Couldn’t find the old thread so thought I’d create a new one, looks like Fabinho will be leaving Monaco in the summer.

http://www.skysports.com/football/n...een-to-leave-monaco-as-he-seeks-new-challenge

We’re in the market for a midfielder and a full back, could Fabinho be the answer and kill two birds with one stone ? Thought he was nailed on to sign for PSG before the end of the summer transfer window but it didn’t happen.

Was up for signing his last summer.

How has he been this season?

I don't know if he is the right signing. He primarily plays as a holding midfielder so he would be rotating with Matic, and he can play as RB but it isn't his best position. I wouldn't play him in a three with Matic and Pogba because you have no creativity. He would be a good option to rotate with Matic(something we do need is backup) but it might be tou to keep both happy.

No doubting his quality and offers good versatility so would take him but hope he's not or won't be our major summer signing.

Is he any good at RB?
I think he's supposed to be okay there but if we're going to buy a right back I don't see why you wouldn't just sign somebody who plays there full time. Maybe Sidibe or Meunier if PSG need to sell. I think Fabinho as a right back is just a neat option in case of injuries but we have Valencia and Young for now so probably not needed.

There are better options and we are not interested. He tried really hard to interest us last season but we passed. As an aside, you may note that usually players we are interested in and eventually sign do not comment on transfers and in fact are not linked to us until just before we sign them when the deal is nearly done. This is probably due to non disclosure agreements which they sign when we commence negotiations.

Perfect choice to rotate with Matic (something we've been crying out for this season) and then eventually take over fully from him and solidify that DM spot once Matic is too old.

He has been really average this season.. Doubt he would get into our starting 11 plus he would cost a fortune... If we are spending big just sign a player to play a certain position like Jorginho..

Considering Valencia's age, we really need to think about getting competition now. Fabihno is 24 and could also play in midfield. It makes so much sense, especially with Herrera and Fellaini possibly leaving.

Any genuine links to us? The last team he was close to signing for PSG. But Sanchez was close to signing for City...

Is that cause he can't be arsed though.

I mean, it's not a positive trait to have attitude wise and would certainly make you think more than twice about buying him but he doesn't want to be at Monaco at all does he?

He was told he was not allowed to leave last summer owner came out and said publicly. He is exactly what we need and I'm guessing IF we are interested in him. It could be done soon. Similar to the Costa deal. Jose like his work done early and it's a WC year so, I'd not be surprised. But it's still a big IF

He keeps saying he wants to join and I do like the idea of someone who is a really good DM and versatile, but a backup to Matic is not a priority position.

For us that should be someone who's an 8 in a midfield 3.

Thats really likely but I have my doubts and after seeing Bakayoko guy at Chelsea I think he could struggle here..

Underwhelming, really should have taken his chance and left last summer and been an expensive flop elsewhere like Bakayoko :D

Bouhfasi and Di Marzio seemed convinced he was coming here last summer, while Ogden, Luckhurst and Castles said Matic/Dier were the targets. Turned out he wasn't a midfield target at all.

People who watch more football than me... Are Jorginho, Savic better?
I hope we sign a good midfielder and not someone who can cover 2 positions. We have defenders who can cover at RB. We dont need a mediocre midfielder/RB.. would rather get a good midfielder.

They are all pretty different, Fabinho is more of a DM than a DLP like Jorginho, who is vastly better on the ball, while Savic is more like a less refined Pogba.

Fabinho looks more suited to United than Jorginho or Savic to me. I’d much rather him.

He is a good RB aswell.

Fabinho is neither a very good DM nor a top RB. He's like Blind, can play in multiple positions and give a good performance.
Jorginho and Savic are way better midfielders than Fabinho. But if we are looking for a squad player who can be back up to Matic and Valencia, he'd be a good buy.He can even progress to become a very good player in the future but as of now Jorginho and Savic are way better at what they do than Fabinho is.
Jose has said many times that he likes specialists, but if we are looking for cover, Fabinho would be a good buy.

Could two birds kill Fabinho with one stone? My initial thoughts on opening this thread.
It depends, if they held a great big boulder together and then dropped it from a great height but then could you really classify it as a stone? when does a stone become a rock and a rock a boulder? and I guess it would depend on what type of birds we’re talking about, sparrows for example would struggle with any kind of stone big enough to kill an adult human being, you’d probably need a couple of massive eagles or red kites to pull it off. There’s so many variables it’s blown my fecking mind man!

don't see it happening, his stock was high last window, not so much anymore. His form has dipped, he did lose some high quality team mates in fairness. Is there a fee involved for this lad or is he out of contract? I could see a move for a player like him though. I think the way Jose sets up when we play the very top teams. An extra defensive type mid could be needed. Matic whilst his positioning is excellent, once he's caught out he's sluggish in getting back. An extra screen with pace in central mid in those games could be beneficial

It doesn't help that he should have left last summer but the main problem is just that his partners aren't complementary, Jardim tried to use the same system with completely different players which puts Fabinho in a weird situation where he has to compensate for every single players in midifield.

Imho we need 2 in the summer as surely Carrick will retire and either Fellaini or possibly even Herrera may leave

Therefore we could sign Fabinho and a dedicated number 8

ASM may not keep Fabinho past this summer but they managed to sign Mrs Fabinho.

We've got one, maybe two midfielders leaving next window. Fabinho would obviously be a good signing.whether the manager might think he's a little too similar to matic is another question. So far we've been linked with more technical players like jorginho and seri whereas fabinho, whilst capable technically is more in the big, strong, fast bracket.

I’d say he’s better at RB that DM. It’s also his preferred position and it allows him more license to do what he is good at. If he was to come in as our new RB I’d be all for that.
Yeah, he'd be good there. The manager would have to convince him to change position again though.

Possibly... Herrera Mata Fellaini Carrick Blind add to that Zlatan Darmian and that's 7 potential replacements needed. TFM Pereria and Tuanzebe to all come back in. And potentially one of the centres back to leave.

Nobody could honestly think that only Matic can cope all season on his own. We need at least 2 more like him to play that role. Currently Carrick Blind and Herrera, So a Fabinho is needed, if not him exactly someone better but that type. Maybe Casimiro!
