What took him so long?
If you pack your bags right now it's not too late to salvage the season! In fact, don't even pack. Have your servants ship you the milk, organ meats and ice bath.

Brutal since his return. We rely so much on his goals but when he's bad he's awful.

Impressive how much of a nonentity he is outside the box. You actually are better off not passing to him if it’s not going to lead to a shot

He just won them the game last weekend.

He’s what he is, the best pure goalscorer in the game currently, but also capable of shocking performance in tight, competitive games.
A regular ghost in big games, carried by his teammates mostly. Not a good fit for Guardiola's system.

Haaland in semi finals & finals for City last season
• 7 games
• 0 goals
• 0 assists
• 7 big chances missed

City in those 7 semi finals & finals
12 goals

quite limited when he doesn't score where his ratings are around 6-6.5/10.

He'll probably score a hattrick next week. But City fans must feel he can be lacklustre in their bigger games.

Your idol ghosted again today missing sitters, useless as usual when he doesn't score which tends to happen in most big games.
Rooney didn't play today

You need to update your bot by the way, last season your definition of big games extended only to "semi-finals and finals of cup games"

if he continues his current goals per game for this season, and plays the same number as last season, he'll still end up on around 40 goals in all competitions. he's obviously a formidable goalscorer, which is no small thing, but not much else. Either he scores or offers little.

Semi-final against Sheffield United... Mahrez left that game a legend
you forgot to mention CL semis against Real Madrid and the CL final against Inter.

There's a pattern right there, Haaland ghosting in those big games regardless of whether it's Real or Sheffield or a Super Cup final against Sevilla or FA Cup final against United, the guy just can't stop ghosting.

He joined last year and Citys form against the top sides away from home in the EPL fell off a cliff, this season that has seeped into big games at the Etihad as well.

Harsh to type cast him just because he got his big break in Ghostbusters 2.

He's missed countless sitters this season, hasn't he? Certainly feels that way.

People used to say that about CR7, flat-track bully, can't do it in the big games, until he did. Haaland is young, he has time to shed this reputation. It's earned for now, but with City being the absolute best team in Europe (IMO), he will have more chances at the big stage to change the narrative.

The greatest strikers perform well even when they don't score, they have world class hold-up play, link-up play skills, they drop deep to create spaces, some have great dribbling, passing skills etc. Haaland is absent in those areas and I don't think a player can develop these at a world class level when they are severely lacking them in the first place. It's obvious that he will continue scoring many goals, some in big games with City, but still doesn't come close to players like R9, Van Basten etc. who doesn't need to score to influence the game. A poor man's Gerd Muller at this point.

As for Ronaldo, it was obvious from the start that the guy had huge raw talent in multiple areas, not the case for Haaland. Ronaldo just needed to learn from SAF how to effectively use and improve these raw skills.

Always the case with the best strikers because they generate so many chances.

Last season the players with the most 'big chances missed' were (in order) Haaland, Rashford, Watkins, Salah, Nunez, Wilson and Toney. All except Nunez were in the top 10 scorers.

I tend to agree that Haaland is more limited than some of the other generational-type talents at the striker position that you mentioned (I think 99% of players in history come up short against the likes of R9 and to a lesser degree Van Basten), but I also think in City he has absolutely no opportunity to really show otherwise even if he's capable of it. Like many other players that come to City, they have to play the way Pep wants, and there is close to no wiggle room to show any other facets of your game than what he wants you to show. With Haaland, it's pretty clear he's instructed to be up front, make runs, keep the CBs busy, and wait for the ball to come to him. I think he's capable of more than what he shows at City, who don't even really use him as well as they could. He has a pass in him, he has vision, he's no technical leader, but he's no slouch either. Unfortunately for him, the role that he plays at City, he is close to useless without the goals, but I think on another team he'd be capable of more even without the goals; it's more of a role issue than a technical one.
