The thing that shocked me about Firminho, was on SSN the other day it said he had the third most shots on target (91) this season... Shocking return. I think he's a very good player that is used more to drop back and play in Mane and Salah, so was shocked he so many shots, yet so little goals

People need to watch us without Firmino in the team. We’re a better side when he’s playing.

Tbf though his alternative is Origi who is trash.

It's a goal about every 11 shots or so. Shocking returns. Makes you wonder how much more Liverpool would be winning if he could convert.

Why didn't you guys go in for Werner when he so clearly wanted to play for Pool?

Then why are we a better team when he’s playing than we are when he isn’t?
All that means is he’s better than the rubbish you have to replace him. He’s an average player. You’d have been no worse off keeping Ings.

The truth will hurt klopp lovers but their playing style this season has been dire. Of course the history will say they were an exciting side but this season they are far from exciting. Efficient yes but exciting no. Reminds me a lot of chelsea under jose during his first stint but with less command in defense.
They won the league with an insane win percentage so I doubt they really care.

So Liverpool got Chelsea last home game of the season and will be given the title after the game right?
Also they're undefeated at Anfield in 2 years and could get 100 points at that game?

Good position for United

The amount of long balls from the Liverpool defense to the forwards should be so high. LVG plays that shit and he will be termed as Sam 2.0

Firmino's advantage is he fits in well with their main 2 scorers Salah and Mane. He's not selfish and doesn't really seek to score himself, leaving better space for both to operate. Of course he's not their most important player, Salah is, followed by Mane, but Firmino works well in their system and that's all Liverpool fans care about. They don't need a better striker because they have 2 great goal scorers already.

Ings is an out and our goal scorer and his instincts are to run towards goal. His link up play is fine but he wouldn’t be able to play the same role Firmino does.

Firmino’s goal scoring has been poor this season but if you take him out for an extended period you’d see Mane & Salah struggle more.

What's with the guard of honour? Apparently it's going to be for every game between now and the end of season. That's unprecedented. Why should Liverpool get special treatment that others haven't received? It's absolute fecking cringe.

Aside from scoring goals, he’s still too often rubbish. However, so bad is his goalscoring, that he is attracting praise for the more intangibles too. Salah and Mané are better than him at all the other stuff he’s supposedly contributing too, seemingly because people think ‘well he must be doing something, perhaps I’ve missed it’. Too often do I see the Liverpool attack just developing around him. Not long ago there was some nonsense going around that Liverpool would be better off losing Salah than him. Where is this crap coming from? He’s ineffective in most games, scoring or otherwise.

He's the "creative midfielder" player (positioned as a center forward) that people think Liverpool need, even if having a central midfielder who is more creative but less of a selfless player and with less energy and less understanding of his function for the team would make the Liverpool team less effective. Their central midfielders all have a very good profile that supplement each other, but none of them have to be this creative KDB or Pogba player. I'm sure anyone could use KDB, but he's not necessary for Liverpool. How they play or the roles players play isn't for everyone and it's unorthodox, but shouldn't take away from the fact that it's really effective and has proven to be successful in terms of major trophies.

Every team receives this once they have won the league. We've given it to Chelsea at Anfield before and it was done long before the Premier League came in. I remember seeing Liverpool taking to the pitch through a guard of honour in the 80s after we'd won a league title. It's highlighted a lot more this season as no one has won it this early before so more teams give us said guard of honour.

How many teams gave City one in 2018?

This. We had Coutinho who was a great player for us but it's no coincidence that we started winning trophies the season after he'd left. We used to look for him to create something out of nothing and our system would suffer. Now, our midfielders shield the back four and break up any opposition attacks whilst they are also able to drive forward with the ball but usually leave it to our full backs and 3 strikers to create the chances.

Teams always get guards of honour for games after they've become Champion, certainly from what I remember anyway.

Yes, I'm certain that I saw them happen. This isn't a new thing and anyone that wins the league will get one.
I remember us getting them in the past but can only remember it being the game after winning the title (not every game between winning the title and the end of the season) but I guess if City got them in every game in 2018 then obviously not unusual for Liverpool to get the same this year

I'm sure Utd got them for every game after winning the title. Again (and this isn't a dig) the title is very rarely won with more than 2 or 3 games to go so the guard of honour only takes place a couple of times. When there's still 7 games left, it looks like special treatment but really, it's just an extension of what's normal

The winning started happening because you relplaced Karius/Mingolet with Allison and Lovren with Van Djik. That's a huge jump in quality in defensive positions.

That helped too but the rate that we started winning games at, increased massively. Any side that employed a low block against us knew that all we'd do was look for Coutinho and hope he could produce a bit of magic. Our movement and all round attacking play has improved greatly in the 2.5 years since he left.

We've won it in March mate.
I edited the question as I knew there'd be someone that said 'we won it in March' when it's clear I was talking about amount of games left. Everyone has won it earlier in terms of the month as no one has ever won it in June before.
So, who else has won the league with 7 or more games still to play?

Yeah I know, it was a joke.

We've won the league before with 4 or 5 games remaining and I can't remember getting a guard of honour in all of those games, not saying we definitely didn't I just can't remember.

It's not really a big deal to me anyway though.

Me neither. I was just responding to a question that was asked earlier in the thread and then responding to another comment as well.
Apologies if my response came across as a bit curt, it's been a long morning already. I have a 3 and 6 year old who thought getting up at 5am for no apparent reason was the way to go :(

Does anyone know the guard of honour thing for sure yet? I do think to do it every game is new to Liverpool. I'm sure it used to only be in the first game since becoming champions. Then again, I might be misremembering that.

I'm sure the press give them one before each game as well.

It’s a good question. It’s possibly more prominent because every game is televised. There’s also the fact it’s seven games rather than being done with one game to go. City in 2018 won it with a few to spare, I don’t know what happened with them.

It’s cringe anyway and fake sportsmanship. De Bruyne couldn’t get outta there fast enough last week. They don’t want it, their fans don’t want it, and we just laugh our tits off because of it.

Would be best to bin that tradition altogether.
