Apparently LVG had a great football brain as a player, but he lacked the talent to actually execute what he wanted to do. At least that's what his teammate at Sparta, Danny Blind (Daily's dad) said.

Every great team has had a mix of both. So both for me clearly. This applies to many other things in life.

I would have thought any professional football player would have talent and brains, what separates the best comes down to attitude, composure when under pressure and a total belief and confidence in their own ability added to an intelligence to read and plan a move before anyone else. It takes a lot more than just brain and talent.

I think brain and talent only make up 2 sides of the triangle. The third being physical attributes (size, strength, pace, stamina etc).

To be a top player you have to have at least two of the 3.

Guys with great intelligence and talent but who lack size or pace often make great playmakers - Messi, Bergkamp, Silva etc.

Guys with great pace or strength and talent but who lack good decision making (or brains) often end up as wingers or strikers - Nani, Balotelli, Rooney etc.

Then your lads with brains and physique, but who might lack the ball playing ability of others often make great defenders - Neville, Adams, Terry etc.

Brain - Rashford
Talent - Martial
What? Martial's ability at picking out runs and making passes behind defenders, off the ball movement, creativity, and vision is probably the second best behind Pogba.

Like someone else said, you can't separate "brain" and "talent", you especially can't do the things Martial does without a good footballing IQ. Ridiculous.

okay ill state in another, more palatable way
Rashford - Brain > Talent
Martial - Talent > Brain
