Didn't realise the thread was from March, I was wondering why the feck some of the comments looked naive and downright ignorant!
I'm in windsor so we're under the same guidelines. Whatever your reasons for not getting the vaccine, it'll be ages until either of us have the chance to anyway unless you're in healthcare! Phase 3 is supposed to only start in August which is general pop. Not sure they'll enable a proof of vaccine thing until next year anyway when everyone will have had the chance to get one. Canada and Ontario will just have the rule that if you leave the country you have to quarantine for 2 weeks until they get to that point which is still a ways away.Yes UEFA did open the dialogue for limited capacity.
I know in Canada they will essentially restrict you from doing things if you don't have proof of vaccination. As someone who has tickets for this tournament and someone who is against taking this vaccine, I wonder how this will play out for me.
Yeah it does depend on where you live I guess. Ottawa was suggesting they will be fully vaccinated by the summer. But you're right about all those regulations coming into effect once every one gets vaccinated.I'm in windsor so we're under the same guidelines. CL/EL is back next week. Will the CL fixtures be allowed to restart? Or is there a chance they will look to do what they did last year and compress the knock out rounds into the summer?
If that happens (plus potentially an olympics to work around... though that might be cancelled as well) then its going to be very difficult to organise something
Perhaps insurance and who might be on the hook for what will play a large factor in what they actually do
with the german travel ban?... and what if any of the other countries get a variant or a spike in cases ... i think its going to be difficult to envisage it happening without disruptionCL/EL is back next week.
Think I saw someone say that a game was being moved to Denmark. As of now, it looks as though it's going ahead but that could change.with the german travel ban?... and what if any of the other countries get a variant or a spike in cases ... i think its going to be difficult to envisage it happening without disruption
Doubt they will choose the UK as a venue after Brexit with the added visa implications. It will play but only in 2-3 countries. Same sort of thing as ending of CL/europe, in U.K, Germany and either Italy or Portugal I reckon.
Uefa has basically admitted as much but no country wants to just pull out as they wouldn't get compensation so a face off until Uefa has to take games off cities.
Bigger question is what will happen with the March international break given anyone who plays for Portgual or South American nation will have to do the 10 day quarantine so you're talking loads of top players who'll miss up to 3 games in April.
The SFs and Final are happening in London so I can't see that being changed particularly if they get get some fans in for income (particularly in the corporate tier at Wembley).Doubt they will choose the UK as a venue after Brexit with the added visa implications.
Eh then it’s no money because they won’t receive any TV money if it doesn’t happen. UEFA did empty stadium matches with the champions leaguesAin't happening lads IMO.
This is all about money and empty stadia will not appeal
Yeah I think politically there would be more appetite to take the final away from Wembley rather than give more games to the ukDoubt they will choose the UK as a venue after Brexit with the added visa implications.
From the messages UEFA have put out it seems like it will definitely go ahead but they will finalise some of the logistics in April to confirm host country/countries, fans in stadiums etc.Any update on these? Given how hopeless Europe has been with the vaccine role out/the multi-state setup the comp is taking, surely this is in serious doubt?
Unlike the CL, leagues, I imagine this sort of thing is far more attractive because of the tourism/travel levels it provides. If it does go ahead there'd surely be no fans, so would it not just make sense to host it in one place?
Of course it will. Ticket sales are never the bulk of the income from high-profile football events these days, it's advertising money. UEFA won't make as much money as they would from a 'normal' tournament but they'll still have sponsors and TV money.I’m genuinely still baffled this hasn’t been called off. UEFA will not make money from a behind closed doors tournament.
That’s True. Any revenue is better than no revenue for them.Of course it will. Ticket sales are never the bulk of the income from high-profile football events these days, it's advertising money. UEFA won't make as much money as they would from a 'normal' tournament but they'll still have sponsors and TV money.
I don't think there's any chance it will be called off but I expect them to scrap the multi-city format in favour of holding it in one country, behind closed doors.
This is how I envisage it going down, whether it's England or not.The Champions League last summer provided a rough template for this.
Just need to pick a country with the footballing resources to allow for the unique conditions needed.
England, Brexit-related visa issues aside, would be perfect as a choice given the number of stadiums and high-level training grounds on offer combined with the relatively short distance between major cities.
You’d have to separate the groups into different areas:
- North London, South London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Newcastle as an example for the 6 groups with Wembley hosting the semi’s and the final.
The Premier League (and appropriate Championship) clubs in that location would then have to offer their facilities as base camps for teams. Hotels would also have to be booked out for individual countries with no other guests; a booking I imagine most hotels would be over the moon to fulfil.
It would be complicated and require a lot of planning but the TV money involved would make it worth it in UEFA’s eyes. Plus by the summer, with the improved weather and rate of vaccination here, there could probably be some level of fan attendance at games with the correct social distancing measures in place (even if it was as low as 20%).
It seems a long time ago in the depths of a winter lockdown but there was a hell of a lot of freedom last summer.
I really hope they are able to organise something as long as it’s safe and the proper precautions are taken. Which given how well European football seems to have done on the whole since the restart seems easily achievable. This is how I envisage it going down, whether it's England or not.
The U.K plan currently is to get fans back in for the two cup finals (not sure on attendance levels but they need two test events to get guarentee for euros) and then look to get 30k back for euros. Not sure what Hampden Park are doing.Do you guys think it will happen with fans?
