Donkai Havertz | Arsenal Watch

Just to interject because I keep seeing this bandied about, there’s no chance Kai Havertz is on £330k/week – breaking the Arsenal wage structure on a chance acquisition.

There’s no doubt Arsenal have taken the plunge here and it’s a transfer fraught with risk, but we wouldn’t confound that by offering nearly 15% more than the next best paid man (Saka on a base salary of £290k/week).

The source of this £330k is “GiveMeSport”, how they’ve managed to supposedly get this scoop ahead of the likes of David Ornstein I don’t know. In fact, there is no reliable source for his salary whatsoever, just this GiveMeSport article which has been regurgitated. Using this as a bat to beat him with is so unnecessary, the transfer figure alone is heavy burden enough.

I was not overly inspired by the signing, I think our money could have been better spent elsewhere. Caicedo for instance feels an achievable get if the Havertz money was paired with any additional reserves we might yet have. That said, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and judge him at the end of the season and not join in the pre-season criticism, from a "skills challenge" of all things.

Source of 330K is not Givemesport, it's from German media.

Also one of the most reliable reporter from Chelsea reported that Havertz was on 300K at Chelsea, so it's easily believable that he is on 330K.

The original source is actually Bild in conjunction with Goal I believe, but they also say he takes over from Partey as top earner and that's far from true now, plus there was no indication if that was including bonuses or whatever.

Apparently Saka's wage is not far over £200k a week with a sizeable chunk in bonuses. I'd imagine Havertz could be likewise but at a slightly higher level.

Considering how we had to do a wage reset after years without Champions League revenue meant we were paying Champions League wages on a Europa League budget, I'd say it makes sense to incentivise a good chunk of bonus alongside Champions League qualification so wages match revenue.

Yeah, something in that neighborhood is the likely reality.

When you have spent enough time as an Arsenal fan learning about the club's operations and wage structure and philosophy over many years, it is just beyond obvious that Arteta/Edu didn't sign Kai Havertz and make him far and away the biggest earner at the club, blowing away players like Saka and now Rice. I'm 100% confident in that claim and I don't really care what some random Bild reporter had to say about it.

Its like if you spend a huge amount of time understanding and reading about how much the city of London spends to maintain the tube and then somebody comes along and claims a ludicrous figure that makes no sense at all and is completely out of whack with past reality. That information has zero value, you know it doesn't pass the smell test at all.

Athletic reported Havertz was earning close to 300k a week at Chelsea. If anybody thinks he took a pay cut to join Arsenal then you’re lying to yourself

If it’s reported anywhere on the internet it must be TRUE.

That logic applies to bashing every United player. So it’s only fair we extend the courtesy to Arsenal players.

The reported 330k for Kai is here to stay! no matter what any Arsenal fan claims…live with it!

Seen that figure flying around, which makes this transfer even more questionable if true. Why on earth did Chelsea have him on 300k. Should have passed on this one because it doesn't make sense with Martinelli earning about half of that only and Saka at 100k less. Hope it works out on the pitch because it is going to upset the balance otherwise.

Even Chelsea fans had trouble believing he went from 140/150 to 300k because of a CL win. It's probably a combination of slight raise + bonus fee in installments and the Athletic reporter added it all in like they always do...

Doesn't make sense why he would have been that high over there and I hope we didn't bust our wage structure to accommodate. At 330k he would effectively be more expensive than Rice.

Everybody had him in and around 300k a week though. I don’t know why Chelsea are suddenly financially responsible?!
It was like a 75m deal with competition from Madrid and Bayern, it’s more believable to be closer to 300k than 150k

He didn't start at 300k at Chelsea, that's the point. Everyone will believe what they want. If that's true then hats off to his agent gambling on a clause that more than double his wages on a competition win when 99% of players get a team bonus.

I've seen Spurs fans flexing our 2017 title win with Conte to win online arguments, so I'm used to this
That's nothing on when my Spurs fan friend claimed AVB as a UCL winner with us  (which technically speaking is actually true).

The same source who are saying £330K/wk now (Bild in Germany) were also reporting in 2020 that Havertz was earning upwards of £300K/wk from the very beginning at Chelsea too. No idea whether either is true or not but at least they're being consistent with their reports.

There's BILD's article from when the Chelsea move first happened. €80+20M fee plus a contract worth €100M for five years.

Though lots of other reports were saying the transfer fee was €80M flat with no add-ons and the salary was a lot smaller so who the feck knows.

Did you also learn about Arsenal operations and thought they will be paying 100 million for a defensive midfielder?

It's not just Bild, Chelsea's tier 1 reporter (as per Reddit) reported Havertz's wages at Chelsea and it was around 300K.

Saka earns 290K, so it's around 40K less.

Werner was around 280K per week at Chelsea, so its not some unrealistic scenario to expect Havertz getting better wages as he was very highly rated young player when Chelsea signed him.

Amazing how Arsenal fans are going by their historical wages/spending and assume how they won't break xyz wage structure when they handed 290K per week to a 21 year old player and also spend 100 plus million on a defensive mid player, something no one would have assumed they would do just few years ago.

Things change quickly in football and clubs have to keep pace with that, good for Arsenal they are doing that.

Yeah but that report was more recent and not from 2020 and the question was whether he started out on high wages or not.

A chunk of Saka's £290k per week is bonus payments though, that's only the point I was making. It might be that most of the bonus payment is for simple Champions league qualification, so the seasons we are in Champions League he gets most/all of that wage, we just don't know, like we don't really know with Havertz.

I mean, it doesn’t really bother me what wage a player is on now, it's only really relevant for rival fans to beat said player with a stick with, the numbers are that obscene now anyway and nothing the average man has in common.

So is every player's contract but people never use the breakdown. Nothing to do with "beating the player", it's about posting wages consistently. No one says how much Rashford gets as base wage, everyone will talk about how his wages are 325k per week.

It is anywhere between 300-330k pw - Arsenal have really bailed out Chelsea here - the worst starting eleven player in that squad on enormous weekly wages has been sold for a huge fee.

Arteta was able to finally get the best out of Xhaka, who ended up having an amazing redemption arc. Hopefully he can work some magic with Havertz too.

He's probably going to be the most interesting player to watch early on.

Can't believe he's on €381k!
Now someone swap the currency back to £ without changing the number.

It's so odd to me that he was cack for ages, had one good season and promptly fecked off just as Arsenal are starting to look good

Two years ago Roma were close to buying him and Arteta asked him to stay. He was a great leader off the field and a good one on it (these last two years anyway), presumably that was the main reason Arteta wanted him around.

Whilst the player on the field is one void we need to fill, the leader off the field probably isn't now that Odegaard has developed into a good Captain and we have brought Rice into the squad.

No chance he took a pay cut. We've matched his contract, whatever that was, which has now been reported to be between 220-250k, 300k, and 330k.

At the end of the day, he'll be judged on his performances on the park. Play well, get assists and goals and help the team win, no-one will care of he's on £200k or £350k, and likewise don't play well, he'll be criticised just the same.

Kai Havertz is genuinely one of the shittest footballers I’ve seen play, and it’s hilarious watching Arsenal fans fall over themselves trying to defend this absolute useless donkey being bought for £65 fecking million and being paid £330k a week.

The Corinthian kiss of death! :wenger:

I can see the full season comparing which Chelsea cast off has done best / worst, Havertz or Mount!
