last match and any of those could make a case for getting minutes..
what case for getting minutes could Bailly make, may I ask? He is 4th CB in the pecking order, and we definitely don’t need to give rest to Varane and Maguire simultaneously.

He'll play same team with Fred in for Matic and Martial in for Sancho. No need to try to be too clever with changes - need to get 3 points and start positively.

A 4-3-3 could work well for this and give DDG Bruno Greenwood Maguire and AWB a night off. I would be looking to give Shaw and Pogba a rest on match day 2 and so on.

    Hendo
    Dalot Varane lindelof Shaw
    VDB Fred Pogba
    Sancho Ronaldo Martial

I think form/preferred players should be playing 4-5 games in a row and then getting rotated for 1 to give the squad lads a fair crack at hitting form themselves and letting the form players keep in peak condition. It’s Ole though so the line up will probably be as close to the Newcastle game as possible.

Qualify and rest players at the end of the group. Our players aren’t tired this early and there’s no real reason to rotate other than tactical changes.
Rotating now doesn’t make any sense other than being too clever for our own good. The next game is Sunday after all

Well said, some weird arrogance in the selections I’m seeing.

I have just noticed that there is a different Service provider for Chmps League in my region so it is going to be highlights for me this season at least for group stage.

Any particular reason why this game is kicking off at such a shite time?

The last thing we need is to drop points to the weakest team in the group in our opening game. Losing to Istanbul cost us last year as we were the only team to drop any points to them, it may also be the case this year with Villarreal and Atalanta being capable of beating YB twice. In theory we should top the group but it can get ugly very quickly. We need to play our strongest team and only rest players who actually need it until we’ve qualified.

Exact same team, but switch Fred for Matic.

Matic can't play 3 times in 7 days. Give Fred opportunity to shake off his poor form. Then hopefully both will be available for selection on Sunday.

We can change half the outfield players once we're comfortable.

Pretty much strongest team please (Newcastle team).

Only possible change would be Lindelof for Varane (just for game time) and Fred for Matic.

The rest should be the same. Get a couple of goals then bring on the likes of Elanga, Martial and Amad.

It's simply not worth messing around with the lineup at this stage of the season, get the result on the pitch and worry about game time for the squad later. If we are 3-0 up cruising after an hour Ole can play whoever he likes, the worst thing to do would be to lose momentum and be on the backfoot in the group.

Dalot in for AWB and Fred in for Matic would be my picks.

No messing around with the team in the CL group stages please. Seems like an eternity from when we played in the knockout stages of the CL

Would imagine it’s the negative part of getting such an easy group, no big European nights.

Is Cavani just broken or something. I thought he was fit again but now injured?

I guess it's to do with the fact it's not exactly a blockbuster, but still. I just hope it's not a regular thing. There's another game tomorrow that kicks off at the same time as well.

As for Cavani, I know he had a knock on Saturday hence why he missed the game. But Ole said he may be ready for the game tomorrow. Haven't read anything else on it. Is he definitely missing this game, too?

Totally agree. Taking it lightly is exactly the same kind of mindset which leads to spanking by the likes of Istanbul Beshakir where we were made to luck like muppets and piled pressure on Ole for the remainder of the season due to how bad that match ended up.

Get the first 4 games won with the strongest team and then look to rest if you have qualified in the last 2 games. With the fixtures we have coming up, we can't afford to be looking for results in the last few games in the group.

Would like to see Elanga at some point. He was impressive prior to the injury

Is he the manager now then?
Seeing that Ole asked if we wanted to be replaced in the previous game then yeah he is a manager.

On a more serious note, Ronaldo is all about goals and he holds the record in the CL, there’s no way he would not want to play and put a few past a weak team.
