Inspired by other threads I'm interested to see who makes a post Sir Alex Era XI. Obviously limited to no real success since he went so let's see what team we can put together.

PS. You can't include any of his players. So essentially that last title winning squad is void.

It's pretty tricky right?

Astonishing we haven't signed a top level defence minded midfielder in the time since SAF retired, I'm not a big fan of Herrera but he has to be in the team to add some degree of relative balance (although even that is pushing it really). Similar to how we went 10+ years without signing a right winger until we got Sancho in the summer. Our recruitment really has been bizarre.

Interesting that most people have 7-8 members of the current first team in it . .

Who said Ole hasn't left us better off eh?

Interpreting OP to mean no one that played under Sir Alex, so Ronaldo is obviously out. Should probably cut Pogba too tbh, in which case Matic comes in.

Thought Pogba played for Fergie before during his first stint? Why everyone including him?

I liked the thought that there was a dynasty of Sir Alexes, when I misread the title.

Yeh.. Look at all those glitters in our trophy cabinet from the last 3 years. :D

Anyway, my team is:

---------------------- DDG --
Valencia -- Smalling -- Varane -- Shaw
-------- Herrera -------- Carrick ---
--Pogba- ----- Bruno --- Di Maria--
------------------- Ronaldo --------

Under the right manager, this would be CL winner contender.

OP had this addendum:

Leaves you quite bare in all honesty!

I think with the right manager, this could be a good side. Would be some proper shithousery stuff with Di María, Herrera and Fernandes.

Henderson
Wan-Bissaka Varane Blind Shaw
Matić
Herrera Fernandes
Sancho --- Cavani --- Di María

Manager: José Mourinho

De Gea is the easiest choice, carried us for 3 years.

De Gea

Valencia
Smalling
Maguire (pre this season)
Shaw

Herrera
Fellaini
Bruno

Greenwood
Zlatan
Rashford

I expect by end of season Varane and Ronaldo will be in there.

Cavani has been brilliant too

On paper its

De Gea, Awb, maguire, Varane, shaw, herrera, pogba, fernandes, sancho, Ronaldo, di Maria

I think you'd count Ronaldo in this, he was long gone before SAF retired and has re-signed for a club a completely different player to the one that left. For a similar reason I'd also count Pogba.

Maguire in almost every team, purely based on the subconscious bias of him costing 80m . Going by how they played for the club, Rojo, Blind, Varane, Lindelof, are all better than Maguire.

If we go purely off United performances I've no idea how Di Maria is getting in so many sides.

Romero
AWB Maguire Rojo Shaw
Hererra Matic
Rashford Bruno Martial
Ibra

Martial shoe horned into that LW due to Rashford having to play on the right with Sancho not playing enough yet. Same with Varane for Rojo who had a small period of being solid as a rock alongside Jones. Very slim pickings their otherwise. Pogba played under Fergie so can't be picked.

I agree with everyone but him.
Rojo wasn't half bad when he was given a run of games. He had one or two very good runs of form where he looked great. Put his absolute all into every game as well. Unfortunately him constantly putting his body on the line meant he was more often than not injured!

And him putting other people's bodies on the line meant he was suspended many of the other times.

But to be honest, I think he could have been great with more trust and fitness as a LCB in either a 2 or 3CB system. Alas, it was not meant to be, but good profile for a left-footed defender. It was a shame to see him put in LB so much, though.

Romero
Wan-Bissaka Maguire Blind Shaw
Herrera Pogba
Mata Fernandes Rashford
Ibrahimovic

Subs: Henderson, Lindelof, Matic, Greenwood, Martial, Lukaku, Cavani

Ronaldo would definitely be in there at the end of the season I'm sure and same with Varane if he can stay fit.

AWB - Varane - Blind - Shaw
Pogba - Matic - Herrera
Greenwood - Cavani - Rashford

AWB sort of gets in by default. Bruno is the obvious omission but whilst he’s been individually fantastic for the most part, that midfield three is the one that won us our only major stuff post SAF (an FA cup and a Europa). I know that logic should extend to Ibrahimovic upfront but I have an agenda against “epic Lion Zlatan”.
