Sneakily trying to find games to play that I've not had the pleasure of experiencing yet... might as well make a constructive thread of it.

I guess there's two questions to ask in relation to the title: Enjoyment at the time and re-playability factor. A great sandbox game makes for a classic you can play from scratch multiple times, or no?

How does your top 10 look, which sandbox games have given you that warm, fuzzy feeling?

dreams can't be buy
GTA: Vice City
Driver
Sleeping Dogs
Skate/Skate 2/Skate 3
Driver Parallel Lines
GTA: III

Can't think of anymore at the moment but I love all those.

Edit: If Breath of the Wild counts put that at the top of my list.

I don’t play a massive amount of games, but really enjoyed the most recent Far Cry games, so they would probably make my top 10 by default. If it is strictly open world/sandbox, it is probably something like this...

1. Skyrim
2. Red Dead 2
3. Breath of the Wild
4. GTA 5
5. Red Dead
6. GTA 4
7. San Andreas
8. Far Cry 5
9. Far Cry New Dawn
10. Sleeping Dogs

Big Shenmue and God of War fan too, but obviously don’t qualify as sandbox

Not sure what order.

"Sandbox" can mean a number of things. Personally I am not sure that several of the previously mentioned games truly qualify as sandboxes rather than just "open world". Still, a couple of mentions from me;

Minecraft
Mount & Blade (amazing mods for this too)
Kenshi
Subnautica (this one is a stretch to qualify as a sandbox too, I'll grant)

I may be the devil, but i'm not a monster
Open world list of games i've played.

Red Dead 2 (just stunning)
San Andreas
GTA IV (Ballard of Gay Tony is one of the best parts of the franchise period). Wish they'd do a remake with some of the elements of GTAV... post stock market crash would also be great;
Red Dead
Sleeping Dogs
GTA V (I dont find myself wanting to return after Red Dead 2 - There's alot of nothingness in that game and the story does not invite you to do side quests for any real benefit unlike RDR2)
Just Cause 2 (neither 3 or 4 have lived up to it)
Far Cry 3/4 (both are quality, Far Cry 5 is shit)
