Carragher has anger issues. While i suppose he should be used to people chanting moronic things at him, he really should control himself better.

There must be nothing more annoying than having a phone shoved in your face constantly. And so many idiots these days act like twats knowing no matter what you've done, if you catch a reaction on video an post it, the focus will be all on that.

I don't know the context here and Carragher should definitely control himself better, but it must be so hard to be a high profile person right now.

I don’t know how Sky still kept him on the payroll after he spat at a child.

As an aside, I don't know if you've heard Jonathan Pearce's commentary on that incident, but it's...well, it's quite something.
Oh yeah  "I care not one jot about his talent, he should be thrown out of the sport"

I'm all for shiting on liverpool players, but I see nothing wrong with reacting to shitty behaviour.

Watching the TV or is it watching me
Guy shouts some shitty comment and then wants a photo etc yeah that's not the one.

As much as I hate him and the spitting thing was reprehensible, this wasn't the same as that at all, we forget these people are humans not robots

Why does he allow himself to get wound up by fans? He has previous for this. Jamie you are a millionaire ex footballer with a great job and life who cares what a random fan says. This in my experience is a scouse trait unfortunately. Being able to give it but can’t take any back. From my time in the armed forces it was usually the scousers who couldn’t take a joke on their behalf.

He needs to take Anger Management therapy. That being said, as a Liverpool legend, it’s fun to see him squirm his way out of this one. Unlike Sourness and Gerrard who come across as total contemptible knobs, atleast Carragher or the on-screen version of him has some likeable traits.

HELLO
In his job you have to have better self-restraint. At the same time I’ve no sympathy for the people on the other end and have nothing against Carragher for his actions. I particularly hate the ‘film yourself acting a cnut so I can share it to WhatsApp’ element of society

I think thats the main thing here for people who make a big deal out of it. If it was Roy Keane doing it they would praise it and say 'yeah Roy doesnt let some kids feck with him! well done Keano!' But since he is a former Liverpool player its a great excuse to shit on Carragher.

Nothing wrong with what he did. He is a public person but that doesnt give anyone an excuse to put a phone in his face and shout abuse at him.

No one on the street would just take that and not smack the living daylights out of them…

Sooner we reach a point where sticking your phone in somebody's face is considered taboo, the better

Most surprising thing about this for me was finding out Carragher is still only 44.

Have absolutely no problem with these high profile faces giving a bit back to arsehole fans.

I dont either, but surely stealing someone's phone for a chant is too far? You know if he replied with some banter then that'd be proportionate? I dunno.

Dont think getting your feeling hurt at a game allows you to go around snatching phones

Depends on the chant in my opinion. There's plenty of horrible shit spouted that is deserving of some idiot getting their phone yeeted into oblivion.
Yeah thats fair I suppose.

Poor Carragher could only resort to snatching phones because of his profession and in fear of losing his job.

If the guy had verbally abused anyone else he'd have got decked. The prat.

For someone who constantly engages in banter he sure has thin skin. Credit to the steward who wrestled the phone back and saved him from a potential theft charge.

By all rights attempted theft of a phone should see Carragher getting his head kicked in if we’re talking about appropriate responses if we’re following the logic in here.

Devil’s advocate here but people love to take a moral high ground at every opportunity. I see nothing wrong when you are being called “you scouse bastard” to your face. It’s as if no matter what, you should lie down to any abuse and provocation and take it just because you are a former player and a media personality.

Couldn't care less. Did nothing wrong imo, he grabs the phone & gives it back after having a word with a guy abusing him 2 ft from his face. This is nothing like when Ronaldo slapped that kids phone from his hands & broke the phone, or when Carragher himself spat at the guy abusing him & it landed on the guys daughter.

On the internet I'd have reacted very calmly and expressed my disappointed in the fan for saying that, explaining how improper it is to insult somebody without provocation.

In reality I'd probably have told him to go feck himself (which admittedly isn't always a smart thing to say)

Nobody saying he has to take it, some people are saying both are in the wrong and the escalation isn’t in line with simply being called a scouse bastard.

edit it isn’t even clear if that fan even yelled that out!

I keep seeing this, "to his face"... he was just talking past, wasn't he? Some of you make it sound like they stepped in front of him and stopped him. He was the one who stopped and turned back to have a go at the fan.
