So Nothing like Pogba at all .He's a box to box midfielder with good speed and a great stature, but a natural ability to win tackles.
Think of a more hard working, better tackling Pogba without the flair element.
He's not like Pogba, he's a versatile midfielder with a strong defensive game. I see him as a DM long-term, depending on he's partnered with.So Nothing like Pogba at all .
Similar to Pogba in stature, body build. Not playing style. So Nothing like Pogba at all .
Great way of saying that you've never actually watched him play...Sooooo another AWB in the midfield ? we don't need that
Fair enough. So good acquisition but again would require us buying another midfielder to partner him if we do a double pivot. He's a box to box midfielder with good speed and a great stature, but a natural ability to win tackles.

Why would you think Ten Haag would rate VDB good enough for the new level he is managing at.If we get ten Haag as manager then it’s most likely that VDB will get a lot more playing time, we will still obviously target a dm but if we play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 next season then it could be, VDB DM and Bruno. Which would give us good balance I think.
Hot take - what if he prefers VDB over Bruno in a midfield 3? There's no way of knowing who he opts for in his system if or when he arrives. Why would you think Ten Haag would rate VDB good enough for the new level he is managing at.
Also where in Ten Haag's football system does VDB and Bruno play in the same midfield? Just a general question. Obviously I believe VDB and Bruno cannot play together in a midfield 3 or that VDB is good enough for a top class Premier League pivot.
It's not a hot take he might very much well like him. But Bruno will be an expensive bench player club politics will prevent this.Hot take - what if he prefers VDB over Bruno in a midfield 3? There's no way of knowing who he opts for in his system if or when he arrives.
Neves/Tchouameni would be a nice pairing if that's the plan, and a definite upgrade.Fair enough. So good acquisition but again would require us buying another midfielder to partner him if we do a double pivot.

They can easily play together, especially in a 4-2-3-1, have a more defensive midfielder partnering VDB and then Bruno in front. There’s always a way to fit in your best players… them 2 can play together more then pogba and Bruno can i would say… if VDB is good enough for Ajax then he’s certainly good enough for us as they have been playing at a much higher level then us for the past few years. Why would the united board even buy VDB if he wasn’t good enough for this level? Why would you think Ten Haag would rate VDB good enough for the new level he is managing at.

I wish football worked like that but it doesn’t.They can easily play together, especially in a 4-2-3-1, have a more defensive midfielder partnering VDB and then Bruno in front. These double standards are infuriating, Pogba has more games where he was nowhere near his supposed level than he has games at this fictitious level, same with Scot and Fred but it's Donny that gets to pay the price for a few poor showings. You talk of VdB's poor game at West Ham, haven't we seen similarly poor games from Bruno, Pogba and Scot? But have they been exiled from the team for that?I wish football worked like that but it doesn’t.
We’ve had two managers now who have refused to play him in a double pivot 8. He might very well be good enough there in the Dutch league but clearly there is an issue there in the Prem. I also believe it’s because his better position is as an advanced midfielder which is where he built his reputation in the Champions League.
Also there are many of examples of players being good in the Dutch league but not being transferable in the Prem.
Also West Ham away was a clear example of who he’s nowhere near Pogba’s level and will never be.
Have a look at where and how he played for AjaxThey can easily play together, especially in a 4-2-3-1, have a more defensive midfielder partnering VDB and then Bruno in front. It's not really going to help since he has played well and a lot in various positions for Ajax. As a B2B in a midfield two or midfield three, as an AM in a 4231 and even as the DM in a 433.Have a look at where and how he played for Ajax
No, not really. He has done a good-ish job in a variety of roles in the Eredivisie. Actually excelled in only one, both in CL and at National Level. It's the same role Bruno Fernandes excels inIt's not really going to help since he has played well and a lot in various positions for Ajax. As a B2B in a midfield two or midfield three, as an AM in a 4231 and even as the DM in a 433.
I like this comment but then you went back on yourself with your last paragraph. If Ralph doesn’t pick him as far as I’m concerned he don’t like him!!!These double standards are infuriating, Pogba has more games where he was nowhere near his supposed level than he has games at this fictitious level, same with Scot and Fred but it's Donny that gets to pay the price for a few poor showings. VDB may not be Roy Keane incarnated but his level of disuse even when our midfield can't even do the basics well and is at this level points to something other then football.
Then you defer to Ole's opinion and RR's as if they are infallible when evidence on the ground points otherwise. There is a reason why RR was in the backwaters in Russia and Ole is back fishing in Norway. The boy played in a CL semi final just three years ago, something we last did almost ten years ago and we are supposed to believe that he is so bad that he can't even get one start in the PL, with respect that's nonsense.
I think RR is still deferring to those who were here before him and his selections reflect that. It's understandable because he has been here five minutes and COVID interrupted him so he is just starting to form his own opinions on players and the team.
If he is in a double pivot with a 'proper anchorman type CDM that allows him to do his thing' then he is perfectly fine there just as he in a 'three' with said holding player behind him. This is what I said too.
VDB's intelligent runs and finishes happen from CAM.
When he plays as a CM, he is also making those intelligent runs - but it leaves the other midfield partner by himself which can be horrible on counter attacks.
VDB is fine in a 3 man midfield with a proper anchorman type CDM that allows him to do his thing - but I don't see him "safe" in a double pivot.
So he can’t fit into our midfield anywhere other then number 10? Ralf plays 2 of them and he still can’t start he’d easily walk into our midfield if Fred and mctominay can start week in week Out.Have a look at where and how he played for Ajax
Spot on. Couldn’t agree with you more. These double standards are infuriating, Pogba has more games where he was nowhere near his supposed level than he has games at this fictitious level, same with Scot and Fred but it's Donny that gets to pay the price for a few poor showings. If he can, then why doesn't he? And of course he won't play as an AM when you have Bruno, Sancho and PogbaSo he can’t fit into our midfield anywhere other then number 10? Ralf plays 2 of them and he still can’t start he’d easily walk into our midfield if Fred and mctominay can start week in week Out.
Alright then, so what if Bruno, sancho and pogba are all playing awful? Do we just keep selecting them because of the name or do we actually give people chances who deserve it? There’s a reason them players are always playing bad it’s because they know no matter what they won’t be dropped. If he can, then why doesn't he? And of course he won't play as an AM when you have Bruno, Sancho and Pogba
He's maybe a top level player as an AM. Everything else and he's average at best
Sure. If those guys play like shite and he still doesn't get chances, then he should get the hell out asapAlright then, so what if Bruno, sancho and pogba are all playing awful? Do we just keep selecting them because of the name or do we actually give people chances who deserve it? It's just infuriating how people go to lengths to justify a wrong simply because it is being done by people in authority. We get it, he hasn't impressed when he got the chance to play but it surely isn't as bad as we have seen from the ones favored with stinking up the place in midfield week in, week out.Spot on. Couldn’t agree with you more.
Hard to give a real answer on that as Zakaria isn’t the same player he was pre injury and is playing in that awful Monchengladbach team but in a better team with better players would obviously show his talent, as a free transfer at the end of the season he as well as Kamara are no brainers in my opinion. Is he better than Zakaria. Can they play together.
Yeah so did II thought Chelski were favourites to sign him!
It will be Barça or Real next week and maybe Juve the week after.....got to save something for mid and end of JanuaryYeah so did I
Did not watch the game, but no player alone has the sole responsibility for either. Reading a bit about the game, it seems he was very dominant (as he usually is).0-0 draw vs Nantes.
Was he the reason defensively they kept a clean sheet or the reason they couldn't score themselves?
How was he yesterday?
We'd be mad not to be in for him.
