He's done now. He'll be kept on so we can blame the complete euro (No Europa League 3rd place) exit and Liverpool drubbing on him and then rinse and repeat with the next manager we ruin.
How did the club ruin him? Did Joel Glazer sit him down in May and say "play one midfielder or we'll sack you,"?

As decent as we were against Chelsea if Sterling had played better and had not been providing bad passes we would have conceded more.

he has to make us harder to play against in that midfield. It will cost him his job. We’re at -3 goal difference for feck’s sake. It’s not as if we’re scoring goals for fun as well as conceding a lot too.

I do have some sympathy for him but there’s only one way this ends if something doesn’t drastically change soon and he has to realise that, right?

Millions of money spent and several coaches hired and at the end we're still reliant on Fellaini-esque playstyle using Scott McTominay this time and hoof the ball to him in the box hoping to score a goal to cover for the team being crap in possession.

Nothing has changed, absolutely nothing has changed regarding the club.

It started with Moyes after that Fergie speech.

‘Who cares about Klopp when we just hired Moyes?’
True, but Moyes and LvG didn't have fecking lunatic brigades defending them to the extent of the other two.

I wouldn't mind if we were losing/dropping points if over a 12-18 month period you could see a real direction of travel with style of play and slow but consistent development.

We're fecking shit. No style, no development, transfers have been largely shit, we're going around in circles.

Ratcliffe coming in won't change a thing, we needed a complete overhaul with Qatar...it's going to be the same shit cycle on repeat after ETH.

I think in any other time without this Ineos shit going on, he'd be our the door tonight.
We've been patient with all our managers post Fergie. I don't think the take-over situation has an influence on this.

The Ajax shine deludes so many.
Without McTominay's 5 goals we'd be 14th. 19 points from 16 games. -8 goal difference.

Let that sink in.

Which in all honesty would be a truer reflection of the performances. The points total hugely flatters Utd this season.

At least today, he's been asked some tough questions. Not the standard questions.
If he's clever he will know people are seeing the wrong side of this side.

He clearly does, he has started to sound very defensive in his press conferences lately. Clearly knows it’s close.

For me to have any sort of renewed faith, we needed to put a consistent run of performances together where we attacked with purpose and dominated. Wednesday was a fantastic start to that, and then, back to this shite today.

I understand Ole's ****. Former player, fantastic for the club. But with ETH, no. He has to earn his status here and he hasn't, yet some posters are still clinging on to him

'The chosen one'

We are nothing if not a romantic fanbase. It's why I never get on those 'players have downed tools' threads. Always seem to be propagated by managerial cultists on here. And only always applies to our players. If the managed one of our rivals same people would call him shit. Arteta (loath as I am to give him any kind of praise) was given pelters on here by people who said he wasn't good enough whenever comparisons with Ole came up. Same with Klopp and Jose after that second season.

I think Moyes had. I remember cause I was one of the very few who was voicing dissent since the early days, while the majority were wanking themselves over him.

LvG for most part did not have, or at least not as much as Moyes, Mourinho or Ole. Ten Hag is just another level, you would have thought that he is Fergie and Pep together by the way how this forum worshipped him (and some still do), when he is essentially Frank de Boer 2.0.

Not true. A mind boggling number of people turned into football philosopher's and held on to every word of the nonsense he spouted. The **** of VG was as big as the **** of ETH. You need to go read some of threads from his time here.

We're approaching halfway through the season and we have -3 goal difference. Obviously injuries have played their part, but the main theme is the manager's consistent suicide tactics. Pochettino only had to tweak his tactic a little, simply by putting pressure on Amrabat instead of letting him off completely, and we would have lost heavily that match as well. Add to that the unreal amount of humiliating results under his relatively short tenure. There's no evidence that he is willing to be more pragmatic, or that different players available will make it look good, so he really has to go.

Up next two of the worst opponents we could face in our current state...

Atleast Rangnick made for some good post match interviews. ETH's are as drab and uninspiring as his tactics.

Depressing fact: Since the League Cup win our joint highest goal scorers in the league is Bruno and McTominay both on 6 goals in 29 games.

United have a Commercial Board and a Football Board - as long as the Commercial Board is wagging the dog then nothing will change. Its the structure that is the main problem.

You could be right. But even so, I can’t see him kept on here if he loses the next too games. I think SJR will recognise the hopeless situation EtH has got himself into and will want a clean slate. Almost certainly it won’t help in the long term but I really do think the club will want a new dawn.
I have a feeling SJR will move him on anyway, but he has to have the control first and probably understand the full extent of the problem before pulling the trigger.

Yeah he’s facing a lot of pressure in those press conferences now. It is a mad reality but the cumulative weight of criticism (probably fair criticism given our performances and results) tends to load up on these guys and crush them. The boards of clubs find it difficult to ignore media pressure. I’d be amazed if we don’t see a few speculative “Erik has one week to save his job” type of headlines.

The system clearly isn’t working, so either the players can’t work it or the coach can’t get his ideas across. Either way we can’t continue to concede 3 goals, it’s the definition of insanity
As shown in Chelsea game, it can work. But in this game, I think ETH made mistake to set up our backline for whatever reason. He has been beaten tactically several times. That’s a fact. Agree that the score line is unacceptable but we should also know his approach is always high risk and high reward. We will get more high score losses until the team can eventually click. Of course, he has to stay in job first.

It is thoroughly depressing. At the time, I felt Jose was sacked for his behaviour as much as the performances. He had undoubtedly lost the dressing room, but with ETH, I believe it’s purely a lack of quality in the squad is costing us.

18 goals in 16 games, with mctominay our top scorer. It's appalling

I’m curious what the high reward is. We barely have high scoring games and we are 6th on the table

Rangnick's were awful. A coward choosing to weaponize the fans against the players to distract from his lack of talent. The fact he is still seen fondly by a lot of united fans show's how awful a lot of us are as supporters.

I also see Jose was 19 points off top while Ten Hag is 10 pts from top.

This is why it's probably best to look at leagues in isolation.

In one sense, ETH should go. His signings have been poor and expensive. My initial doubts about some of his transfers were suspended as I presumed he knew exactly what he was doing. As fans, we sometimes don't look beyond the player's name and reputation. As a manager, one would assume they look at transfer targets more clinically and have a clear idea as to what system they will play and what pieces they need to buy to achieve that.

Antony has not improved us.
Mount has not improved us when he has played.
Onana has not improved us.

You could add more to the list.

He has been shorn of three attackers with events largely out of his control i.e. Ronaldo, Greenwood and Sancho (I personally believe he had no choice but to exile Sancho).

The problem in sacking ETH is there are no obvious and available candidates. The up and coming managers would probably prefer to continue their ascendancy in their current jobs rather than prematurely risk their reputation joining our shit show.

Now more than ever we need a Grand Plan for how the club is run and how the team players REGARDLESS OF WHO THE MANAGER IS.
