Madoff died at the Federal Medical Center, a prison for inmates with health needs, in Butner, North Carolina, apparently from natural causes. Last year his lawyers filed court papers to try to get him released from prison during the pandemic, saying he had end-stage renal disease and other chronic medical conditions.

Glad they made him die in prison where he belonged. A friend of mine's Mum got scammed of almost all her savings which I guess in turn would have been eventually his inheritance. No idea if she got any back with the recent recovery schemes.

The reimbursement has been in the low single digits percentage wise.

I'd guessed as much. I don't want to ask as it was part of a big family fall out and now my friend doesn't speak to him Mum and I'm in an increasingly awkward position of being an intermediary as he is near me in Sydney and she is now in London.
