I know the newest one is a year old now but I've only just started playing it. It's really, really interesting - first Fire Emblem game I've ever played and it's really got me hooked. I'm still learning the combat mechanisms and the strengths/weaknesses etc but so far it's really challenging but totally enjoyable. Can't believe it's taken me this long to play it!

All FE discussion, tips etc here please

I'd need a Wii U to play that last one, correct?
Not sure, I've got the latest one Awakening on the 3DS. Don't know if there's been one released since then

Wii U hasn't got a Fire Emblem yet but it's coming. Guessing there will be info on it at E3.

I've never played them but discussed them with Earthquake a fair few times. The new one on the 3DS looks brilliant.

I was interested until I discovered they are turn based. F*ck that.

I just had a character die on my on the final turn of a battle that took around 45 minutes. I really couldn't be arsed to play through it again but equally I didn't want to lose him...

He stayed dead.

Right, I've played Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance on Dolphin. I'm very fond of this type of game ever since Vandal Hearts and FF Tactics, but the plot is just egregious and infantile, and reminds me exactly why I shouldn't be playing games at my age.

You probably do, but just in case you don't know, Awakening has as Casual Mode that you can use where deaths aren't permanent and return for the next battle.

Yeah I saw that, but I chose to have them properly die because I had a feeling the game would be a but too easy otherwise. I'd probably just try to steamroll forward and either win or get destroyed and irritate myself as well as waste time. Figured having a bit of caution would be the best thing.

Yeah it's probably the best way to play it really.

I should probably get the game sometime, I enjoyed the demo quite a lot.

Anyone else into this series? Just noticed the new one for Switch is coming out in 10 days and I'm suddenly quite hyped. Anyone?

I'm interested mainly cause I haven't picked up my switch in months and this looks like it could be good, but I'm not massively into tactical RPG's and supposedly these games are very difficult, and I have little time for games where I die a lot.

This will be my first Fire Emblem game but from what I understand it has the usual perma death system but it also has a casual mode.

This one also has a turn rewind feature. So for a limited amount of times per level you can rewind back a few turns to do things differently. Also, while hard, Fire Emblem is usually not hard in an unfair way. It's just quite appealing to overextend sometimes, resulting in a unit being overwhelmed. If you're careful and plan ahead, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

Personally I just restart a level when one of my units gets killed though. I can't handle missing out :wenger:

I loved FE:TH, it's become one of my favorite games on the Switch till now, so I played FE:PoR on a Wii U and now playing Radiant Dawn, and I've got to say even though both are very good games TH is just better, and Radiant Dawn is better than PoR.

Im putting everyone on a horse the second playthrough. It's quite efficient.

Also, Ignatz sucks balls.

Great game, highly addictive. Finished a Black Eagles storyline this morning and now started with Golden Deer.

Got to reconsider tactics a bit, too used to using Edelgard as a battering ram with BE and GD don’t seem to have such an effective powerhouse, though they do seem that they could be more mobile.

Hilda and Rafael are awesome tanks for the GD, also Lorenz is an awesome dark knight, Dimitri is very strong for BL too.

Was wondering if Hilda became a good tank. Is Rafael better with gauntlets or axes? Will take your advice on Lorenz, what is Leonie worth turning into??

I used him with gauntlets, honestly I feel like gauntlets are a bit OP.

My Leonie didn't turn out great, I think I turned her into a flying unit, maybe train her with bows and also train her to be a Wyvern Lord?

Yeah I changed axes to gauntlets for Casper with BE and it was pretty game changing for him.

She is an odd one, but it makes sense to turn her into a flying unit if unsure. Most of my BE team weren’t brilliant, I just got away with it by having three strong characters while everyone else watched.

BE are okay, and they can definitely be a lot weaker depending on your decisions, which makes them the hardest route, GD possibly has the strongest roster, Lysithea is the best Mage imo and she was a constant in all my playthroughs, Marianne is a solid healer, and Lorenze as I said dark knight he can walk through mages and not get hurt while also having the ability to use magic on enemies with heavy armor and lances on other enemies, then there's the two tanks and Claude! Easily best archer in the game, they are definitely easiest route, and possibly best route to learn about the whole story. :D

Well I’m feeling pretty good about myself about beating a BE story arc then, absolutely adore using Edelgard. I can already tell that Lysithea is going to be ace and am hoping to turn Marianne into a mobile healer.

Just finished my third playthrough! I don't think I've ever fully replayed any game ever, let alone three times back to back. The storyline and characters can vary a fair amount late game and I think my latest playthrough with Golden Deer has been my favourite overall.

Which ones did you play? Or rather which one is left?

I think the one you did was the shortest route :p, pretty tough final battle though.

Damn, I'm definitely switching to Hard on my next playthrough then because the game was incredibly easy for me with BE  Edelgard, Petra, Casper are all insane melee and Bernie is a great archer. Dorothea is also a mint dancer/mage and Hubert was great as a dark bishop. Also my main was stupidly overpowered at the end, I think the biggest problem is how strong they make him/her because he always seems a level above the other characters and you can smash through entire battlefields with him.

I made Sylvain, Hilda and Bernadetta all bow knights, because feck it. It's awesome. There's no reason to not put stuff on a mount. Well except the two mage ladies who I made Gremories (is that the plural of Gremory?)

It's also more fun to hardly use Byleth since they're OP.

The game would be even better if the Japanese would dare to forego the 1 trait defines a whole personality and everyone is a completely 1 dimensional character stuff. It makes it all so very video gamey and hard to immerse yourself into.

I think the house leaders and their second in commands are pretty good but most of the other characters are very one dimensional. Still, when you have to write 30+ characters it's sort of understandable.

Yeah fair enough, and I play it for the combat anyway. The little talks just add a bit of flavor.

Hubert is brilliant though. Evil fecking prick. Very weird that in my epilogue he married Petra and had loads of children.

yeah well when you don't have Edelgard and Hubert in your BE team and you keep recruitment to a minimal you can give yourself a challenge, and that route is 21 chapter long, so a bit longer than the Edelgard route.
