The way Anthony plays with Marcus (Rashford) is unplayable at times. Anthony was a big miss when he was injured," Young said. "You can see he is a natural goalscorer. For me I think France are missing out - I can't understand why he's not in their squad. That is up to them but he can only get better.

He’s just come back from injury and had a few good games.

I can understand why he’s not been picked yet.

A full fit season, and he could make that no.9 spot his for France.

With his hold-up ability as well as actual pace, he surely offers something no other French striker does? Giroud is third choice at best domestically (and now 33), Benzema is basically banished... who else? Ben Yedder and Lacazette are both different type of strikers (as well as inferior players). Grizou plays behind the striker, and Mbappe is normally out wide?

Think with Martial, they would be something like this;

Mbappe...Griezman...Martial
Which would be an incredibly technical and interchangeable front 3. France are looking good for the next few tournaments, with all their youth coming up.

I think what we've all learnt is you play Martial central or not at all.

I don't see that as criticising Deschamps, more just him supporting his mate
Aye, just standing up for Martial. Deschamps has plenty of other quality options, but like Young I hope he's keeping Martial in his plans.

He hasn't earned his place in the squad yet, he has 3 league goals and only just came back from injury anyway

Can't complain but thank you very much Deschamps, Martial won't get a fatigue due to international football & he will be hungrier to prove his worth. Hit 2 birds with one stone :D

By the way Martial was supposed to be in the list in August but injured himself the following weekend. It's a non story.

Edit: I mixed March and August.

He did and will until the day he starts playing badly for France.
F that.. If that's the case man should be in uproar JLingz is dropped for England. Deschamps clearly has an agenda against him and even if he has a really good season he wont make the squad.

Not true. He has been picked when his form has been good before. Mainly lost his place due to not being fit and not playing under Jose

He will make the team but it won't be instead of Giroud who is the starter but Ben Yedder, now Ben Yedder is in good form.

He scored 5 games on the bounce last season, he never got a call up.

Meanwhile Pereira, Shaw and Gardner have all said they don't think Martial should be in the France team.

Oh wait, that's right, no teammate would ever do that. Bit of a non story.

It's not like he's been lighting the world on fire for France. Ended his WC tournament without scoring, heck not even registering a shot on target and we're talking about a striker.

I guess Giroud is just a type of specific player Deschamp loves having in his squad, most managers/coaches have those type of players who are seen as average by everyone else whereas the coach himself feels that he brings something valuable for his plans and the team.

But if we're strickly speaking about Giroud's performances for France than he's had multiple mediocres ones for anyone to make a statement saying that he'll not be called if he stopped performing for France.

Giroud has been very good for France outside of the WC were he was bad in terms of scoring but good at everything else. Since he has been by far our best attacker.

Deschamphas called upon Martial whenever he was fit and performing. Every time he's not been called has mostly been due to him lacking playing time and not performing at a required level(his time during Mourinho's stint).

But generally Deschamp has called Martial. In fact I'm a bit suprised he wasn't called this time(bc I was expecting it since Deschamp has called him whenever he's been fit, playing and performing well) but I guess Martial just recently came back so he opted to leave him out.

Fair enough.. Well I hope he makes the Euro's. Love supporting our players in tournaments. The more the better.

This is an odd statement given that Martial played on the left in his first season and even during subsequent seasons he did play well there when given proper runs.

Your claim makes it sound as if he's hopeless on the left when in reality he'd shown himself to also be good on the left when given runs of games.

I beg to differ, yes, he is stronger centrally, but he can certainly hold is own as a wide forward to. He was our best performer before Sanchez came in, and that was from LW.
But we're talking about a team that has genuine world class alternatives who specialise in that role.

Martial has shown tendencies to disappear as much as he does turn up when wide. He doesn't have the same intensity there.

Happy for Martial that his form this season has earned him a callup to the national squad.

It's no coincidence that the team's recent good form coincides with his return from injury. We were showing similarly good form before he got injured too.

Think that was an old tweet. Martial is not part of the squad for this week's qualifier

It was last season, Mainoldo thought that he was ignored last season when he was in form.

Would have thought the fact that long term injured Pogba & Lloris in the squad of said tweet would have given the game away that it is not recent

Does anyone give a shit about ashley young's opinion on anything?
Why not?

He is a top professional footballer with loads of experience playing from the lower leagues until the premier league.

Played in a couple of world cups too.

Maybe you might want to listen what he has to say.

We should be happy that he isn't in the squad. The more players who don't go on international duty the better for us. Less chance they come back fatigued or injured
