It sounds like Croatia was a plucky underdog in both games - of all things. Yes, England lost to Croatia and we played them of the park in the 2nd half and in OT. Brazil was better, sure, but there certainly wanst 50 chances and no, attack for the goal wasnt only real attack, dont exaggarate.. It amazes me how Croatia is still treated like some D team which happens to qualify to every tournament by pure accident I suppose and was 2nd and 3rd in consecutive World cups. If I misinterpreted your post I apologize.
Croatia beating England in 2018 wasn't an upset, they were the better team. Brazil was a major upset and yes, Brazil should have won that game by 3 or 4 goals

You're mixing things. Based on the game Brasil should have won but the fact Croatia won wasn't an major upset in itself. It would have been a major upset if it was I dont know, Japan or Switzerland, with all due respect to those teams.

Doesn't matter.

Go on then, I’ll bite. Simply, it’s either the cross of St. George or it isn’t. There is no such thing as a ‘playful update’. Not that I really care to be honest.

Clearly it is being blown out of all proportion. Smacks of a bit of opportunist populism by Starmer. He should really be above this as a prime minister in waiting. The arguement really isn’t helped being championed by Farage, Lee Anderson and the Daily Fail, and the use of the word ‘woke’. Labour probably shouldn’t get involved with that lot. :wenger:

However I agree that the prices for these things are utterly disgusting, and the FA should put a stop to it as it’s a national shirt.
I wonder if the said great English patriots ever noticed film from the 66 World Cup final and not a single St George cross on site just a sea of union jacks bloody wokies

There has been a playful update of the cross and flag on many previous kits. It's just a cross. It's not harming a single person. Why give a shit?
Case in point btw

Nice to see Keir Starmer highlighting one of the country's major issues. A miniscule design choice on an England kit. Jesus wept.
Unfortunately starter feels the need the to pander to the right wing press making a big deal of this to distract all the simpletons in this country

Nah that’s different, it’s a keepers kit (so they probably couldn’t wear red) and that is clearly a pattern of repeated shapes. I also found this one

Frankly, somehow looks more like a Scotland kit. Again a keepers jersey. I like the new shirt generally, it’s much better than we’ve had in recent years but I certainly won’t be buying it.
Im puzzled as to how the word ‘woke’ has been attributed to the new kit too. What is woke about it?

Starmer is just playing politics.

That said, I wish they’d left the flag alone, for no other reason than it looks better in red and the “updated” version looks like literal vomit.

I think is the only country that would allow the national kit to have its flags colours changed. The Uk is the most woke country on the planet.
Or the softest.
England - “Oh yes old boy, terribly sorry to bother you - would you mind awfully not fluffing up our flag like that, it’s not right

Nike - “whatever, I do what I want!”

England - “ah right, yes. I see. Quite right. Carry on then.

In fairness there was a similar level of outrage about the 2011 shirt IIRC, we've just all forgotten about it because - similar to the current nonsense - it lasted around 3 days before everyone forgot about it.

I think it's silly from Nike to be fair but the outrage, and political leaders commenting on it, is ridiculous.

The other pic is the white home kit with many different colours of the cross

I don't remember any fall out from it TBH

According BBC news, the under 21's "won wearing the kit and didn't seem to mind". Phew, I was seriously worried that not having the flag in the right colours would severely impact performances.

This is such a bizarre thing for the press to get hung up on

"I suppose what you're really asking is should we be tampering with the cross of St George, in my head if it's not a red cross and white background then it's not the cross of St George.
I like the cross as a one off but agree with him here.

Careful. People who weaponise the term "woke" are on the hard right.

"Woke" means to be against social and cultural prejudice and injustice.

If you think being against prejudice is a bad thing then you're the problem.

I'm "woke" and proud. Being prejudice isn't cool.

Back to the issue.

I'm Scottish and a Scotland fan. If Adidas decided to change the saltire, I couldn't care less.

Personally, I think the Nike reimagining of the St George's cross is cool.

Southgate will confirm he's a bellend if he doesn't start Mainoo, Rice and Bellingham together in one of these friendlies

Rice and Bellingham will 100% start. Not necessarily in midfield, though. Kane is out so Bellingham will either play as a 10 or a false 9.

Mainoo shouldn't start. Trouble is, England have no other alternatives, so he probably will start.

Mainoo does look like a talent, but he shouldn't be expected to dominate the midfield.

It's about time Bellingham starts doing something for his country. 2 goals in 27 games is not good enough so far.

So, can Ruben Loftus-Cheek feel robbed that the Waistcoat didn't call him up?

It's amazing how Southgate is always so willing to ignore non-PL form players. I remember him giving Tomori the shaft for ages until Milan won Serie A.

I think he's been playing quite high up the pitch for Milan and to be fair, England have millions of players in that attacking midfield role.

With Rice and Bellingham alongside him he wouldn’t need to dominate it

The politician's in the UK have to be the most gutless ever.

They are constantly afraid of what the softies moan about and make it a priority not to offend them.

Its no wonder the UK is going down the **** hole, our priorities are all wrong.

I mean jeez, who really gives a damn what colours the England cross is on their shirt.

I think we have bigger issues to resolve these days.

Is anyone else supporting Brazil tonight?

I'm English but Nike have bastardised our flag and I hope we get smashed 20 nil.

Get over it. I'm sure with all the negative feedback they'll change it back. Dumb thing to cry about and not support your country.

Why would anyone expect Mainoo to dominate?
