This is going to get nasty
I doubt that. We've been hearing "big escalation" and "shit is about to get real" a 1000 times in the months since October 7th. What we see in practice though is that all the involved parties are more cautious than we think. But they do have their own interests so they'll be pushing boundaries and checking how far they can go with the West.

Iran's top guy got droned back in 2020 and that didn't lead to war. My guess is the Biden administration will have a token retaliation, probably killing a couple of militants. But that in itself is nothing significant.

I doubt the US will just let this slide tbh

And do what?
The possibilities are endless. One option would be to go after Iranian targets inside Iran in a similar fashion to what they did to Houthi targets inside Yemen. He will have to weigh the cost/benefit of doing that against his desire to not allow the conflict to spread to other countries.

They'll do something of course. Like he said probably bomb some Iran backed militants or something.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they take some more direct action against Iran.

Biden will also be thinking elections and Trump.

He will have to at some point. The likeliest scenario is there will be another Iranian attack or two in the near term and Trump will start mocking Biden for being weak and feckless, which will finally culminate in Biden taking strong action. It is an election year after all.

Ahh yes, US elections soon, so nothing like indulging in the US favourite pastime of bombing a few 'shithole' countries to really get one over your rivals.

I disagree. That won't accomplish anything for the US and I'm sure the Israeli's will put a stop to any talk of that.

I don’t think Israel has much of a say on things tbh.
Well the thing is the US won't feel the repercussions of attacking directly, that will be felt by Israel and considering the only reason the US is in the middle East (other than Oil) is to protect Israel, that would be against the point.

Netanyahu is a well known, massive proponent of attacking Iran, so there’s high chance the Israeli government would be elated if Biden hit them.

Right now, under current circumstances ? Israel already have enough to deal with and they want to add Iran. Of course they see Iran as a threat that needs to be neutralised eventually, I don't think they would want to deal with that right now.

I disagree with that completely. In fact, the young Shia Iraqis blame the US/Saddam more than Iran for their misfortune. Just wondering where you've heard this from ?
It is extremely complicated. Iraqi shia youth have a very nationalistic view to the country and try to distant themselves from the sectarian and ethnic labels, but the rise of ISIS in 2014 broke many shia youth that were leaning to secularism. The past few years it started to go in that direction again but it will always be under the mercy of regional events and todays events are not helping at all. Israel and its western allies pushes those in the middle away from secularism.

You are mistaking Netanyahu for some rational leader thinking of protecting Israel… He wants this to escalate and he wants to drag the US further into it. A prolonged conflict is his best chance at keeping power for as
long as possible… There is no doubt about that.

And this is precisely why the US needs to feck off out of Iraq pronto. It only plays into Iran's hands, especially if the Americans start hitting Iraqi sites.

I have full faith that Iran's own stranglehold over the country will be severed as their youth become increasingly secular and realising a lot of the corruption and cronyism in Iraqi bureaucracy is largely driven by Iranian puppets, but the Yanks sticking around, acting as a targets for Iranian proxies, all the while helping a genocide a few borders away only empowers the Iranian position.

pressure will mount on Biden I suspect
I mean they wouldn't be attacking their troops if they weren't helping to facilitate a genocide, or flooding the entire region with military bases, much to the resentment of the local population.

Also she cheated on her military spouse.

Biden unfortunately will take the bait.

Here is what the old Navy senior chief petty officer had to say about this.

The Behshad is suspected of playing a role in the Houthis’ capture of Galaxy Leader in the Red Sea. Disrupting Iran's primary capabilities matters as much if not more than getting rid of the Houthis.

It would be preferable to actually sending TLAMs directly into Iran.

Once again I find it fascinating how so few people will blame Iran for anything, particularly on the left.

It's Biden's fault for being weak. Oh but look at those war-mongering conservatives! They're so cringe.

Iran just gets to keep f*cking around with the world order, its agency is ignored or even accepted, and it's the fault of the western nations in how they react. The kid-glove treatment is staggering. The same vociferous voices that blame any US action in any foreign border is oddly silent when Iran do it, constantly.

Look at what Iran could achieve this year, and cost it virutally no citizens and no consequences: by instigating October 7th and (easily) predicting the Israeli response, it has entirely destablised that region, driven a wedge into world politics and created a swell of anti-Biden force that could see Trump get into power, thus ending US foreign-policy for at-best 4 years. By shutting down crucial shipping lanes, it has increased world inflation and impacted world economies to the tunes of billions and billions.

And what to consequence? Nothing.

We have no reports suggesting that Iran instigated October 7th. To the contrary, intel suggested they weren't informed.

This is a minor point in the scheme of things, but a US politician as hawkish as Nikki Haley calling any group "barbaric" for doing a drone strike might be the very peak of irony.

Where did you get that from? All intelligence suggested the October 7 militants were trained by Iran and Iranian military were involved in planning it.

Western intelligence said Hamas fighters were trained in Iran beforehand and top Iranian military figures were involved in planning the attack.

Probably some of the Iranian government didn't know but overall they were very much involved in it, as they have been in most of what happens in the Middle East over the last few decades.

Noone truly knows how autonomously Iran’s proxies operate and there’s not enough credible information to prove Iran’s direct involvement in the planning of the 7/10 attack (nor to disprove it). Most experts seem to believe the proxies have a lot of autonomy and don’t take direct orders from Iran. Regardless of the extent of their involvement, Iran still bear a lot of responsibility for the attack and the subsequent side conflicts.

I for one am outraged that hostile forces attacked a military base in a hostile foreign country and lives were lost. Our soldiers should be free to shoot and not be shot at. Absolutely outrageous.

Netanyahu has every interest in expanding the war and dragging the US in, one way or another. His (political) survival depends on the war not stopping. At least until 2025.

You're 100% right. Unfortunately the extreme Western leftists are the greatest allies of despot dictatorships around the world. I saw a tik-tok post created by a Leftist "Socialist" doing round on X yesterday, in which he couldn't stop licking the balls of Islamic Regime in Iran, and even called Khomeini a freaking "freedom fighter hero"...And that had gotten 1 million views on Tiktok. It made me so angry, I'll get banned if I share what I wanted to do with that utter c**** who made this video. Those assholes probably still think Suleimani was some sort of a hero. They'll frame Bin Ladan, Al-Baghdadi and Ilk as heroes just because of some weird Anti-Imperialist and anti-capitalism fetish. A walking man farts on the street and to them it's the fault of Western imperialism and capitalism. It's rather tiresome at this point.

4 more political prisoners were executed by Islamic Republic in Iran today. They are at war with their own citizens, as well as trying to ignite war and unstabiltiy in the entire region. Judging by comments and social media mood in Iranian X and Instagram at the news of the 3 American soldiers killed by Islamic Republic, it appears that hitting Quds and IRGC targets in Iran's soil will be welcome and met with lots of happiness by the average Iranian person and may ignite the final push for people to get hope and overthrow this regime that is truly on the brink (hence they are massively upping executions in order to create a mood of fear and intimidation to silent all dissent).

This was the protest in Ahvaz over the weekend, with the protestors chanting: "We haven't seen any justice, we will never again vote." as the Islamic Republic' sham parliamentary "elections" are scheduled for next week I believe. Funniest part is that the ex-president (reforming puppet Rouhani) was disqualified from running by the Guardian Council. This is now the list of former Islamic Republic presidents and prime ministers who've now been completely banished and outcasted by the system they once represented.
- Rafsanjani (banned from running in 2013 elections and mysteriously died in 2017)
- Mousavi & Karoubi (in house arrest since 2009 after the Green movement protests)
- Ahmadinejad (barred from running in 2017 and banned from appearing in TV or making any public appearances)
- Rouhani (disqualified from running for elections)

If the Islamic Republic system is so ruthless to some of its most loyal people that once represented it, you can just imagine how scarily ruthless it is to dissidents, real opposition and anyone against the whole regime. Yet we have Western leftists simping for this c*nt of a regime, just because mwah AMERICA, CAPITALISM, IMPERIALISM.

Responding in the very same tone you used, why the feck doesn't America feck off from there and leave them be? Because I think that would solve a lot of problems. Or, for current situation, stop Israel in carrying out genocide against Palestinians. No, USA wants Israel to proceed with genocide and ethnic cleansing, but wants them to merely sit and watch doing nothing, them also knowing they could be next in line.
