What would you want if United were in the spurs situation

Interesting debate going on about how spurs fans would react to the game tonight. What would you want if we were in the situation with CL possibility and it was Liverpool who would almost certainly win the league if we got a result

For me I wouldn’t care about CL and would just hope they don’t win the league but maybe I am too much of a hater

feck Liverpool. Just like us, Spurs are miles away from achieving anything meaningful in th CL and there is only a slim chance they’d get CL football even if they did win tonight.

I haven't enjoyed United in the UCL in over a decade. It really doesn't bother me that we aren't in it

Liverpool purposely threw a game against Chelsea in 2010 in order to prevent us from winning the title, Slippy G himself set up one of the Chelsea goals.

So yeah I wouldn’t want United to beat a team that was challenging that disgusting club for a league title.

I'd always pick Uniteds success over Liverpools failure. The Champions League is important for the money it generates, the prestige and in attracting players to the club. Every season we miss out on it I feel like our rebuild project is back to square one.

So I would pick United winning in the vain hope that its another brick in the road to becoming the #1 team again.

Remember when Leeds gifted Utd the title by beating Arsenal.

Spurs need to win to get CL football, that should be their aim, forget about Arsenal or their fans and just go and try to win the game.

I’m sure the motivation for Spurs players will be a financial bonus for qualifying and the opportunity to play Champions League football. Their squad aren’t exactly born and bred north London.

I think no one is expecting the spurs players to give anything but their best for this game. I meant more from the fans point of view. I thought Ange was pretty silly with his comments about the spurs fans not wanting them to win

Put it this way, in a couple of years time, nobody will care or remember if Spurs qualified for the CL in 2024 but you can be sure Arsenal fans will remind them forever about the time they helped Arsenal win their first title in 20 years. It's an easy decision. If Chelsea were in this position, I would want us to lose the game.

A draw would be a great result tonight. Arsenal on +61 GD and City on +58. Would mean both teams needing to go out looking for goals on the last day. City are more than capable of sticking 6+ past West Ham if they need to. It’d make the final day very interesting. In all likelihood, City will win tonight and be 3 up against West Ham after half an hour and it’ll be boring.

Chelsea don't have a relevant rivalry with Arsenal. I doubt anybody would care to mock Chelsea for letting Man City win over Arsenal in this hypothetical situation. Chelsea probably have a bigger rivalry with Liverpool than Arsenal.

As a Chelsea fan who grew up in North London, I'm pretty confident in saying you're wrong.

There's over £80m riding on CL qualification, not to mention the potential boost in pay for all at the club?

There's a conflict of interest between the fans and the club for tonight's game, I'd say!

These players and staff won't be around to rue aiding Arsenal, and self-interest will ensure they give everything they have - becoming a perennial fixture in the CL is a huge deal for players, so I should imagine the fans will be aghast with each passing moment the players give everything they have, but the players have zero interest in the machinations of the fans tonight.

We are in this situation every year given city or Liverpool win all the titles now. Wanting to lose so your rivals don’t win something is small time

Oh for sure. We were just discussing the mood among the fans. It's one of those unique scenarios where the fans' wishes and the club's ambitions don't align.

Arsenal fans were asked ahead of the EL final vs Chelsea if they would rather win the EL but Spurs also win the CL (they were in the final that year) or Arsenal lose the final but Spurs also lose. Most of them, pretty sure every one of them, said they'd rather both teams lose than both teams win.

I'd want to try to qualify for the CL. Wanting other teams to fail doesn't come at the expense of failing ourselves.

The CL really doesn’t have the lustre that it used to, it’s just extra money now. Throw the game.

It’s Spurs. They could very well beat City, and lose to Sheffield United on the last day as Villa lose against Palace.

If it were United? Win. We should try to win every game and missing out on the CL to see Liverpool not win the league is beyond small time.

It’s just not a question.
