Sometimes you can forget just how big a club United are, but Lewes know. We're the front page of their website and they're doing press releases through the local press:
https://www.lewesfc.com/
It's an all-ticket match so if you fancy a trip then you need to book on their site.

Why the Pankhurst connection? Well it's eyecatching for one and they like to feature a female from the visiting team's home town on their posters - Emmeline Pankhurst came from Manchester. Helen Pankhurst is guest of honour at the match and she's Emmeline's granddaughter.

And it is catching press attention for them as with https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/17254322.lewes-versus-man-united-yes-thats-right/

and

A bit more background on Lewes, a place previously only really famous for its bonfire night celebrations, but they've got a football club with a new story to tell.

In football romance terms, Sunday's match is very much a "good v evil" event. The community owned club v the richest club in the world. "Equality FC" that has the same budget and uses the same pay scale for its semipro men's team and its women's team versus the club that had to be PR bullied to set up a women's team.

It's worth saying that like many local clubs, most of their money comes from membership fees (owners in Lewes' terms), sponsors, renting out their pitch, and similar fundraising, rather than from gate receipts. It is very much a community club rather than a commercial operation or a club striving to run a pro League team.

The ground has a capacity of 3000 (600 seated) but the club's record crowd is 2500. Sunday's game is an all-ticket match.

Like the Lewes men (currently in the Isthmian League - the seventh tier of English football) Lewes women have spent most of their time in the regional leagues, but that boost the club gave them when it opted for equal funding made it possible for them to get a Championship place.

They added to their team in the summer, but a lot of the squad were with them last year as well. Their current record is W3 D1 L5 - that puts them in eighth place. Again though, the crunch is: Spurs, Durham and Charlton have already beaten them. So we have to do the same.

Thanks @jojojo good post!
Anyone here going to their stadium? I don't know why the clubs don't stream their games vs us. Should be watched by many. Surely feasible to put some ads on it.

Tickets available on the gate or online at:
https://www.tickettailor.com/events/lewesfootballclub2/185250/#

From the ticketing site:
Kick Off is 2pm

The Dripping Pan is right by Lewes train station but there is £2 parking nearby too.

Doors open at noon with lots to do...

  • 12:45 to 13:05 - Helen Pankhurst addresses the fans on the terraces. Followed by Q&A in the Rook Inn bar
  • Skulldrummery drummers
  • Delicious hot food for the whole family
  • Rook Inn bar including our famous Prosecco & Cake
  • KidsZone activity area including face-painting and colouring
500+ seats undercover and 700+ standing undercover. Seats cannot be reserved - first come...

Sounds like they're making a day of it.

They pushed the kick off time back to 2?

That's annoying for those that wanted to watch the North London derby

I think a lot of the WSL matches kickoff at 2pm. United are the oddities for liking the noon starts really. I like the earlier times as well, so I'm hoping that doesn't change for our own home games.

I'll correct my mistake in the title

Any YouTube channels or coverage of this game in any form? Or just the usual twitter account updates.

Lauren James on the subs bench - I'm hoping she'll start our mid-week Cup match.

Looks like it's a twitter game. Whether we get any goal clips etc posted mid-match I guess will depend on the 4G signal at the ground!

Crowd looks decent again from the clip Lewes have tweeted. What do they normally get @jojojo - do you know?
Yeah the crowd does look good, the drums as well for the entrance.

Don’t know how to embed tweets but here goes.

Yeah that looks like it failed massively.

Looks like someone has sort of fixed it, so whoever you are thanks.

Might just be the angle that video is taken from but it looks packed, gutted we can’t see this game, the woman’s team are the best thing about United atthe moment.

0-0 at halftime. Apparently we've had the possession but not many clear cut chances and Lewes have had scoring opportunities. I'm guessing Casey will make a couple of subs during the interval - she doesn't usually wait if she wants to change the shape of the team round.

Thanks mate.

A United chance from the first half

Second half underway. Leah Galton and Charlie Devlin have come on. Amy Palmer and Lizzie Arnot go off.

Our goal for 0-1

That's Jess Sigsworth passing to Mollie Green who scores.

Lauren James comes on, she's replacing Jess Sigsworth.

Lewes IS down south.

That said, there's at least one car-load of regulars from the home games who drove down there this morning and a couple who were in Southampton yesterday who never went home! They've even got some of the flags with them. So there will be a couple of Manc accents in the crowd.

Ella Toone gets our second, 0-2 now. Scored after a missed penalty. Theball got stuck in the mud

Sky have it that Spurs won 6-1.

Fake news. :D The BBC got one the wrong way round a couple of weeks ago, so I think this happens a lot. Anyway, Spurs lost and we're now three points clear (with a game in hand), 4 point ahead of Spurs (same number of games).
