Any explanation for why AWB didn't play and Greenwood wasn't brought in even as a substitute? When James went down in apparent pain, I thought Greenwood was definitely going to come in, but instead Pereira was replaced with Lingard.

In retrospect, Martial's goal was assisted by James, so - no complains about keeping him, but strange why AWB and Mason were not given a chance, despite being on the bench, and supposedly in form.
Because 48 hours between games put players in risk of injuries and it's better to be safe than sorry.

Very controlled performance, a sentence we don't get to use often. Bad night for the Caf boo boys. Matic set the tone tonight, calm and assured throughout. Amazed at some of the pre match negativity regarding Williams but thought he was superb. Fred and Perreira really excellent too. Squads are important and Ole is doing a good job of creating one where everyone can play their part.
What hasn't really been mentioned is Old actually using his squad.
He has a settled team yet isn't afraid to trust the lesser used players, like Matic, and thrust then in.

Great performance tonight. Fred and Williams did fantastic. Dean on Burnley is one to watch.

Really enjoy watching us counter. Just beautiful
When the "Ole out" discussion rages on, this is exactly what we have to remember. When Moyes, LVG and Mou were here you couldn't say that we were excellent at anything. Now we have one of the best counter attacking teams in England. Plus, the players Ole signed all improved the team massively. Of course there are still many areas where we need to improve a lot. But we're taking small steps in the right direction.

It was nice to see a win tonight. Despite all the changes. A whole day of rest more than Arsenal could prove deciding come wednesday.

Daniel James is now 4th in the Premier League in goal assists with 6 assists on the season.

I saw someone call him a garbage signing only yesterday.
don't have to that far, there were a few calling him that in the matchday thread today.

Nice win. Never really got out of second gear but didn't need too as Burnley didn't offer a lot whole. I suppose they came at us more in the second half, but that played into our hand with the late Rashford goal to well and truly kill off the game. Lovely counter that was, but we already know that's in our locker. The Martial goal was a nice pass and finish too. Shame he didn't get more as he had the chances. The ball being cleared off the line is unlucky but I'm not sure what he was doing passing to Lingard (of all people) when through on goal. That amounted to nothing in the end and he'd probably have been better off with the shot.

Well AWB was just rested. Greenwood played 48 hours ago and we were 0-1 up so I think he wanted to leave James on for the counter which worked.

I am in the Ole out corner, but seeing us actually beat these teams now makes me hopeful he has unlocked something. We beat Burnley with a sub par team for creating chances and that is exactly what top teams needs to do. Gonna give Ole an 8 this match.

The key to the victory though was an excellent game from Fred, and Matic even looked somewhat competent.

Bring on Arsenal!

Based on what exactly?
He had an okayish performance against city and then he goes on to start the next two games and do nothing. Keeps getting mintues every other game which could be given to any other useful player (even gomes?)

Nothing against ole but it's difficult to understand why Lingard keeps getting game time

Is he? United tried to sign a world class number 10, he’s also tried Pereira and Pogba there. I don’t really understand what you want Ole to do. Sign an inferior player just for the sake of it and pay for it 2-3 years down the line? Or wait for someone like Maddison or whoever they go for in 6-12-18 months time that can play there for the next 5-10 years.

He can only play the players he has. Patience.
I don't think there is any inferior number 10 than Lingard in world football :wenger:

Feck Mike Dean, deserves to meet someone in a dark alley.

Credit to our boys who kept their cool and were not knocked off their step by that pompous twat.

My God, the media hate us with such venom, feels good

Very composed and professional performance. Williams is a different gravy, he really is. Mike Dean would rather book him for diving than give a red to Bardsley the shit stain of a ref. Hope the bastard stands on an upturned plug tonight.

That cnut Taylor tried to do Danchelskis no doubt about that.

Fantastic win.

What makes it even more pleasing is the fact we got to rotate. AWB and Shaw both got a rest, Matic is given some valuable minutes now when we are short in midfield, Greenwood is effectively rested and Pereira surprisingly performed well before his sub. Pogba got to rest aswell.

James was rested versus Newcastle and both Martial and Rashford was subbed early in that game aswell. Fantastic management from Ole to be fair.

Good performance, especially considering we were playing against a very dirty team and a shit ref.

Only player who was below par was Lingard.

Even Young, Matic and Pereira were surprisingly decent.

Yeah. A number 10 that does neither score nor assist for a goal in an entire year - doesn't get much worse

If we randomly picked a starting playmaker from any even non-top-6 EPL team they would very likely be better than Lingard.

Well done all the way around. Burnley never looked a threat to score and players thought useless not long ago, such as Fred, looked very solid.

Williams is an outstanding young talent, James was a great buy and even Fred is now on the cusp of being undroppable. Their contributions today were substantial.

Statistics probably won't show it, but James must the most hacked down player in the league this season. Some of the fouls on him have been brutal and yet he still doesn't flinch when he has run full pelt in possession.
Great performance from most of the lads in the face of some atrocious tackling.

I was wondering that too as it seemed to make sense. However, I also think Ole wanted to give AWB and Greenwood the night off thinking ahead to Wednesday and beyond. It was a risk but Ole pulled it off.

The most professional performance of the season. Playing against an ultra aggressive team - allowed to foul at will by a terrible refereeing performance - I thought the players managed the game really well.

Fred really looked brilliant. And Brandon Williams, surely our first choice left back.

Delighted with the clean sheet too. Well done!

Despise teams like Burnley who foul continually, then go crying for a free kick when they don't win the lumped balls.

Impressive team performance. I thought all the starting 11 performed well.

- De Gea punched a corner, did one sweeper keeper clearance and a decent save from Bardsley's shot.
- Lindelof and Maguire coped reasonably well with Burnley's aerial bombardment
- Williams driving forwards with the ball whenever he had the opportunity
- Matic composed in possession
- Pereira's hardwork and super through pass created Martial's opening goal. 3 other key passes.
- Martial getting plenty of good chances to score, one shot cleared off the line, another required a decent save from the keeper's foot, failed to shoot when through on goal one time.
- Dan James with a late assist after surviving some brutal challenges

Warms my heart to see Williams kid getting MOTM votes:

He did a great job. Really looking forward to seeing him play more. Obviously he lacks experience and will make mistakes, maybe even ones that cost us goals (like AWB did with Watford), but would rather watch young stars fumble a ball, than that dinosaur Ashley Young ;)

Good win.
Williams is very good, love his attitude.
Perreira was good.
Fred very good.
Cool finish from Tony but with his ability he should be scoring more.
James was brave and good.
Feck Burnley. The only positive about them was that they hated Blackburn!
Feck Mike Dean, a shithouse.
Drop Lingard.
1 off fourth.
