Not all religious people are bad. On the other hand, most of the worst people I know, both personally and on a global scale, tend to be religious people. Finding a pretext for your tyranny and all that I suppose.
Indeed. I have a bunch of them in my family.

Full disclosure.

So don't tackle institutional racism and wanting mayhem from guns? Just let minorities arm themselves and have at it!

That's an American solution to an American problem right there.

Socio-historical influences aren't supposed to override fecking logic when said logic is slapping you in the face everyday in the form of innocent people being gunned down in mass shootings. Also going by your previous posts, he was a run of the mill middle class white guy so your minorities/poor people explanation doesn't fly here.
If people don't believe the laws will be applied equally, fairly or even at all, then they will not accept passing legislation as any sort of realistic solution. The belief among many poor and minorities is that any gun control laws will simply be applied to them while the mass shooters will simply slip through the cracks as they already do.

 Well put.
So what's your suggestion for a solution?

Or are you too busy up there on your British High Horse sniffing some Royal arse to come up with anything useful?

Also, let me know when you change your own immigration laws so people like myself might actually have the option of choosing to live in a place like the UK.

I don't think anyone thinks changing a few laws will magically change anything, but it would help prevent mass shootings which is what the majority of this thread has been about.
Which laws and how do you imagine them changing things?

How do you envision garnering support for said laws?

What are your arguments to convince the liberal and minority gun owners whose support you will need to enact such laws?

How are you ensuring the laws will be enforced once they are on the books when the laws already on the books are not fairly and evenly enforced?

What is your argument for American minority to guarantee that simply having some rich Congressman make up some legislation will actually do anything?

Do you truly, in your heart of hearts, actually care about fixing the problem or if you are being totally honest do you just like talking shit on the internet?

I'd love to have an adult conversation about potential solutions but all I see on here on this issue is moral superiority shit talking. Its useless for me in any practical way but I'm glad you feel better yourselves to make fun of "American solution to American problems" or whatever useless cliche some people want to employ to avoid critical thinking.

All the "omg when will the dumb Americans get rid of their guns" posts are not any more meaningful or useful than "thoughts and prayers".

It can't be done because the USA is now a shithole country where its politicians have been utterly bought and paid for. That's why I'm cashing out and going back to Europe.

I used to believe California secession could become a possibility by 2030 or so but 9-11 changed all that.

No need for that snarky attitude. Many people including myself have presented many different ideas but it doesn't matter what we suggest
That was meant for @Grinner who started the snark.

And I have yet to read a single practical and useful suggestion on this forum from most of the snarky attitudes towards gun threads so feel free to link anything you believe supports your assertion that "many different ideas" that are actually useful have been posted.

The thing you have to realize is that this is not a new issue and unless you have reasonable answers to those questions I listed based on knowledge, research and personal experience just posting the 129357th "woe is Americans" post gets really tiresome to read in these threads.

I know you mean well langster and you are unfairly getting my ire at the cumulative posts from many Europeans on here over the years that amount to posting exasperation at America or Americans and nothing more than tribalist shit talking. Its really not any more helpful than "thoughts and prayers. So apologies to you personally.

This right here is the biggest hurdle IMO:

Before people can believe passing laws will mean anything, they have to trust the government to pass and enforce the laws. That trust is whats been eroded and I think it has to come before any realistic push for gun control laws.

You must realise that it is not up to us to solve these issue. Moronic statements like, "well what would you do?" are embarrassing.

It's the government's job to work these kinds of things out. It's literally their job.

What we can all agree on is that doing nothing, for years and years, is not the answer.

Single practical solution.
Throw away the guns.

It's way too common here that an argument ends up with someone coming out with a gun

What's funny is that America thinks that a gun fight is a normal fight

Do you know how many times I've got my ass beat and not died?

I can't even get pissed off at Walmart without Mrs Blaggs saying stop! They might shoot you.

I can't proclaim to know what the state of the US is to perform a meaningful comparison. But unless you head for the Nordics, you're in for a bit of a shock about the state of Europe and people's opinion of their political system. Even top-bracket countries (in terms of economy, PPP etc.) are starting to struggle with strong nationalism, racism, uncompromising polarisation of the political scene and so on.

The heady days of the 90s and early 00s seem a lifetime away and we're heading for very turbulent times.

I understand.
Sad to hear it though.
I feel the same way.
But I don't think the US is a shithole.
Though we do have our problems.
Minnesota feels like a different country to what we read.
Why do you feel the same about England?

Why's that?
I just find it too depressing. It's becoming more like the USA.

I'm aware of what is going on politically. But I can ignore it and be in my bubble in a nice place like italy

Yeah, right up until Salvini makes a go of splitting the country up and maybe sticks you on a boat to Libya.

You can always cushion societal blows to yourself if you have money and a “first world” passport. But it’s still fecking depressing to watch what goes on around you.

I'll be a lot safer in Italy
