I don’t think any one likes/respects the referee in football - anywhere in the world. It’s just that PL reds have a kind of weird celebrity status. Most are household names.

Yes, all refs in all countries. The rules are the problem, not the people that have the utterly impossible task of trying to enforce them while the 22 play acters on the pitch are trying to fool them.

Good case point for this thread. Collina was seen as a ref god on these shores due to his image and performing well in big international matches but don't think he was as highly rated by those who watched Serie A week in week out. Or by Everton fans.

Will be same perception in every league, people just don't watch these leagues enough to know the good and bad refs. Some of the calls in CL and europa are terrible so that says enough.
