Sure Dave's contract is 4 years with option to extend a further year.

Edit; from when he signed last summer.

A lot of those will have the optional one year on top won't they? That seems to have been the done thing under Woodward. So the likes of Shaw, Herrera and Blind who signed in 2014 will have another year to add on, unless they are renewed sooner. I'm sure all of them signed the 4+1 contract.

Guess you’re right. All in all, we’re in quite a good position, TFM being the only one that we should re-sign soon. Valencia will renew if we offer a new one, he doesn’t even have an agent. Johnstone has to move on to build a career elsewhere and the Zlatan situation will probably be re-visited in spring when we know what both parties want. The way Mourinho’s been talking, it sounds like at least one extra year is almost certain. I’m pretty sure this is the last year for Carrick (at least at United), so a testimonial next summer and a farewell to a wonderful servant.

Someone will be getting a very good young keeper for nothing next summer.

Have to say why is Mensah in his final year? He club and manager rate him, so shouldn't it be a matter of urgency to sort that situation out?
Valencia has certainly earned an extension after a very solid start to the season. A season, plus the option for another one would be good for all parties.

de Gea's new contract was a 4 year deal with the option of one further year. So in reality he is signed on until 2020. Extending his current contract should be top priority at the end of 2017/18.

TFM needs a new one till 2019. Long enough for security. Not long enough to settle and sit back.

Blind, Shaw and Herrera need another year on top at least. Lingard probably too.

Dave again at Christmas next year.

Probably true, but if he’ll struggle to get 10 games this season, I’m sure he’d be willing to lower his wages to have a shot to break his way back to Azzurri etc.
Maybe, but most players prefer to take the money. Careers are short etc

Just saw this thread after posting in the Mata extension thread that we should go back to the 30+1 Fergie system, it protected the club very well. Exceptions can be world 11 caliber players.

*I’d like to see a new contract offered during this season. Why not offer DDG a further few years if he’s willing to sign.
LVG and his staff were not too keen on DDG at the time. LVG gang were Okay with DDG going to Madrid before that 0h deal collapse. There is rumor they didn't rate DDG that highly. Had Mourinho reign over the contract extension period then DDG probably sign longer deal.

Jones and Rooney being on contracts until 2019 is such inept management.

If we keep Romero and lose Johnstone without giving him a chance I'll be annoyed.

Don’t think it’s a big difference for Johnstone whether he plays U23 games or sits on the bench for 1st team games. DDG will play 99% of matches anyway.

How was this guy ever our manager! To be fair, probably more down to the GK coach but seriously...

Where is Johnstone getting a chance out of interest? A few games in the league cup?
When you have one of the best 2 keepers signed up until 2020 or so it doesn't make huge odds!

I don't think Romero is anywhere near world class, I'd go as far as to say whenever I have seen him thats he's a liability. Bag of nerves with awful distribution. I think Johnstone should be ahead of Romero and I would have had Pereira (Joel) as No.3, if he hadn't been loaned out. De Gea will play most of the time.

Yea, needless to say it's a given that DDG will play 99% of our games. As much as I don't want to think about it, however, if De Gea for some reason can't play, we need a very good #2 to take his place. Romero hasn't been bad for us but is he someone I would trust for more than an odd game? I'm not so sure...

Not at all.

Maybe LvG didn't rate de gea before he saw him play (which also seems unlikely. Could just be that he rated Navas [a good keeper himself] ahead of DDG before he saw him), he certainly rated him later. DDG played almost every game in all competitions even after we signed valdes as LvG wanted. valdes played only after DDG injured himself in the Arsenal game in 14/15. He also kept saying how good de gea was multiple times

We 'let' him go because he wanted to go. Not because we wanted to sell him. Iirc LvG himself said we have no problem keeping DDG for another year and letting him go on a free in 2016.

DDG signed a 4+1 which was pretty standard for every player.
