Erik ten Hag vs Sancho | Sancho back in full training

Weird situation really. What adds to that is the fact that Sancho had looked the fittest I've seen him for United in pre season. He was one of our better players, and myself and others commented on match threads how he looked like he'd gained a yard of pace from somewhere.

Now I'm not saying ETH is lying because we could interpret what he meant about training in different ways, but I don't understand why Sancho would lie? If I'd been slacking in training and I got called out then I'd accept it and work harder. But I don't know why Sancho would so strongly deny it in such a public fashion if he knew it was true. Its hardly the worst criticism ever and many would have forgotten about it in a week or two.

My suspicion is that we're trying to force him out. The way ETH and the club handled De Gea shows a lack of class. So I don't believe they're above taking this route if they think they can add £40-50m to the coffers for another of ETHs big money signings.
Its very simple and you don’t have to speculate so much. He is an entitled person who thinks doing the bare minimum is enough. I see the same attitude in a lot of the new people are joining workplaces. They have been taught to believe that whatever they have to say is important, that they are god’s gift to mankind and that any kind of extra effort is an inconvenience and they should not have to tolerate it.

So on par with Sancho in his first season at Utd, where are you proving he is better?
I’ve never said anywhere that he is better. I don’t believe he’s any better but neither do I believe that Antony is any better than him. They’re both just poor.

I'm sorry to break it to you but you're about 10 years too late. Wingers are as involved nowadays in the defensive aspect of the game as a holding midfielder and if they don't press/track the runs of the fullback wingers then they deserve to be dropped.

Do you not see how City dropped Mahrez for large parts last season especially in the big games ? When he was their best attacking threat in terms of goals and chances created from out wide ?

If you can't put in the defensive effort as a modern day winger you won't play. Simple as. The only way you can get away with it is if you're an Mbappe/Vini level talent which Sancho is not...
If you want to invoke City at this point, do you seriously believe, Pep would put up with a winger who last season had a grand total of 2 assists in a whole Premier League season?

I expected him to spend as little time at the gate as possible if he was in first or business.
Maybe he was getting hassle in the lounge or maybe he was just anxious to get away and got to the gate a little early. I really doubt he'd fly economy on his wages.

Sancho always seems to play well in preseason preparations. It is nothing new just as how he seems not being able to maintain his form into the regular seasons.
Probably because in preseason, the opposite team play with the same motivation Sancho has in training :)

If that was the case then why haven't we heard this before about him? How many managers has he had? And, as far as I recall, nobody has ever said this about him previously. You're just making a presumption about his character.

It's been clear as day that since he came here, we've never managed to get him settled and enjoying football. People call him all sorts now but at Dortmund he was a completely different player on the pitch. And he's not the first that's come here and hit a slump for unknown reasons, it's even happened to more established players than him. Perhaps there are mental health issues at play, I'm not sure. Did we ever find out what was going on with him last season?

Umm, have you read through this thread? His previous managers including both at Dortmund and England have complained about his attitude. You can find tweets in this thread itself. This is not new for Sancho. He retaliated in a similar way when he was playing for Dortmund and was called out for his attitude.

Sancho doesn’t have to be lying for it to be true. He may have a different idea of what is good enough than the manager. Ultimately what Sancho thinks means nothing. It’s for the manager to set the standards required.

Sancho might of misunderstood what ETH was saying or how he meant it. I don’t think ETH should have caused all this media talk and unsettle players though by coming out public. I thought he was the type of manager to do things behind closed doors. He helped sancho a lot last season by sending him on individual training. Players like Martial and Antony keep getting game time and that can’t be surely of form… is ETH another one that has favourites and plays them no matter what? He’s desperate for Antony to succeed more than anyone because that was his marquee signing. It’s his job to get the best out of all the players and play players of form.

I am sure Sancho has been told directly or indirectly all that since his last season's hiatus several times after training sessions or usual team debriefs. If nothing else works, you come down to what we have now. Last resort play?

Here's what he sent me. For context, my cousin and his girlfriend are on their way to New York and he's on their flight with a mate of his. He managed to grab a quick picture to send me when he wasn't looking.

People on here quick to assassinate his character but it’s nice to see he’s taking Phil Jones with him

We have heard about this before. You've missed loads of people linking previous reports regarding his attitude in training.

No one is making a presumption on his character when this isn't an isolated incident with Sancho.

Didn't Pep mention that they monitor their players 24/7 on what do they do, what they eat, when they sleep etc. or did I dreamt that? Maybe we should start doing that with our players and keep them on tight leash.

There's no way they're doing that.

I doubt the players would allow that to happen. They have a private life aswell. Be like being under investigation 24/7.

You need to read up on how fergie kept tabs on his United players. They were allowed private lives, sure, but he was always watching.

He hang him out to dry. Immediately after saying he dropped sancho from the squad due to training levels, sancho received a shitload of abuse on social media questioning his character and ability. No one is making up an explanation, ten hag threw a player under the bus and the player reacted. Sir Alex Ferguson always use to say never air your dirty laundry in public. What about that don't you understand?

Even when rashford was late to training, ETH put him on the bench he didn't drop him completely like what he did to Sancho.

I don't know why you're trying to sound like some tough guy, it's got nothing to do with mentality or being tough, but with professionalism and respect and not character assassinating your own players

Sancho isn't the first player who feels they've been disrespected and made a scapegoat by Ten Hag. One of the greatest players of all time Ronaldo, felt he was being handled wrongly and disrespected by Ten hag. I guess Ronaldo is mentally weak right.

Trace your mind back to when Ten hag didn't start him at the beginning of the season because he was at the hospital attending his sick daughter, and left one of the biggest players in the world rotting on the bench. The Same ten hag who signed Antony, who had no pre season when we signed him and was immediately put in the starting line up.

If you can't see the way Ten Hag is mismanaging these micro problems, by showing favouritism and callous disregard for players who are not his buddies from Ajax, then you will find it out how big of a fallout it will result in real soon
The moment you used Ronaldo in support of your argument, you lost.

OK fair enough, I stand corrected. I've not read this thread and wasn't aware of these issues previously.

Surprised we signed him in that case. I was all for it based on what I saw at youth level and for Dortmund. But obviously you would expect a thorough look into that side of things by the guys we're paying to do so.

"We take care of him 24 hours, we have incredible doctors and physios, they are behind him every second of the day," Guardiola told a news conference on Friday.

"It's difficult to understand why you spend a lot of money [on players] and then leave them -- I don't know what the other clubs do.

"Today with this demanding schedule of games every three or four days we have to take care of them.

I was thinking of this. He probably was just referring to Haaland and maintaining his fitness.

we’ve been signing players on obscene money with complete disregard of their character for too long now.
You are on thin ice at the Caf for suggesting a player can have low moral fiber or a lackluster charachter :wenger:

ETH has done nothing wrong here, Sancho needs to up his game. ETH has done everything for the guy but not things will need to change. Sancho should just keep his mouth shut and get to work. Hate this Primadonna bullshit.

You need to read up on how fergie kept tabs on his United players. They were allowed private lives, sure, but he was always watching.

Not quite. He made more of an effort that was generally done at the time, but I've heard quite a few ex players talk about how they partied too much and hid it from the boss. It wasn't even until Wenger came to the Prem that fitness was started to be taken seriously, in terms of nutrition and scaling back that drinking culture.

You don't need to violate people's human rights to suss out their moral character. But there is no competence at the top level of the club and the owners are despicable scum so it's not that surprising if we're not really abreast of these situations.

Because I witnessed Sancho in Bundesliga and was absolutely stoked when we signed, I still stubbornly cling to the hope that somehow there can be a way.
He has got so much quality, at the beginning of the season I was convinced that it was integral to our success to start to consistently use him, and I did not like that ETH picked Garnacho to start over him.
It has gotten much more unlikely, since obviously some kind of mental or performance problem persists, and he then made a massive blunder with this social media post. It is hard to come back from this.

But with the Antony affair, I am again certain that we need to continue trying. We need Sancho, and Ten Hag needs to get the best out of him. It is a major task of his management in my opinion, to find a way to utilize Sancho's quality.
It is a problem that there was no transparency or clarity given to the supporters about what was and is going on with Sancho, when he was out for months. As a result, speculation is rampant and fans have made up their own minds.
Quite obviously that ominous speculation and damning fan judgements have affected Sancho even more negatively.

I hope Ten Hag finds a way, maybe the international break can help to mend things. Hope dies last.

Clarify, explain, and/or apologise Sancho. Otherwise, please just agree to leave.

Didn't Pep mention that they monitor their players 24/7 on what do they do, what they eat, when they sleep etc. or did I dreamt that? Maybe we should start doing that with our players and keep them on tight leash.
Yeah, to me, it's inconceivable that their setup would allow standards to slip down to this level. Their operation with Txiki Beguiristan works very smoothly and you can tell it's a genuine process. I can't even criticise their funding because we've burnt up so much cash it's insane. I sometimes think if we'd just put a load of players names in a bag and drew them randomly it wouldn't be any worse than what we got.

Here's what he sent me. For context, my cousin and his girlfriend are on their way to New York and he's on their flight with a mate of his. He managed to grab a quick picture to send me when he wasn't looking.

Looks depressed even when on a paid holiday.

That's just the problem though, some people for whatever reason develop a huge sense of entitlement and genuinely can't see what the problem is. It's almost narcissistic, certainly seems very vain at least.
I think it comes from being told that you're amazing all the time and it's hard to accept any criticism however constructive.
I really think giving these guys humongous contracts that are close to the wages of the world's top 5 players is toxic. I'd support having contracts that had much greater performance elements but time and again we keep doing this.

Not sure you're much of a judge of this, considering the absolute BS you write about Ronaldo. Christ, are there still people thinking stuff like this, in the face of all reality? Ronaldo was treated by ETH and everyone else with a good deal more deference and restraint than he deserved, and got starts he never should have gotten based on his performances.

Antony clearly has his problems with form and end product, but have you ever once seen him give less than 100%? He tracks back, he chases, he fights for everything.

That's why he's in the team and Sancho isn't. The fact that Antony grew up in a favela whilst Sancho has been on an elite footballer path since about 11 probably is a factor in their work rates too. I've entirely out of sympathy for Sancho, he either comes back pleading for a another chance and always gives 100%, be it in training or on game or he can piss off to a weaker league and shine there. Manchester United is rewarding, but it's hard and it's not for everyone.

Agreed. The issue with Antony is quality of delivery, not application. Also, we do not have a better option in that position. I really have no idea who the complainers think he should be playing there instead. We are probably better with him than we are without him.

Ronaldo was treated by ETH and everyone else with a good deal more deference and restraint than he deserved, and got starts he never should have gotten based on his performances.

Ronaldo's baby daughter was ill in the hospital during pre season which Ronaldo was in distress attending to every day and this was just three months after his newborn son had passed. Ten Hag treated him like a piece of meat who had to prove himself when he returned, and apparently didn't even believe Ronaldo. He was humiliated

Ronaldo felt the only way to let people know how he was being mistreated was to speak out. And he exposed so many issues within the club which we are still reeling from to this day. Namely, the infrastructure, ten hag's tactics which Ronaldo had reservations about and the questionable training he was putting the players through. Ever wonder why our players are unfit and picking up so many injuries?

Listen to what Ronaldo said. This man played under peak Mourinho, Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelloti and never had these type of issues with them until he crossed paths with Ten hag, who has now treated players like De Gea, Sancho and Ronaldo like cattle. When Ronaldo speaks, you listen.

Open your eyes There's a common denominator here and it ain't f-king Christiano Ronaldo. Ten hag destroyed his career and he's now on his way to destroying both sancho and pellestri's career due to nepotism and having favourites. Don't be surprised when the rest of the players get fed up and then when Brighton run us over and you see an array of players not bothering to bust a gut to track back for the manager. You will know why

If Ten Hag wants to remedy this before things spiral out of control, he will get a sense of himself and be on the phone to sancho explaining why he felt the need to publicly oust him after we got beat by Arsenal

He's the manager of the biggest football club in the world, he should know that whatever he said can and will be used for clickbait and damning articles. If he didn't want to target Sancho then there's a million other things he can say.
For those comparing with Fergie, he's the master of knowing what to say or do to a particular person at any given situation. When he put down a player (Rooney) in public, he just won the league and spoke from a position of strength. That's not Ten Hag position yet.

Imagine actually typing this out with a straight face.

But he didn't hang him out to dry, when asked a question, he just said he wasn't selected because his training didn't warrant it. That's it. Straight answer, move on.

All the stuff about him being scapegoated for the result, all that shite that got used in clickbait and damning articles, came from Sancho. That is completely out of order. Where's the taking of responsibility? Players have a responsibility too.

If he doesn't apologise, Sancho has to go. But I am sure ETH has now concluded he's just too weak to play for us.
