You should have thought about that when allowing everyone to sell players at any time during the auction for a 10m cut, not my fault that your rules aren't aligned with your objective.

You're having a laugh if you think I'm gonna take a punishment because you missed out important details in the rules. If you are changing the rules then restart the reinforcement round with the revised rules, else continue with what was written. No other way as far as I am concerned.
Nothing is restarting.

As an experienced drafter you should be pointing out the flaws ahead of time rather than exploiting them as far as I'm concerned.

We recently had a football draft where all players including those picked by managers were thrown back in the reinforcement pool, like I've said before, there's no advantage for anyone even if we play by these rules and it is very much feasible. The reason people are not wanting to accept it is because they didn't base their strategy considering that, and some others did. But it is only a flaw if you consider picked players not being thrown back into the auction or going into an endless loop. That, yes is a flaw and should have had a restriction to not be allowed.

Either ways, as an experienced drafter I can tell you that rules are not changed in the middle of the drafts without rolling back to an agreed upon point, which in this case would be the start of the reinforcement round.

And lastly, there's literally no way whatsoever I am gonna agree to taking any penalty because the rules have to changed in the middle. It's not a great situation but you have the ownership of the rules, not me.

To be frank, I agree with @Moby. You can't penalize him for what he did after he has done it. Best scenario would be to give other teams the option to sell one of their own players and buy them back to up their budget in this round. This should be a one time activity only, after which no more buying and selling the same player should be allowed.

That only favours those who overpaid

I know, but those who didn't don't have to worry either considering they already should have some additional cash in reserve through a combination of diligent spending in the last round and careful selling in this.
Anyway, it's just a suggestion. Ultimately @Samid makes/has made the final call.

Skills you are an engineer, you should get the basic maths here. We all had the same starting budget. It literally doesn't matter if you bought 12 10m players or 3 70m ones and 9 10m ones. You will be in exactly the same situation.

The sale price of a player should be whatever he's then sold for on the market.

I.e. you can sell McGrath back to the bank for 20m and then as the bids go up, you recoup more money on him.

No you won't. If you sell 1x 80m player to refinance you get a 10m penalty. If you sell 2x 40m players to refinance you get a 20m penalty and more penalties, the more players you have to sell.

So you won't be in exactly the same situation.

Yeah that's a fair point, but that still balances with the fact that those who overpaid for 2-3 players had to contend with leftovers in the initial draft. As someone being in that position, I can say that selling McGrath isn't really a great decision for me and was pretty much forced. I can buy 2 players for that value from the remaining pool and it won't be as good as having him.

Either ways, that's all academic. What we need to decide is how to proceed right now. If @Samid is sticking by the decision earlier then you can count me out of the draft.

I think that's the whole point though right? You got 2x superstars but have to work around some cannon fodder in your team.

I still think the best way to sell players is at market value. You can sell back to the bank initially for base price and once they are sold, you get the sold amount. Then if you want to sell, you will put him up when everyone's got money to bid.

Those who overpaid, it was their decision, wasn't it? So 'had to contend with leftovers' was by own design. I think I had mentioned to EAP that time only that given Moby's penchant for stone age era players, he will fill up other spots with good players from that era for cheap which is fair thing. You can't later call them leftovers

In terms of a draft vote, that's still a leftover. Obviously with 100+ years of test cricket you aren't gonna run out of quality players for a long time.

I'm not any kind of auction expert to comment on how these things work in real life. If we take the IPL auction as an example, players are released before the auction and 3-4 or something like that are retained by the teams, and the rest are open for auctions. But you don't have the option of selling in an auction. It isn't just me, @crappycraperson also sold Lara after buying him in this round itself after he realised he had overlapped with other players. The whole selling business is what makes this complicated, and probably shouldn't have been in place in the first place. This isn't something I envisaged at the time it was put in place before @Samid tells me I should have alerted him. But I don't think we had this in previous auctions and specially I don't think we could keep buying and selling endlessly in the same round.

Right guys. My previous verdict on the punishment is reversed. There will be no punishment for buying back players you've sold. New verdict:

Until 18:00 GMT tonight everyone can sell players for 10m. After that point the sell fee will be 30m regardless of how much the player cost.

I'd still discourage selling expensive and buying back cheap because the people you’ll be trying to gain an advantage over will be the same who will be voting on your match.

That's different because like you said the players are released. The franchises didn't get to sell them.

I'd personally say go over the rules with everyone and restart the reinforcements. It's a couple of days of bidding and we all already knew what players we were bidding on. Just saying that's generally the way to go when such a situation happens, and we remember this for the next time.

One problem with 30M thing Samid. Say people have 10m players which they no longer want and are getting rid just to keep squad limit till 15 and are not getting any advantage from it budget wise (may not be problem for this round but can be for next), this will be unnecessary punishment.

Yeah the selling bit can't be done in a simplified manner. The same thing happened when we had trades in an previous auction draft, people went crazy with 3-4 team deals and it all crashed and burned. Overall I think keeping things simple is the way to go. Don't put in rules unless they can be implemented in a simplified way.

I think selling is fine, it just needs a bit of tweaking. Even you recognise, that selling McGrath for 57m and then picking him up for around 20m would be ridiculous. That gives you enough money for another Viv Richards or Shane Warne this round.

If it's refinancing for about 5-10m (which is basically what I did with selling Ponting for Steve Smith), I don't think that's game breaking

10m less you mean and not that you get 10m if you sell a player

Not if you look at exactly what happened, or could have happened. I buy your point that one penalty vs. 4 penalties favours those who spent more on 1-2 players initially. But in this case, two things can happen. If I went the cream of the crop from the reinforcement pool, I have to sell McGrath at the start, and most people who have their full funds can go for him. Or what actually happened, all the best players were picked and now I had to sell him and hope I get him back. Like I said I won't take any combination of 2 players from what is left over him right now.

It's ridiculous but everyone has that option. One way to sort the penalties is having a higher penalty when selling an expensive player. So if I sell someone over 50m I get a 20m penalty or something like that.

It's better to restart the reinforcement round with managers selling the player first before the bidding starts.
Would be unfair on people like @Norris who've gotten a few bargains in the reinforcement round
