Truly terrifying where we will be with this in the next decade or two.

I for one welcome our robotic overlords.

That's not really soulful at all. It's simple a machine follow preprogrammed patterns.

They can't actually listen to music and dance to the beat. For instance, you put on a song they aren't programmed and they'll look completely out of rhythm and soulless.

Ironically I doubt they can even dance the robot at anywhere near say Shields and Yarnell. They also couldn't do things like breakdance to the rhythm or swing dance as a couple.

As far as dancing goes, the above video wouldn't even get anyone's attention if it was humans doing this.

A guy on Joe Rogan said he wouldnt be worried at all about AI, not for the long future anyhow. Basically said we are centuries off the machines being as intelligent as us.

Depends who the "us". My TI-82 is more intelligent than the last president we had and I bet any basic AI would get vaccinated (install Norton?) if asked.

They're impressive but the real challenge lies in powering them. The military keeps cancelling their projects because their power generators are too loud.

AI is actually nowhere near as capable as most people think it is. They're getting good at learning and interpreting in specific fields but the ability to actually think for themselves is miles off.

AI at present is about training a model based on a given data set (type) and attempting to use that model to make predictions using new data which is of the same type. There is almost no AI which is capable of being trained on one data set type and being able to predict something from completely different data. This is called "General AI" and is still several decades away. The bigger issue concerning AI is whether the model can make accurate predictions and also ethical implications of where and how it is used, e.g. facial recognition.

I saw one of the dog robots live a couple of years ago. It wasn’t crazy like this, but still crazy.

With regards to the topic, these robots do not have any AI on them. For the most part it was just handcrafted rules, I think only in the last couple of years, they are using some sort of machine learning. Also, thus far Boston Dynamics have been burning money like crazy, and it has been the reason why Google sold them and now Softbank sold them too. It is exciting though to think what could they do in the future, however it needs to be considered that they do not perform near as well outside of very controlled environments.

True, but AI is also about using said model to make optimal decisions under uncertainty, and updating that model given new information from the environment. Even with the gaps you have correctly highlighted, AI is still very powerful.

Honestly, any form of AI that can do some general purpose thing will need to involve some sort of meta-learning, which so far has been achieved either by multi-task learning or reinforcement learning. In all cases, currently it is pretty terrible except for some very specific problems (neural architecture search for example).

I do not think we are anywhere near the point of starting to get worried.

In 10 years they'll probably have managed to program 10 more dance routines into them, at a push. What do they think we should be imagining?

When those things get a gun and access to Google Maps, we're boned.
