Yeah nice he's willing to put the extra work in and all but anyone thinking a few extracurricular sessions are gonna make him comfortable with the ball is deluding themselves

Hopefully can get a decent offer for him

This guy has zero tech. How is a Man United player we spent 50m on. Makes no sense.

The fact that a player playing for Man Utd who cost 50m has to resort to this, doing training drills that are done with kids to improve his touch and technique should say it all really.

I have no idea how anyone can see this as a positive, it's just a sad indictment on how poor he really is as a footballer.

Next week he'll be playing one twos off a wall without falling over.

Everything is very slow in that video. Perhaps he's getting used to route running and space awareness but doesn't look great.

At least he's trying to improve I suppose but yeah, doesn't look like a pro, looks like a semi-pro

Alternatively you could question why he has to do this outside of the club- surely they can offer such drills to allow him an opportunity to improve.

All the balls getting lost in the river was eating into the De Jong budget.

I don't mind him doing the drills. Football is a game of habit. Under pressure we all default to habitual responses. So doing drills to create new, better habits, makes sense.

What concerns me is the idea I'm meant to be impressed by seeing this.

Is this new? If so, why is it new? The player was bought years ago. Has he not been working on his touch and overlapping in that time? Is it only now that we have a new coach that he feels that he needs to put in work, outside of the training the club forces him to do, to improve?

If this is not new then why are we only seeing it now? Moreover, where is the evidence that this isn't new from what Wan-Bissaka has been doing on the pitch? Why have we not seen a clear upwards improvement in Wan-Bissaka's game over the past couple of years? This is the same lad who got sent off against Young Boys last season because his second touch is a tackle.

I remember when Andy Cole signed for United. He was so limited as a player. Just a guy for the box. However, over time his game came on massively. He became an all round forward who could contribute to build up. Who had fantastic hold up play. Who could drift outside of the 18 yard box, maybe even score a chip or a scissor kick. The improvement in his game was obvious, you didn't need him putting out videos to show what he'd been doing.

Honestly, find the Wan-Bissaka video bizarre.

Agree. Or why didn't the coaching staff realise there was an issue and arrange it.

This seems to be a recurring issue with the club.

Technique is something that you can improve upon slightly but that's it. It's like your IQ, you can raise it by a couple of points through study and memory exercises, but you'll never go from being an idiot to Nikola Tesla. You start with a base level which can be modestly increased through hard work but will never significantly change. AWB is starting from such a low base level and that's the problem.

“My son Nico has 1:1 sessions with Jack, and has taken part in some of the holiday sessions.

He absolutely loves it, Jack has given him some really beneficial skills to take to the games he plays at the weekend.

My Daughter who loves the idea of football but struggles to get stuck in, has been taking part in after school sessions with Jack, and it has brought her on massively, and has boosted her confidence massively.

Highly recommended.”

He has transformed my 9 year old in just 6 months and turned him into a footballer, he now (like Jack) lives and breaths it. He really enjoys it and is super confident in his game, something that was clearly lacking prior to his PP sessions.

“My 8 year old son first attended a football session with Jack round about a year ago now. He is still having 1-2-1 sessions with him, and we try and book in with Jack as much as possible. And here’s why: We cannot recommend Jack enough! He is excellent at recognising where a player needs to develop, and will thoroughly work on these developments throughout a session. Jack is extremely football knowledgeable, observant, respectful and a clear communicator. When my son is scoring 6/7 goals on a weekend, it’s usually because he has had a session with Jack that week - honestly! The skills, shooting techniques and sharpness of play have been instilled in my boy, by Jack, and he is thriving on the football field because of him.

He's working with guys that mainly do 1 to 1 sessions with kids, I am not saying these guys aren't good at what they do. But, it's not like he's doing some elite level high speed, high intensity drills under pressure. He should have all those basic skills like first touch, passing, body movements and dribbling built into his muscle memory already.

Should a PL footballer who cost 50 million and is paid more than most 10 and 11 year old's, be taking valuable coaching time away from them? I don't think so.

Wait are we criticizing a player for working on his weaknesses?

Its on Reddit

I don't know what people are expecting ETH to improve with base technical talent like this. Borders on being setup to fail. We should cash in but we'll wait for the obvious to drop his value to a fraction.

I think so too. If such a thing as a fixed variable existed in sports it would be technical ability. A foundational trait that's as close to god given as it gets.

Imagine if that's an air fighter pilot doing basic landing drill with a cesnna

Comparing football players with pilots

About time someone comes up with "Why do players celebrate after scoring a goal, postman doesn't do that after delivering post",

Oh wait.

No. I am wondering why he's been at the club years and is only now showing that he might be wanting to work on the parts of his game that are weak.

This kind of work should have been part of his regime from the day he signed. Instead, and I could be wrong, it feels like the attitude was go to training then go home. Rather than staying back late and working on improving ala Ronaldo.

Like I said @Oranges038 it's bizarre. Someone close to the man has thought it a great idea to put this up. Mad. This is the kind of video he should have been putting up two years ago if he wanted us to be impressed.

I’d still prefer him in the squad over Dalot.

Dalot has no benefit when he plays (because his attacking isn’t even “good”) whilst Wan Bissaka at least has one even on a rainy day.

Lots of players work with private coaches. I know that the likes of Bruno and Elanga do this as well.

What is the one benefit, out of interest? The occasional slide tackle? Dalot is better at AWB going forward and more comfortable on the ball, by some way. Defensively they are both below average. It's not at all surprising that ten Hag seems to prefer Dalot, in my opinion.

A player getting coached is nothing new. Its in game situations when he has to decide what to do, under pressure is the problem.

On the ball he is rubbish but his defensive ability is hugely over rated.

Noted but we haven't had a pass and move dependent philosophy in a while. Whomever was better under Ole's shit on a stick setup doesn't mean much. There's a reason all these training videos have an emphasis on ball related drills. Passing, control, receiving, all the abilities that determine comfort in possession.

Who will want him? - I think 30m would be reasonable to expect in the current market.

The coaches he's working with put the video out to promote themselves. They're running a business and having a Manchester United first team player training with them is great for their business.

The negativity of fans is unreal

A love a joke and all but these players are just trying to improve themselves. Fair play to them for trying.

A player with Zero tech cannot even pass the ball. AWB can pass the ball well, he just does not know when to make the pass. I understand most of you love to make extreme judgments, but professional footballers have a certain standard and i suggest most of you go through videos on academy player training before making such remarks.

Another thing which some people dont realize is that transfer value is determined by the seller ultimately. It doesnt matter if they think the player is good or not, what matters is the potential value estimated by the seller and the overall financial strength of the buyer. Obviously Manchester United tend to get the higher end of the value due to their financial strength, which they have started to realize how to workaround it.

Agree. We have too many "fans" who think that a player is useless because he doesnt play in a way they see in clubs such as Man City and Liverpool. They dont realize that there are many ways a player can be used and made to play besides gegenpressing and total football.

If he just could give us some offensive outlay from the RW as he did in his first and second seasons when he provided like 4 assists - I'll be ok with it, just show us something for start.

I can tell you that they have been doing this type of training during Ole's time. He was actually getting better going forward during the 20/21 season, which cannot have been achieved without the coaches' inputs.

Last season has been a mental and fitness wreck for him and other players, which ETH will look to certainly address.

We have such a bunch of negative minded posters in this forum.
I'm sure that almost every player in the squad will improve their technique, and awareness this season, some more than others, and those that cannot or will not buy in to whatever ETH is trying to bring in will probably be on their way out of the club.
I think, and hope, that several players who have been written off by the doomsayers actually become an integral part of the squad going forward.

Anyone can organise five a side man in the middle drills but I feel certain in saying there's absolutely no way Ole's methods run parallel to the same level of detail. In fact I doubt he buys a player like AWB right after selling Smalling if he truly knew how to implement tiki taka. There's a famous clip of him telling his players to stop working the ball and shoot within sight of goal, their differences must be wider than one of those expectations/reality memes. Didn't even take trainings to even begin to execute this level of attention to detail.

As expected, and for a year or two (not to say 10), we are frustrated at our club and just put our frustration on almost every single players.

Nevertheless, I'd rather having him as a starter than Dalot. Sure, he can't attack, can't really get off pressure or create goals, but at least he defends, and with our team, having a player than can defend is a bonus.

A detailed training method does not need to be total football, tiki taka or gegenpressing based. You will be surprised that Real madrid won the Champions league and La Liga without going through such methods.

Style of play is not the key thing in a training method, rather it is about raising awareness on where and how to move the ball, how you position yourself when the ball is not with you and specific drills to improve on how you keep possession of the ball. Once the players learn this, then only does the first team manager and coaches go into specifics about how they should play based on different formations.

Dont just judge based on videos you see on the net. You wont get to see full training videos as it might reveal key points about how the team is setting itself up for the next game. Thus, it is very premature to say that the coaches during Ole's tenure did not go into details since we have no access to the full training methods.
