Keep seeing this a lot but I never understood how it's possible to remove scoring a goal from someone's performance, it contributes to how well they performed in 90 minutes.

Just because you score an early goal doesn’t mean you can check out the rest of the game.

What if someone scored a wonder goal and then 3 own goals? Would it be acceptable to say that then?

Lucky it stayed low. Probably hits 2 or 3 of them a game that go flying over or wide. The rest of his ‘efforts’ were atrocious as usual

Bit like great saves from the keeper but he let one in that lost the game

Our fanbase has consistently failed to grasp this concept. Bruno Fernandes is a classic example of this. He will not survive much longer and rightly so.

What are you talking about? "Great goal but useless otherwise" quite literally does nor remove the goal from his performance. In fact removing the goal from his performance would reduce that sentence's word count from 5 to 1. It would read like this: "Useless".

Well, the goal was really good. He hit it well and it went in.

He then proceeded to do absolutely nothing in the rest of the game other than run in a straight line.

Many years back, I played some football. I was awful at it, but once I managed to score a ridiculous goal, honestly dunno how. I took it from the corner flag did some sort of spin past one of the other team and drilled it perfectly into the far corner. I was still shit though.

Same here, I literally dribbled past five county ish level players from kick off and scored.

We lost 10-1 and I didn't see the ball again.

Rashford scored a goal, but his overall play was absolutely shite.

Rashford can’t hold the ball or and was fumbling at every opportunity in the first half. He scores a goal, but it is at the expense of wasting 4 others good opportunities to score a goal for a team.
