I have a PC but also a console peasant too. It just seems to me people are getting ripped off, the SSD in the pro is one example.
Who is getting ripped off? In your last post on the subject you said people wouldn't mind paying extra for the SSD, so how are people getting ripped off by not paying extra?

If what they are saying the PS5 is going to cost is being true, then yes it will be a rip off. I mean the graphics card they are planning to put in isn't even top range, it might be even more out of date when the console is eventually released.

Also I said the SSD should have been standard in the Pro, people shouldn't have to spend extra to put a basic feature like that in thier console.

"They" are people who are speculating about the price, based on what they think the specs will be. So how can it be a rip off if people say "well with these and these components it will surely have to cost $500 or more"? Perhaps we should all wait on the facts before we declare something a rip off.

And again, I countered that by saying the price per GB of SSD in November 2016 was still too high to keep the cost of the console down. A 1TB SSD cost somewhere around €250 back then, which is over half of the PS4 Pro's €399 launch price.

On one hand you're saying speculated prices for a console are a rip off, but on the other hand you're complaining components in a €399 console aren't good enough while a console with better components would surely have to cost a lot more. You're asking for stuff that doesn't make sense economically.

This why people were commenting it's better value to get a PC, which you took exception to and led to this exchange.

No I didn't, and that's a discussion I'm not interested in (at least not in this thread). I'm replying to your comments about the PS4 and PS5.

I think you all need to stop feeding the trolls
Nooooo let them carry on.

weaste vs Ciderman will never be forgotten, but this can be some sort of substitute. Even though most people who own a gaming PC probably own at least one console. So not sure why people are arguing. I could understand going in the next Xbox thread and saying get a PC considering all the exclusives will be on there. But PS5/Switch actually coexist with PC rather than oppose. I also wouldn’t recommend PS NOW just like I wouldn’t recommend Stadia. Too early for that tech and way too laggy. Stadia is worse because of the shitty library they got.

I agree with this actually, and myself I have both. But I don't see why we can't comment on things we think should be improved with the PS5 (unless you are a fan boy).

Feel free.

I personally hope they give the option of a more powerful machine if they so worried about cost.

We also have to remember Xbox X cost £425 at launch. So I expect the pricing of these machines to be more than that. So don’t go in expecting £350 like last time. Even after nearly three years the RRP of the PS4 pro is still like £300, I know you can get it for less in sales. Both these machines will cost at least £500. I also don’t think Sony are in any rush to end the PS4 as soon as the PS5 is out like they were with the PS3. PS3 was too expensive to manufacture, where as I can see the PS4 going for quite a few years.

I think PC and PS4 are perfectly complementary as well. Those two and a Switch actually. Of course we can comment on things we think should be improved, I don't want to give the impression I'm against that. Sony's biggest mistake with the PS4 Pro in my opinion was the bottlenecking CPU, they absolutely need to avoid making similar mistakes this time around.

I would like to see maybe two versions, one with the bare bones at a lesser price and a beefed up version for those who want to spend the extra money.

Do you see that happening – or do you think there will be the normal console at launch, and then a pro version down the line?

Would be curious to know percentage of PS4 owners who upgraded to the Pro?

I have no doubt the pro will be released later to extort more money from me.

Most likely what @Bojan11 said.

I made the upgrade and I know plenty of other people did too. But to be fair to Sony, 4k only really blew up much after the original Ps4 came out. But this time round there isn't an excuse really.

PS3 did OK in the end, solidified Blu-Ray and they ended up overtaking Xbox in sales. Very slow start though, don't think they had any real great games until well into a year after it's release.

Is this factoring in the sheer scale that Sony will be buying at though? And are they basing it off retail cost too?
You'd expect them to get a bit more expensive but I've got a feeling they're going to start taking the rip.

Sony lost a shit tonne of money on each console though. It was pretty badly designed overall. The Cell was complete overkill and made development a nightmare.

Completely nailed it with the PS4, though.

I have no idea to be honest, as the specs are so vague at the moment. Take the GPU for example, we only know it's a Navi-based card with hardware accelerated ray-tracing. We know nothing about clock speeds. Not to mention a Navi card with hardware ray-tracing doesn't even exist in the pc market, so there's no retail price to compare it to anyway. Same for the SSD, Sony said its a proprietary interface with bandwith that exceeds what's available on the pc market. Whether you believe that or not, and we should definitely take that with a serious pinch of salt (you can get SSD's with read speeds over 3 GB/s after all), it does leave us in the dark as to what the pc equivalent of such an SSD would be. They can't just put a standard 550 MB/s SATA SSD in there after such a statement, that would be ridiculous.

Time will tell I guess but for now we can only wildly speculate and wait for the next burst of info.

Worth getting the ps vr with three games for 100 quid?

Or wait until the inevitable ps5 version? Will they still release games for it on the ps5?

As long as you use it it be worth it, it will work for the PS5 anyway so no need to wait for any ps5 version.

The wires are a pain in the arse, so I’d be perhaps tempted to wait for the next one when they’ve managed to develop it so as not to have as many. It’s a joke.

I remember when Weaste said that Sony had enabled gaming photorealism with the ps port of Time Crisis.

Bought my tv for this when its released.
Buying my 4K tv for this next year.

Looking forward to Sony’s presser in Feb when they will probably unveil the actual console itself and confirm its price, hardware etc and most of all show it off.

It will be 4K compatible just like the Pro.

Well if I uncover a reasonably priced 8K TV on Black Friday next year then I will purchase that.

Right now unfortunately I don’t have a spare £2K-£6K to splash out on a new 8K tv unlike some...
