Matic or Garner are the best alternatives for McTominay's position. Putting Pereira or Lingard in central midfield doesn't make a lot of sense to me. What's the logic behind it? Who will play as the attacking midfield? The main doubt I have with Matic is he just returned from injury and hasn't played yet.
Matic hasn't played in a while and Garner is nowhere near ready to start PL games. Every time he has been given a chance, he seems scared of the ball and looks clumsy because of that.

Yeah I don't think either are an option at this stage.

Matic is only back training this week so won't be at his best, whatever that is these days.

Garner still looks over-awed. He needs a lot more minutes. I can't see him being ready to start a PL game any time soon.

I'm very concerned about the midfield we'll be able to put out.

I don't think Matic is a useful player against "park the bus" either. I'd want a more mobile player preferred to run into the box to meet a cross at the moment our wingers deliver a cross. Someone like McTominay!

I see Largie, Teden, D’Mani Mellor and Di’Shon Bernard trained with the first team.
Good to see the U23s getting involved

If McT is injured we don’t have any other options

I'd use Matic if we are playing a back four, as he'll offer us some added protection and allow our full-backs to do what they do. Personally I'd go with a back 5 for this one and use Fred and Pereira in front of them. McTominay is going to be a big loss to us.

I think we might actually lose this. We do not have a midfield. And this was obvious during the summer, too. One injury to Pogba and we'd be bare bones with zero creativity, now we don't even have the doggedness with Scott out.

I think 5 at the back will kill any creativity we might have while playing our usual formation will have us completely losing the midfield battle. Damn we're short on midfielders.

Really need Martial, James and Rashford to be on their game and to be clinical as well. Really hope we could turn it up but if I were a betting man, I'd be anticipating a 1-0 defeat and a spineless performance akin to the Bournemouth game.

    Please prove me wrong Ole.

I haven't seen any of Sheffield United's games but if everyone is talking about this overlapping CB business, how are they parking the bus?

Surely, if they are attacking with their CBs on the flipping wing they'd be ripe for a pacy counter through the middle?

I don't think they are parking the bus against anyone. I've seen their games against Spurs and Liverpool and they were the better side on both occasions. Their CBs do overlap but since they play 5 at the back along with a CDM (Norwood), they do have enough bodies to cover at the back. Their main threat is actually coming from their midfielders with Lundstram particularly getting on the end of many crosses and through balls played in and around the box.

I think we have done well recently and if the injured players are back, I think it will be a great watch. The inclusion of Pogba should be great for the psyche of our players and it will be an immense boost.

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Williams
    Mctominay
    Fred Pogba
    James Martial Rashford

Start this way and sub: Perreira for Fred, Matic for Mctominay and maybe Mata for one of the forwards towards the end of the game. I think we can score 3 or more goals if we kept the ball more and played quick passing effective football. Sometimes we come back strong from a break and sometimes we don't. Last time around we came back strong and the break worked in our favor. I don't know if the break this time around is going to kill the momentum. I really hope not and the players back from injuries are raring to go.

    0-3 is my prediction!

Where are you getting your information about the injured players from?

Pogba won't be back 'til early December and McTominay is a big doubt.

Exactly. A drab, horrible game in which we test the keeper 1-2 times and lose 1-0 is my guess without Scott. Maybe a draw, 1-1 with him. Can't see us winning.

I reckon to get them ready for the Astana game in Kazakhstan a week today. Can see us virtually fielding our U23’s in that game.

Matic offers us protection? Really? If anything he’s only ball watching.

He didn't look scared of the ball or clumsy when he sent Emi Buendia packing back to Argentina, and had most of the crowd at Carrow Road facing towards Ipswich recently.

He's not ready for the PL mate, it's obvious to see. Fans expect the team to be winning every game, Garner and the manager would be slaughtered if he puts in a disasterclass.

Moore & Jagielka in for Henderson & Egan (50/50) has me feeling less confident of us getting anything from this.

Ole will probably confirm Scott is out as it’ll give him an extra week recovery. He won’t be needed for Astana game. Hopefully we can have Pogba and Scott back for Villa.

Not saying he is but he's kicking the first-team door down with his performances for the 23s and when he's on England duty so what have we got to lose, more so if as expected we revert back to 3 at the back on Sunday. Garner over a rusty Matic is a no-brainer.

Injuries to key midfielders is not good. I guess 3-5-2. James in midfield anyone?

    De Gea
    Lindelof Maguire Rojo
    AWB Williams
    Pereira Fred James
    Martial Rashford

Had not thought of that set up, that is probably it. I would start Garner but I for sure understand why Ole would be reluctant too.

I had a dream we won 5 0 but Scotty scored two. Must have been related to the 20/21 season.

We're fecked without McT. Who partners Fred? Garner? Matic? Pereira? All underwhelming options.

With McTomminay out and Matic even if available for selection is nowhere near match fit. When fit he is slow enough these days, so we can't risk him from the off.

We don't even have enough centerbacks to switch to a 3 in the back where you could play Perreia/Fred in CM.

Only option I see for us tomorrow is Perreira taking McTomminay spot and Lingard or Mata coming in at the 10 spot.

Another tough game made harder because of injuries.

Can you read Jose Mourinho's mind and predict the starting XI and substitutes? - Has it said this on the sidebar all season?

So, Rojo and McTominay out. Back to a 433? If we weren't struggling to field a team at the moment, I'd not expect Matic to be jettisoned in, but needs must...

With McTominay now injured, our CM options are even more threadbare now. I wouldn’t be surprised if Garner may get thrown straight into the starting XI.

    Starting XI

    De Gea

    Wan-Bissaka
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    Young

    Garner
    Fred

    James
    Pereira
    Rashford

    Martial

    subs:
    Romero
    Tuanzebe
    Williams
    Matic
    Mata
    Lingard
    Greenwood

    Score Prediction:
    Sheffield United 1-2 Manchester United

Rojo along with Jones should be discarded soon. These guys cannot be trusted to stay fit. How the feck did he get injured now?
He slipped on the way out of that swanky restaurant in Dubai last week.

Hopefully Williams starts but i fear Young will start instead of him. McTom out means one of Lingard,Mata will replace him with Pereira moving back into the CDM role.

Yet another tricky game where Man United must score first to stand a chance to getting a result.
