The footage never gets any less shocking. The speed at which fire engulfs the entire stand is insane.

56 dead and hundreds more injured.

Yeah footage is horrendous isn't it. The stand became an inferno in about 5 minutes. The way football is run is, and always has been, scandalous.

It's an incredible video, seen it numerous times, but as you say never gets less shocking.

Wooden stadium, tons of dry litter fallen through floor that can't be reached, people allowed to smoke, just surprised it didn't happen before.

Never seen that before, horrible stuff.
The one guy on flames is pretty shocking stuff.

Looked like they did a fantastic job to clear the stands, and still 56 died, that's the most shocking part.

But a wooden stand sounds dangerous enough. The idea of smoking being allowed then too, is just incredible.

Horrendous. My friend was there in the stand opposite that one. It was his first and last football match. He still says to this day he can’t attend another match.

Watching it I asked myself why people didn't use the rear exits and what those late people were doing all that time, apparently the rear exits were boarded or padlocked.

I had a read online, and it said something like 27 of the 54 victims were found by an exit, so maybe they tried that way, and couldn't get out?

In the days where stands were made out of wood, yet people were allowed to smoke, it probably wouldn't be surprising if the gates were all locked while the game was on, or something like that.
Incredible looking back.

If you look at the ages of those poor souls who died that day most were very old, or very young. I imagine they'd have been at a major disadvantage when it came to trying to escape the inferno.

Awful tragedy.

Forest Green new stadium going to be made out of wood.

Obviously helps cigarettes banned from football grounds now as IIRC a discarded butt caused the Bradford fire.

It was a disaster waiting to happen - wooden stand, no risers, smoking in the stand and the space underneath the stand full of paper - roof probably also had years of tar as waterproofing. Used to go there regularly in the 70's as a student and it was just the same. The horrible thing is reading that list the number of fatalities that were obviously families wiped out.

I was doing some research about football stadium disasters a few years ago as I find them fascinating and horrendous at the same time. I once stumbled across the radio commentary from that day on YouTube.

Absolutely horrific.

That stand went up so quick youd think it was made of petrol. Its always so disturbing to see things like this that could have been so easily avoided with a little care. RIP.

Awful tragedy.
Really puts it into perspective when you see the names and ages of the people who died. Terrible tragedy as you say.

Have always found it unsettling seeing people celebrating and chanting as people were burning to death.
