Nice little city, easy trip for me living near London.

What do we know about their team? I know they’re top of the league. Warrants respect but players to watch etc.

Evil fans apparently

The last time we played that lot in the CL qualifier a few years back I took my wife and kids and the Brugge fans were disgraceful.

The escorted away fans kicked off outside the stadium and Neville's hotel and the security guards to the hotel had to pass my kids over the barrier to get away from the trouble. Then they were chucking bottles of piss and spitting at our fans leaving the stadium early, just below the away section at women and kids. They were getting covered.

Horrible lot!

Obertans #1 fan.
I went to see Bruges a few years ago. It was a CL qualifier v panathanaikos. It was an amazing city and the fans welcomed me and my mates. Good atmosphere as well.

I thought that winning our group meant that we couldn't draw one of the CL teams?

The worst 4 clubs out of those who finished 3rd are unseeded. (Shakhtar, Brugge, Bayer & Olympiacos)

That raises another question with me: did Alkmaar get a better draw than us finishing second? LASK would seem an easier draw to me, but I don't know enough to say for sure.

Very solid team, in principle hard to score against, but they face very little (quality) competition in Belgium at the moment. They have some speedy, nifty attackers up front and a (for Belgian standards) great midfield with Vormer and Vanaken as focal points. Utd should have too much for them but you could be in for a tough draw if you don't play well.

Bruges as a city is highly recommendable as well of course. It's only 1h30min away from Calais so could be done as a day trip even.

They actually played each other in the CL play-offs. Bruges won both games.

I didn’t realise that, thanks; sounds like we definitely got the worse end of the deal here then.
We got one of the 4 CL teams that we could possibly have drawn, Arsenal as well. Could have been worse. Could have gotten Shakhtar or Leverkusen.

Haven't seen much of them apart from the two matches versus Real Madrid. Their speedy forwards totally killed Real at the back, should have won easily at Bernabeu. For the second match which was a dead rubber, they could have gotten a draw.

Not an easy tie this one.

Indeed, I just meant in comparison to who Alkmaar drew after finishing behind us. But yes, definitely could be worse.
