There is a reason all the new signings and Woodward call us the biggest team in the world.

Luke Shaw isn't 6 foot 1
I'm 6'1 and I've met him in real life. We were pretty much the same height. HTH.

It's just that most premier league athletes are 6+ so they don't seem so big on tv.

In that case Jones would look short too as he's listed as the same height as Shaw. I've honestly always thought of him as a little short, even if I was wrong he may be 5ft 11 or so, he can't be centre back height, I just can't believe that.

Fifa has Jones and Shaw as 6 foot/185cm.

Surprisingly they have Valencia as 5'9/181cm. He looks taller than that to me.

With the height advantage we got in this team, it's a pity that we don't have a dead ball specialist like Beckham or Dimitri Payet. Our corner/free kick takers are usually Blind, Mhki, Rashford, Mata and Young. None of them can be considered good/consistent at it, let alone specialist.

Maybe, Griezman could change all that next year!

I'm doubting people's commitment to Sparkle Motion
There is that old saying, "A good big un always beats a good small un". I think it mainly comes from boxing or fighting, but it does translate to most sports I guess. Bolt would be a good example. Also I don't think a good big sportsman beats a good smaller sports person every time, but I'd guess it would be around seven out of every ten.

And Messi and all the other low centre of gravity short arses don't count :nervous:

Shame we must moved Rooney, Bastian & Ando over the years, or we can have the weight crown too.

I have seen many saying that Jose prefers tall players but if you check signings made by Chelsea and City, all are above 6 feet except Bernardo Silva.

Morata - 6.2 feet
Bakayoko - 6.1 feet
Rudiger - 6.3 feet
Ederson - 6.2 feet
Mendy - 6.1 feet
Danilo - 6.0 feet
Walker - 6 feet

shaw is a bit stocky in build so he looks shorter than he is whereas Jones is thin so he looks taller than he is

We are surely going to score more goals from corners.

Thought Rashford was like 5"11 did he grow a couple inches this year? He looks taller than he is due to his thin build, that's for sure.

Valência should be around 5"9 5"10 tops. His elegant build makes him look taller as well.

Also Martial is 5"11 on transfermarkt.

Does it really have anything to do with height? Martial is pretty tall and seems to posses really good close control.

I believe that when you combine physical factors such as height, size, strength and speed with technical qualities then you do increase your chances of winning.

1. Having tall, big and strong players allows you to physically wear down the opponent and their stamina. Tackles, 50/50's and duels take more out smaller players.
2. Having tall, big and strong players, in some respects, mentally affects the smaller opposition in some way. It's psychological too.
3. Having tall, big and strong players allows for variation in tactical approach, whether on the ground or vertically, providing your tall players match smaller players technical standard.

I hated United playing the mid to early 2000's Arsenal because they matched us on a technical level and physically we couldn't match them man-for-man. We had the quality to beat them, thankfully, but my point is this. We, and others, psychologically dreaded playing that big, tall, fast, technical, strong Arsenal.
Agree.

A good big player always beats a good small player.

I love these threads where people argue about players heights based on misleading images from the telly.

Height is important - but the difference between 6' and 6'2 is easily compensated

Steve Bruce wasn't the tallest but he was probably the best player at set-pieces United ever had. I assume he was a good 3 inches shorter than Pallister at least. He was still a lot more deadly on set-pieces.

Same with Karl-Heinz Riedle. Small but really good in the air

We're shocking at attacking set pieces, so I don't know if the height has actually been an advantage.

Premier League squads ranked 1-20 by height
Date published: Wednesday 2nd August 2017 7:35

Jose Mourinho’s summer signings mean Manchester United now have the Premier League’s second-tallest squad, in the top flight behind West Brom.

Mourinho’s three summer additions Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic are all well over 6ft, while winger target Ivan Perisic is 1.87m and could lift them to the top of the table if he signs.

1. West Brom 1m 84.7cm

2. Manchester United 1m 84.5

3. Crystal Palace 1m 84.4

I'm pretty sure agility and, maybe to a lesser extent, balance are usually linked to height but technique isn't.

In all seriousness, our side next season could be huge.

DeGea(189cm)
Valencia (179cm)
Shaw(185cm)
Bailly(187cm)
Lindelof(187cm)
Matic(195cm)
Herrera(182cm)
Pogba(191cm)
Rashford(185cm)
Lukaku(191cm)
Perisic (187cm)?

Valencia would be our smallest player but he's an absolute monster so...
I'm a quite tall guy and I'd be the 3rd shortest in that team
