According to some of the press, that's exactly what Vidic is.

Well, not after today.

Shove that up your bollocks.

Nemanja is well and truly back.

He's not back for good because he's off to Castle Greyskull come the summer
Whatever. Worry about that in the summer.

Towering performance today.

I've been saying all week that the Torres "hex" has been massively overplayed.

I'd like to make clear, my comment was in jest

Agree that he was superb today. Him and Ferdinand's return give us a huge chance in PL and CL now.

Well that's alright then.

Was delighted that this Torres having his number nonsense was put to bed today.

As Fergie said, we're looking tidy with the defence in place.

Was good today. Was probably quite nervous coming up against Torres. But in all honesty we didnt really get pushed too hard today. I reckon Kevin Davies will test him more next Weekend

I didn't see any evidence of nerves. He was commanding.

There was just one incident, close to the end, when VDS came out and obviously didn't give Vidic a shout. For a split second I wondered if Nemanja was going to head it over Edwin's head! More the latter's fault though.Overall, Vidic was great today.

It has little to do with nerves IMO. He just chose to not be stupid vs them bastards this time and the results were there for all to see.
I see what you are getting at but don't fully agree. That means you think that Vidic just decided to be 'stupid' against them the last few times. I don't see this as the case, he didn't let himself get into those sort of situations today which is why there was no last man incidents. Not too mention Rio playing that deep meant that he would cover if Vidic didn't clear the danger first of all.

The thing is those situations he was in were messed up by him being plain stupid. Not put into trouble by his opponent I mean, during the 4-1 loss he got sent off for missing the ball and being forced to pull Torres back. Having fouled him needlessly earlier in the game. After gifting him a goal by missing the ball and acting injured. While at Anfield he made 2 truly needless fouls 2 get sent off again this season

To day he simply cut out the bullshit and was excellent. A player like Torres should never ever give a partnership like him and Rio headaches an it showed today.

The only player I've actually seen give Vidic genuine hell was Bellamy and that was because of his blistering pace. Other times he has just switched off to let men like E'too and Torres make dinner of him.

OK I see what you mean. He actually brought Gerrard down in that incident not Torres. Torres got the better of him after he misjudged the bouncing ball and then he went on to score. You might say those fouls were needless I might agree - fact is in his mind he is trying to stop a clear cut goal opportunity and willing to take one for the team. I can see the 'reason' for the foul in that case.

Why do you say that? A world class striker should be able to give any defence trouble.

Yes I remember this game well, this was his second game back from injury though and it showed. I also agree, Bellamy gave him hell more than once.

Indeed.

It's just that they are so good together. Unless such a striker has serious help, on his own and isolated like Torres was today, he didn't have a prayer, unless they handed him freebies.

Indeed. Vidic is a defender I trust to properly mark strikers. It's only outlandishly quick pace that really wastes him, like happens to most defenders, if he is isolated. Not a tall forward with power and good pace ala Drogba, Torres or E'too. That is why his previous switch offs vs Liverpool were extra annoying.

the goal was Nevilles fault...ballwatching
It actually started with Carrick losing possession in such a dangerous area. I know he lost his footing, but this isn't the first time this season when Carrick should have put his foot through the ball and sent it into orbit and instead tried to pass his way out of danger.

Against shite teams I'm all for passing your way out. But in crunch games, early on, just fecking clear the ball and regroup. Leave the pretty stuff for moments when we're 3 nill up.

It was, but we had opportunities thereafter to get the ball away.

Evra decided to close the ball down and left a gap on the wing for Kuyt. Vidic then came over to cover him, and then Ferdinand had to move across, leaving Neville on Torres.

A bit of movement, and Torres was free - very poor by Neville, who should have at least been challenging for that ball. To a lesser extent, it was a bad decision by Evra to come and close the player which left the gap - but you can hardly blame him, he was drawn into the danger.

But yeah, the blame should be divided between Neville and Carrick.

Yeah, but lets face it. Torres vs Neville in an aerial battle - there's only ever going to be one winner. Hell, you could tie Torres hand behind his back and he'll still out jump Gaz. That goal came about as a result of a missed clearance which was followed up by 10 seconds of ball watching from our entire backline. Letting Nando get a free header inside the first 10 minutes is a cardinal sin. Rio was the closest CB to him and should have tracked him closely. Neville can't mark Torres on a good day, so to expect him to win the header is like asking Anderson to score a hat trick. It's never going to happen.

It's not just a question of who'll outjump who. Neville is great at sneaky pushes that disturbs the attacker sufficiently to waste the chance yet not get a penalty.

I disagree mate.

I don't think any of his red cards were because of stupidity. He's got done on a few occasions and like any centre half, he's ended up hauling them back. Better that than letting them have a free run on goal. When Torres scored, Vidic made a mistake. That happens to the best of them though.

Stupidity is what Ferdinand did when he tried to loft the ball over Bellamy's head in the derby earlier this season.

He did well today, I even thought the yellow was a bit harsh. Well donre Vid's.
It was a joke of a booking.

Harsh on Carrick really.

You want to pick fault in the goal, then you have to have a look at why one of the best strikers in the world was standing unmarked in the middle of the goal from 6 yards out. Rio and Neville have escaped their fair share of stick for that goal.
