I think Sanchez being loaned out will be playing a factor. People on here think we've got bottomless pit of money. Our wage bill is obscene and especially when you think about value for money.

Sanchez signing is the single worst transfer this club has ever done purely because he's been crap and the knock on effects it's caused.

If he hasn't signed yet, he can hold this club to absolute ransom. We lose him (and then Pogba), we've lost the 'star' power appeal unless this season turns completely differently to what we expect.

Don't imagine many players looking at United without De Gea and Pogba thinking "that's the place to be"
I don't think that's the goal. Finances important, yes, but it is pretty reasonable that he might want to see how the season under Ole progresses especially given our muted response in the transfer market. It's one thing committing to us if we just spent $300 million to improve every facet of our squad and another to do so when we're potentially at the start of a rough couple seasons that could be worse than the last.

Looking more and more like he's leaving for nothing next summer, isn't it?

He's probably holding off to see how the season is looking after a good chunk of games. I can't see it being rosy enough to convince him. To be honest, similar to Pogba, I dont care - I'm fed up of the continuous circus of will-he-won't-he. He's a top GK but for me, he isn't Schmeichel or VDS, I've never loved him the way I worshipped those two as United goalkeepers.

If he wants out, focus 100% on making the right decision in replacing him. I don't know what the answer is there. Henderson looks promising but it's a huge amount of pressure to put on a relatively unproven kid, he could be another Ben Foster, we don't know. Romero is a tidy place-holder but should be nothing more than that.

Tbf we will probably have plenty of cash from selling pogba next season
And will need to buy 2-3 midfielders from that
I’m assuming Sancho will be targeted next summer again so another 100m
Let’s say oblak at 80m too

I foresee another summer of big promises not delivered because of budget

Meh... I think oblak would cost a lot more than that... And I think both might have better options if available.

Let's see how this season goes before worrying about next (I mean Erikson might be available on a free for example so it's all very hypothetical at this stage)

I’m more concerned that our budget will be wrecked for next season trying to get someone like Oblak when we need investment in midfield
Pretty sure we'll give Henderson a chance if DDG does go. Personally, I don't think it's the end of the world if he does leave. I've always maintained that as good as he is, there are certain weaknesses in his game that he simply has not improved on over the years, namely, command of the box, dealing with crosses and coming forward to smother the ball when it's in the zone of certainty between gk and CB. His biggest strengths are his positioning and agility on the line and his brilliant reflexes, but the latter two will deteriorate as he ages. I see him having a Casillas type career where he will decline as he reaches 32-33.

Let's see how Henderson does this year. If he performs well, we may not need to spend a fortune to replace DDG.

Seems the ideal time to announce it pre-match today if it’s going to happen at all.

Strange it hadn’t been announced yet. Hope it doesn’t affect his form
His form has zero to do with his contract situation. He was very hit and miss last season. He’s not been right since the World Cup. He’s not the type of character to lose form over his contract, he’ll either run it down and leave or renew. He won’t suddenly get better as he’s signed a new contract.

Not good for us if he's waiting to see how we do. As we saw last season, his mindset could well be a factor in us having a bad start and if he's running down the contract I fear he'll get worse and cost us any chance of getting 4th. We'll keep plugging away with him thinking he'll play well but we'll see errors throughout the season. Goalkeeper is not a position you can carry a player or have someone not 100% focused.

If the signing is just being delayed or is immanent then no problem but if not signed within 5 games I just wouldn't want him playing till his contract expires.

It’s not the act of purely putting pen to paper that makes players magically perform better. It’s the fact that he’s not willing to commit himself to being here and possibly being distracted by chat from his agent about other clubs and also getting additional scrutiny from the media and fans. It brings additional pressure on him and his confidence / concentration wobbles.

Gary Neville on his Sky Sports podcast recorded after the game today said De Gea has signed a new contract.
That’s great news if it turns out Gary is right. I admire DDG’s professionalism. No drama about the transfer to Real not going through at the last second. He never points fingers or blames the club, despite being left exposed more often than he would have been at Real. All good.

Still people think only a blip? I think his best time wont come back anytime soon. This can go on for a few years until he maybe finds his form back, at the moment he quite clearly is t the same anymore

He is on a path of deterioration. I find goalkeepers never seem to ever get back to how good they were in the past once they start on this path. I would prefer we let his contract expire and hope that Dean Henderson turns out good for next season.

It's been 18 months of this. Are people still surprised? He's done.

Form has gone to pot since that Alvarez came here.
Is he our new GK coach?

I don't understand why someone like David would need a coach at this stage of his career.

I didn't really think it was a mistake, unfortunate yes, but it was so close up that it happens.
