It feels as a United fan that over the past three or so seasons we are hitting the woodwork more than we used to, particularly with shots from range, and particularly from Pogba and Rashford. I realise this probably has nothing to do with the facts of the matter.

I'm interested to know whether fans of other teams on here share this feeling. Is it universal, the same way almost everyone feels that their team get rough treatment from referees? Which players in your team seem particularly unlucky in terms of often hitting the woodwork with their best efforts on goal?

Also interested to hear if any of the stat collating websites count how often teams and/or players hit the woodwork.

Use filters for previous seasons. No United player in top 10 last season. Highest Pogba joint 14th on 3 attempts that hit the woodwork. This season Rashford top of PL on 6 attempts that hit the woodwork. This includes his penalty against Palace, the header against Villa that resulted in the own goal when it hit the keeper on the back, brilliant shot against City that hit the bar, free-kick against Leicester, attempt against Burnley from outside the area. Understat seem to think Rashford hit the post 5 times instead of 6.

Team currently joint 3rd on attempts that hit the woodwork this season. Last season joint 17th.

From memory, Martial hit post from distance against Newcastle at home, Greenwood shot from close range but at an angle hit outside of post late on at Bournemouth, Matic super shot from long distance hit woodwork at Everton. Fernandes free-kick hit outside of post at Chelsea. Opponents have struck the United woodwork a similar number of times this season; Chelsea did so twice in the opening match, Wolves moments before they scored, Matty Longstaff at Newcastle, Arsenal away, Henderson at Liverpool, Deulofeu for Watford at Old Trafford, Mason Mount free-kick at Chelsea, Sigurdsson at Everton.

According to Understat (who seem to use a different definition for attempts that strike the woodwork, perhaps not including attempts that were saved onto the woodwork), with the exception of 2016/7, United strike the woodwork a very similar number of times to our opponents over the course of a PL season since 2014/5.

Pogba hit the woodwork about 10 times in his first season.
