Don't understand why this has gone under the radar here.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023...-sudans-rsf-kills-1300-in-darfur-monitors-say - They went door to door slaughtering people.

Background of whats going on: https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/sudan-politics-darfur/

The ANC are complicit, complete fecking silence, and if they don't want an international force in the region interfering, Africa surely have to do something. @africanspur do you have any insight on the conflict?

There’s a thread on the broader civil war here. @Jaqen H'ghar is a Sudanese poster on the ground in Khartoum.

What the feck happened there? That has to be making the headlines right now.
The Iranian proxies are committing them(Janjaweed jidadists are affiliated to Hamas and Hezbollah and part of the Iranian networks) and those like Lowkey et al with Iranian paymasters have no reason to use their platform to highlight it.

Thanks. The first post is fairly inaccurate so probably needs updated somewhat. I hope he's out now, that situation sounds horrific for him. I think there's a discussion to be had regarding the above but not sure where it fits. Perhaps that thread. This is a panarab Islamism though, directly connected to other regions [and being enabled by them somewhat.]

Can we avoid overly online lingo like "orc", so that regular people understand the context? At least in the title.
Yes. I'll edit. I wanted to convey 'russian backed' and avoid the Iran slant in the title.

It's incredibly awful. I don't have that much extra insight into the conflict unfortunately beyond what most would probably know. Its been ongoing for quite a while but not aware of any specific trigger for this event.

I will correct you on one thing though. I have no idea where you've gotten this idea though that the RSF are in any way linked to Iran, beyond a slightly clunky attempt to paint everything bad happening in the region in them. I don't think I've ever seen any suggestion that they're linked.

In the one conflict where they're both engaged (Yemen), they've been fighting on completely opposite sides. They fought on the pro Hadi side, backed by Saudi and UAE.

Awful video (with faces blurred out) on Al-Jazeera of a mobile phone videoing men who are alive being thrown into a pit and buried alive. The report mentioned women and children as well. How is the world ignoring this?

3000+ dead in the last week apparently. I don’t even know what reliable agencies exist to donate to over there.

I honestly can't understand why someone would want to watch this. The description is enough to give me nightmares.

Feck that.

I didnt. I had al-jazeera on in background and they went to a Sudan update and it was part of the story.

Similar to the ongoing conflict and turmoil in the Congo (that deserves a thread, if I can be arsed) and coups/insurgencies across the Sahel, not surprising that the civil war in Susan isn't attracting much interest compared to Gaza/Ukraine; not deemed as "important" from an internationally strategic perspective.

According to an admittedly pretty dodgy source (my mum), there are officially 55 conflicts going on in the world at the moment. Some bigger, if you can call it that, than others….but only 2 really make the news

I think a lot people are simply more invested in stuff that are either closer to home or conflicts that are significant to their political paradigme. My cousin who managed a ngo in South Sudan lamented the zero coverage it was getting when the Syrian civil war was taking up all the headlines.
