I’m admittedly a zombie film fanatic.

Watching Dawn of the Dead (original, Director’s Cut) right now and it’s still such a bad/great movie all at once.

Any other zombie flicks that can compete?

Whatever that old one is called where the zombies are cutting about a mall and a stalking Hare Krishna infiltrates their department.

Braindead (aka Dead Alive) is fecking awesome.

"In 1957, explorer Stewart McAlden and his team smuggle a captured Sumatran rat-monkey, a hybrid creature that resulted from the rape of tree monkeys by plague-carrying rats, out of Skull Island..."

World War Z — some people love it, others hate it. Personally, I’m in the former category.

That's the original Dawn of the Dead movie from 1978 I think.

Train to busan and it’s animated prequel, seoul station are great. Day of the dead is good, gets a bit of a bad rep, but I like it. Return of the living dead 1 and 2 are good fun. Unkillable zombies are the stuff of nightmares.

I actually really like the dawn remake. That opening scene was fantastic. Same goes the 1990 remake of night of the living dead. Acting is a little meh at times, but who doesn’t love tony Todd?

Infected movies.

Demons and demons 2. Not zombies, but close enough. I loved these as a kid, scared the feck out of me. First time I saw fast “zombies”. The movies haven’t aged well, not least because they were Italian trying to be American trying to be 80s cool. Good if you can stand the cheese.

Night of creeps is more 80s fun. Tweens kick ass as little aliens infect people turning them into zombies.

Not a movie, but I just finished black summer on Netflix, and it’s preety good. It’s a prequel to z nation which I really didn’t like. But this was actually well done. Had 100 times more fun watching black summer, than th past few of the walking dead that’s for sure.

I always enjoyed the Return of the Living Dead films in the 80s/90s and especially Melinda Clarke in the third film.

Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead (both films), and Night of the Living Dead (both) were tops for me. World War Z took it to a new level.

The absolute worst was House of the Dead.

Honourable mention to Planet Terror and 28 weeks later. Never been a big fan of the old classics myself.

I watched that in my schooldays during the "video nasty" days, you could actually rent videos at that time and there were no age restrictions, that wasn't brough into effect til later. I used to rent videos - any younger readers, that was what you watched back in the day before DVDs - that were 18 certificate when I was about 13 or 14, no questions asked.
The two things I remember the most from that film was the scene with the broken door frame :houllier: and the ending when you saw the hordes of zombies walking across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Yeah, that window frame scene was pretty gruesome for a 14 year old back then.
Think I rented either cannibal holocaust or cannibal ferox at the same time. No age checks or nothing.

What's a 'dvd'? They got that on Netflix?

I'm sure I saw both of those back in the day as well, I think they were on the "video nasty" banned list at one point along with other stuff like Driller Killer and I Spit on Your Grave, although nowadays I doubt they would attract too much attention in the way of censorship.
I think the whole thing about renting from video stores and no age restrictions went on for quite a while before it was all tightened up.

Train to Busan is excellent, I didn't realise there was an animated prequel.

The acting is very close to the so bad it's good category in the 1990 Tom Savini remake. "Bunch of yo-yos! You're yo-yos! A bunch of yo-yos!" You actually end up wondering if yo-yo is an actual word in the end up. Remembering the scene has confused me into not being sure if it's yoyo or yo-yo or if it's even a thing. The main actress was a stunt woman in her first acting role I think and she was hamming it up spectacularly too. Tony Todd made it all work though.

Similar threads for vampire, werewolf and slasher films might be interesting.

It was the girlfriend, Judy Rose, that always stood out to me as truly horrible acting/writing. Tallman, the main chick, got a bit of cult following for being on Babylon 5. But yeah, not a great actress by any stretch.

If youve got amazon prime, you can watch Seoul Station there. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seoul-Stat...seoul+station&qid=1555272938&s=gateway&sr=8-1
Its pretty good as well. Supposedly done on a nothing budget, turned out pretty good considering they had no money.

 I forgot about her. I kind of always just assumed she was an actual redneck that lived nearby they gave a role to.

Cheers, I must add that to my list. I have Train to Busan on it to re-watch at some point so may as well start with the prequel.

Ows that?
Zombies are undead. People in 28 days later were infected with a virus so they basically turned into Cujo but they weren't dead. That's being the pedantic, hence the emoji. I don't really care how people categorize these things.

One that is not that well known is Pontypool. A bit of an original take on the genre.
The thing I loved most about pontypool was the imagined horror. The guy in the “helicopter” describing what he was seeing, and reacting to it. Which in turn had other reacting to it. Shows what people can do when then can spark up the imagination.
