Ah they have no interest in the public health service.
They spend insane amounts of money on it. Something like €23bn a year vs €11bn just a decade ago. The problem is they just throw money at the problem to try and keep it out of the news rather than actually fixing it.

I have no idea either, yet.

Aye, we do spend silly money considering the end result. So frustrating.

The Shinners will fix everything.

The health service is beyond fixing.

As for the immigration stuff, at this point it's probably tactical. They know they're shagged at the next election so they create all these issues that will fester with people and let the next government figure it out. All the while, they can take jabs from the opposition side.

The immigration issue is fuelling the alt right loons, and my fear is that they will take from the shinners more than they will take from the two parties in power.

That would make more sense if they didn't give up ages ago. Feels like they got 6 months into government before they resorted to sabotage. I just dont think they know how to fix it. Its not intentional, tactical sabotage its just the natural conclusion of decades of policy. They cant neo liberalism their way out of it so they're paralysed.
Clearly no one in else in FFG has a clue either or they'd have launched a leadership challenge ages ago and had 2+ years in government to try something else. Theres no ambition or solutions there and it'll take a drastic shake up to change things.

Another reason why tactical sabotage would be stupid is that they're liable to wind up in government again. I'd be shocked if at least one wasn't.

I posted this a while back in another thread but it still makes for grim reading.

We were at a party recently and my brother-in-law’s dad was there. He supplies and fits appliances and one of his jobs was to fit out and maintain apartments in Fitzwilliam Sq. There were a group of Canadians staying there, essentially auditing our health system. They apparently do this around the world. He made small chat with them and asked how we were doing. One of the guys said “Honestly, your system is broken and toxic. The vast majority of people are not health care workers or adding any value. It’s middle management and a surfeit of administrators.” I have no idea about the accuracy of that but feck me, we’ve been talking about the same issues my entire life and they've never come close to addressing it, much less solving it.

Sticking around until Fine Gael appoints his successor. Not a great leader, I actually thought he looked unwell in recent public showings.

Major scandal or he set up some very lucrative gig during his jolly in the States. I think it's the latter. Shameless prick wouldn't care about a scandal.

Not that I've ever voted for him or his party, but I've never seen him as an 'awful person' like most Tories/Republicans.

Moreso just someone doing a very hard job that is a bit incompetent/sheltered. Overall I would say he has decent, progressive intentions, just awful execution.

I'm quite enjoying this.
I presume the only reason he hasn't faced a leadership challenge years ago was no one wanted to be in charge for the election. So him pissing off months before is quite beautiful, he's really fecked them.
