Offsides not offsides don't matter really (fine margins); sometimes these decisions work in your favor and you can rue them on a bad day.
Just hope we look back on this day as the turning point for our season.

I think Chelsea is in the mix with us and Spurs also fighting for 3rd and 4th. Arsenal could also get in there but I doubt it.
Arsenal are born chokers. So are Spurs but Conte’s a difference maker. I think Chelsea will just have too much to be dragged into this.

Have to admit, my sentimental old heart loves seeing Fletcher just being there. It brings back good feeling. #matesfc #goodfeelingfc

Desire to win. Great work from the lads. Loved the increase in control. Need to work on shooting next.
Hate to say this, and it wasn't the case when he first arrived, but last 3 games - Ronaldo is ready to retire. Absolute, complete passenger, and stubbornly refusing to admit it, throwing a fit when he's replaced by the end of the game.

Love the guy, the legend, his past achievements, but he is becoming a problem for us now.

It is not easy to fix a club that was badly coached for the past three years ago, the fundamentals of modern football style have not being in Carrington since Van Gaal left, he is trying to fix it in.

He first fixed the defense, he is working on the midfield and getting us to control games, things are gradually sticking up together, let the board back him up with one CM this transfer window.

Can't beat a last second winner.

The most controlled we have been in a very long time. Fair play to Ralf for changing it up and putting more attackers on and changing the formation, would have been so easy to go like for like. It wasnt the best attacking performance but I'm not complaining and delighted with the clean sheet.

Maguire looked very assured at the back

Lost my voice when Rashford scored. I think everyone in the ground did, even my wife and she doesn’t even support Man Utd or even pay attention to football in general :D

Absolute scenes and moments like that you simply cannot beat!

First time since Ronaldo's second debut that I wanna watch MOTD.

The late winner was the icing on the cake but I wouldn't have been in a foul mood like I have been (even when we've won games this season) even if we'd drawn because we did control nearly all that game and though we didn't create as much as would've liked, we finally resembled a Rangnick team with our pressing and possession for a full 90 minutes. Definitely the most complete display under him as we've only seen this sort of thing in half an hour bursts before.

The offside line shouldn't be parallel to that left field line. Looks like Cavani's head is ahead of WH's boot (yes you can score with your head).
Camera angle, I doubt the camera is gun straight to the play so your looking at it at an angle and even a slight angle will skew how things look with the naked eye. Thats why they draw those vertical lines to try and sort of straighten everything up.

With tight calls like this I don't think anyone can be 100% sure even with the technology there is a margin of error. But right now I don't care it was given and we won.

That late winner made me feel quite good.

Actually, who am I kidding, I was jumping up and down like a crazed gibbon.

What the actual feck? What's he supposed to do: come on and play badly? Because if he did, you'd be the first to call him unprofessional.
It's his 7th season here, what do you want me to do praise him? He's been crap for a long time like a lot of our players and that's not that down to ability, it's not down to his laziness and attitude. I can criticise players like him, Shaw, Pogba, Rashford as its over multiple seasons. I wouldn't criticise Sancho as its his first season and settling in, not his 7th season.

If anything the green line starts too far ahead. Seems to begin ahead of Cavani's head. Not close to being offside
Begins at his shoulder/sleeve... furthest part of the body with which he can score.

Solid defensive performance, we didn't create much but we seemed in control throughout. Wonderful last minute goal as the cherry on top. I'm happy.

That euphoric feeling when I realised Marcus scored and was onside can’t be topped by most other things in this world. Absolutely delighted for him, Maguire and Martial for their great contribution today. These players have been rightly criticised, so they ought to be praised when they play well as well. United over petty agenda’s.

Also, we called for the control that Ralf promised, and we got it. We had all the ball and all the shots, and a certified top 7 team who outplayed Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs this season didn’t threaten us whatsoever, which is extremely pleasing. The defence were very solid, and McFred were as reliable as they have been since Ralf took over. I do think one of them should be replaced with a more reliable ball player though, as their iffy passing negates their unquestionable endeavour sometimes.

However, we also didn’t create enough chances. I’ll just put that down to Bruno having an off day. If he plays like how he did against Villa and Brentford, coupled with the control we had today as a team, we’ll be a difficult team to stop. Ronaldo is starting to become a problem though. Never thought I’d say this, especially considering the thread I started back in October calling out the media’s agenda against him.
We dominated more because Bruno was a lot deeper today. Usually he plays 2nd striker but today he was actually in midfield and it made a huge difference there.

The problem is that it highlighted how poor our forwards are, they were unable to produce anything. Massive lack of technical ability to play in tight areas and pass in those situations.

I think sancho suits today's situation more, but who knows.

You do realise it makes absolutely no sense to compare the position of a head and a foot from that angle, don't you?

Edit: in rough terms, draw a vertical line from his forehead to his own foot level to make them comparable.

It's a bit late for that. Chelsea are already in the top 4 battle and are losing ground on literally every other team in it. If they don't win tomorrow they're relying on other teams not winning their games in hand just to stay in the top 4

Generally agree with this, although Bruno played in midfield against Villa and Brentford too, where he was outstanding. Feel like he just wasn’t there today, perhaps the captaincy buoyed him.

Would have liked to see Sancho today though, yes. Martial too. Both of them dribble with the ball glued to their feet.

Too much trying to force the issue in the final third and some weird (rubbish) positional play. Constantly looked like Ronaldo was the only one within about 50 yards of their goal and even he kept fecking about in midfield when we already had the ball. Our passing also went to shite for the last 20 minutes of the first half.

The defensive and off the ball side of it though looked a hundred times better. Definitely something to (hopefully) build on as that actually had the platform of a very good performance, unlike basically every other game this season.

Does help when you can get away with an off day up front and periods of not keeping the ball well, because you don't fall apart as soon as the opposition have the ball

One thing that was noticable from the TV coverage (though I don't know if it was something to do with the TV coverage's production) was that OT sounded like it was bouncing for the full 90, more so than most home games this season. Barely heard the West Ham fans other than one 'blowing bubbles' chant late on. Normally home games sound a bit tepid.

Probably like many of you I didn't celebrate at first because I was sure Cavani was off. Goal with seconds to go and I had a delayed celebration. Oh well.

I thought Bruno was better and we were better when he dropped back when Cavani came on. Maybe we should start with Bruno and McT/Fred and we would play better. I know I was much more confident when Bruno got the ball in tight spaces than when McT or Fred got the ball. Having said that, though, Bruno did not play well overall and he seems to be getting sloppy with poor decisions and poor executions. It's bad when it's both.

- McT was very frustrating especially the last 20 minutes
- Maguire had a good game. I like when he plays because I know he'll win almost every header in his area and that's gives a lot of comfort.
- Dalot also played well
- Ronaldo so often looks a step too slow.

Clean sheet and 4th!

Seems a long time ago we were scoring 5,6 and 9 in a game. Don't seem to have any instinct left. Still some positives but slow going. Great three points

I loved the happiness on the players faces after the 90 minutes. Gave me hope that this is a game, they can built on. Fantastic to see Maguire today - he was really good.

Real subtle dominance. Defended in the middle of the park as opposed to allowing West Ham to settle in midfield...completely nullified their counter attacking threat. With a firing front line that would have been a very impressive performance but even still it’s a definite improvement...after the first 5 minutes I thought West Ham were gonna hog possession. Well done Ralf.

There was one case where McT did a horrible pass (badly weighted and right into the middle of the pitch to a West Ham forward). Gave them a good chance to score. (iirc, he retrieved the ball to make up for the mistake) But generally, I don't know that they're that bad. Just that no one would show for them to pass to (your static comment).
The forwards need to pass amongst themselves.
I just watched the recent cup match that Real played against Elche… those three midfielders are so smart. It’s a combination of quick passing and movement. I love McT as a squad player. He has a lot of positive attributes. But when you look at the difference between McFred vs the Liverpool, Chelsea, City, even Wolves midfield, the gulf in quality is pretty apparent. Sure, the forwards need to do a better job in their movement, but many of our issues start with the quality of our midfield two.

I agree about Arsenal and Conte worries me. I actually think United have a better chance of catching Chelsea than Tottenham. I guess we'll know better after their game.

Agree, a CM would be great this Jan , let's hope need to ship out first.
