Do we have the least professional coaching staff from top clubs?

In the high stake games every small detail can have a deciding impact on the final result - this we can all agree with.

Not even gonna get involved in De Gea penalty stats which our coaching staff must have been aware of but didn’t react accordingly. However, the fact that Bruno has chosen for us to go 2nd on penalties is inexcusable from coaching staff considering the significantly worse winning rate in penalty shootouts when going 2nd (it’s not player’s responsibility to know this stat). Things like these get ironed out pre-game with clear instructions from coaching staff on what to do in certain eventualities and this just screams of incompetence and lack of preparation on their behalf to me more than anything that I’ve seen before. Is there any top club out there that has less professional coaches?

You do wonder about them, Villareal had obviously done their homework and set up to negate any threat. Again we could not work that out. You would think after all this time we would have solved that problem. That we shouldn't be letting them dictate the pace of the game. Our game always looks better when we move the ball quickly.

For what it's worth I think surrounding Ole, who was not vastly experienced in the management game, with newbies and novices for a team (management wise) is something I find hard to get my head around.

I actually cannot understand why a club like Man United won't or don't feel urged to recruit top, top top talents.

As Glazers are businessmen, they should understand that there's a huge difference between a subpar specialist/C-level employee or a top tier one. So it should not be that difficult to use the wage budget to recruit the top experts in every position.

Well, Ole seems to be a very good man manager and his job is to keep the team motivated, hungry, cohesive and focused. The coaches are the ones whose role is to improve tactics, offense-defense etc and other aspects of the game. I believe that Carrick-McKenna are not bullcrap, but I am not sure they are United level coaches as well.

Ferguson had Quieroz and McClaren for the epic nights in Barcelona and Moscow and I am sure the history would be different without them.

Let's focus on finding the top talents, improve the level of coaching and relentlessly work on our weaknesses. It's impossible that a progress isn't seen afterwards. And it's much cheaper to buy a marquee signing as well. And more efficient.

If that really is the case, then he needs to give up the matchday duties at the club. It seems weird to me the guys doing the training, aren't the ones fully accountable for the matchday tactics, selections and subs too. We need to hire a head coach - who's accountable for both.

He should then apply for Darren Fletcher's job as a sporting director at the club, if man management is really his strength/role.

How would anybody on this forum ever know how professional our coaches are?

We'll only know if Mike Phelan is given the Arsenal job and does better or worse than 8th.

The coaching set up at Utd seems very matey to me.

I don't know though, we seemed to have a few more professional coaches when LVG and Jose were in charge and that got us playing some of the worst football I've ever seen us play!

I do think that any tactical coach would find it harder at Utd as the culture of the club is very different to a club like Chelsea or City. There's a huge demand to play attacking football here due to the history the club has.

Man Utd don't really do tactics, they just go out and play.

The state of this forum is an absolute joke at this moment. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and feel disappointed and fair enough if you think the manager isn't right for us but to make this thread after we finished 2nd, having the least joint losses in the league is a joke. We lose to Villareal on penalties, a team we should be beating fair enough, but still a team which was in a final, so they were no pushovers, and suddenly our coaching staff is the worst? How did we finish 2nd then? Players started coaching themselves?
