So what is your plan going forward?

I mean presumably you intend to try and scale the divisions in the country, so what happens when you reach the conference for example where the TV rights are held by a company and you will have no choice but to reschedule fixtures for television? will you use the money to compensate the supporters that have had to make alternative travels plans etc?

This isn't intended to be a hostile question, i'm just wondering.

It wont be easy and would imagine there will be something that will be done but what we will have to wait and see

However the club as it stands is not completely against tv football and is on record as saying that tv money if used the right way could be good for football

2006 AGM the fans voted to enter the FA Cup/trophy the following year after having it explained to them that games could possibly be rearranged for TV the majority voted to enter the FA competitions

2007 invision protest, the club was told by the league that no games would be moved then at short notice told both FC and Curzon the game would be an early ko both clubs complained to the league about this but told the game would go ahead all fans boycotted the game and as both clubs would have been fined and or deducted points the game was played with FC just sending the team and the minimum of backroom staff with board members of both clus standing out side the ground during the game
Abbey Hey FC incidentally had a good day as they were treated to a bumper pay out the same day as the FC reserve team were playing the same day and many who boycotted the game turned up to watch the reserves instead

Skip forward to bonfire night 2010 FA Cup 1st round against Rochdale a local game to both clubs TV wanted to show the game on a Friday night after looking into it the board was happy for the game to go ahead on TV It was decided to let that go ahead on TV a local game only a few miles apart as the majority of fans would not have been that inconvenienced with the fixture change

Following round away to Brighton as the first game ended in a draw and before the replay FC were drawn at home to Portsmouth TV was on the phone the same day offering the club more money then the Rochdale game to show the Portsmouth game on TV this offer was refused point blank as the board deemed it unfair on Portsmouth fans to travel up to Manchester for on a Sunday for a noon fixture However this fixture never happened due to FC losing the replay

I see.

That still didn't fully answer my question though. what will you do with the TV money? Do you think it will be deemed as hypocritical if you use any of it? will you compensate your supporters that travel? or lay on hotels for away fans that travel?

I admire the way that you run the club, but i'm intrigued as to how you intend to maintain it as the stature grows.

EDIT: Also, congratulations on your win today.

I dont get it.

What if the opposition wants it moved as its a chance for some rare time in the spotlight?

I fully respect what FCUM are and why they are but other clubs down there love the chance to be televised.

would imagine that would be taken into consideration
however would imagine a game kicking off the other end of the country at a silly o'clock kick off would be boycotted by the fans which I would imagine would not make very good tv

All sounds very sensible to me. They aren't being petty or stubborn about anything but are taking each case on its own merits. When appropriate they will concede but when they feel their supporters are at risk of being messed around, they aren't letting themselves be bullied by TV companies. Good on them.

Makes sense.

Sorry if I came across a little strong. Every genuine football fan has to appreciate what FCUM have done for the lower league game. More than the FA have for sure.

Caught you destroying (football wise) the town I was living in a few years back, thousands of you walking up Harrison Drive to Holt House, home of the mighty Colne FC.

As far as I know, it sparked huge interest in the town and they regularly get healthy non league crowds now. Theres plans for a new stadium too so FCUM certainly leave their mark on the teams they have visited over the years.

Do you know the story of the previous Colne team? Colne Dynamoes. A famous non league side from yesteryear who ironically, were one of the first money club's. A story of how not to rose through the leagues.

would have been at that game

unfortunately some teams still subscribe to the same method to try and rise through the leagues some of these teams should know better as only down that low because of financial mismanagement/bankruptcy in the first place yet still happy to try the same again to try and get back up there again

This may give a better insight

In April 2011, the membership agreed a resolution that gave the Board some guiding principles to be taken into account when considering any future request to televise an FC United game. The resolution read as follows:

"The membership believe that changing kick off times from their traditional slots can be inconvenient to fans and detrimental to the match-day atmosphere. The membership instruct the Board to take this and the following guiding principles into account when deciding whether to accept an invitation to move a game to be shown on TV:

1. The time of kick off proposed
2. The travelling times involved for the fans (FC United fans for away matches, opposition fans for home matches)
3. The impact of a no decision on the other club
4. The benefits to our club to be derived from this exposure
5. The impact of any additional money in helping the club achieve its aims.

Well here's your chance @mickthered Your FA Cup tie with Chesterfield has been moved to the Monday night, you can make an emphatic statement with the money that you are going to make from TV. Local charities, compansating the away fans. etc etc.

I will watch with interest.

FC United v Chesterfield FA Cup First Round match - club statement
Getting to the first round of the FA Cup is a significant achievement for the club and its players.

FC United has been informed by the FA that our home FA Cup First Round Proper tie against Chesterfield FC has been selected to be broadcast live television and that it will take place on Monday 9 November 2015 with a kick off time of 7.45pm. Under competition rules the minimum adult ticket price for a first round match is £10.

When we were informed of this, the FC United board contacted the FA to inform them of our views, outlining the club’s historical opposition to changing kick off times from their traditional slots as this can be inconvenient to fans and detrimental to the match-day atmosphere. We also referred the FA to resolutions passed by FC United members regarding changing fixture times which instruct our Board to take this inconvenience and the following guiding principles into account when deciding whether to accept an invitation to move a game to be shown on TV:

1. The time of kick off proposed.
2. The travelling times involved for the fans (FC fans for away matches, opposition fans for home matches).
3. The impact of a no decision on the other club.
4. The benefits to our club to be derived from this exposure.
5. The impact of any additional money in helping the club achieve its aims.

Furthermore, our recent survey of members gives further guidance to the board if games have to be moved for whatever reason. If games have to be moved then members expressed a clear preference, with Friday evenings, then Sundays being the favoured days with other days receiving very little support. Out of all the options, Mondays are potentially the most punitive for supporters. Monday is a working day as is the following day and Monday night football is a TV invention.

While recognising that TV is important to football, the club also has a stated pledge to seek to change football for the benefit of supporters, without whom the game would not exist. Having considered the club’s stated views on this issue as expressed democratically by members, the Board of FC United of Manchester has refused to agree with the move our FA Cup 1st round game against Chesterfield to Monday 9 November 2015.

The FA has responded this morning to inform us that they insist on the game being moved according to the FA Cup competition rules and therefore we have no option but to hold the match on the Monday evening at 7.45pm. We are deeply disappointed by the FA’s stance and have made them aware of this.

FC United has a proud history of campaigning for change on issues affecting the game and its supporters. The history of that protest has always been about respect for the integrity of the game and not disrupting the match or players. In that spirit, on this issue we believe that we need to make a stand. Protesting at the moving of this match to a Monday is a continuation of the campaign against kick off times and ticket prices supported by fans of clubs in this country and abroad. Most notably FC Bayern Munich fans spent the first five minutes of their recent Champions League game against Arsenal ‘below stairs’ before taking their place in the stands.

A similar protest at Broadhurst Park is not practicable on health and safety grounds as there is nowhere for fans to congregate safely although there is still much we can do.

FC United recognises that there is an inevitable price to be paid for TV but we believe that the stick has been bent too far and it is right that we take a stand on this issue.

FC United’s usual price is £9. If the minimum adult price of £10 is applied, FC United will be issuing a £1 voucher to all adult ticket holders that they can spend on food and drink or merchandise at the ground. This offer will be extended to away supporters. FC United will pick up this cost and this will not affect the division of gate receipts with Chesterfield FC.

The match against Chesterfield will be an all-ticket game. Full details will be announced later today on our website.
At least the board are making their feelings (the fans feelings) clear to the FA. If the fans want to take the protest one step further they are free too. I've not been following the club as closely in the last year but I imagine there is a debate being had about the issue on the message boards. Might try to get down to this Chesterfield game if there are tickets available.

However the money is spent none of it will be lining directors pockets. Some of it will undoubtedly go towards the community projects, a chunk of it might sit in the clubs coffers for a rainy day. Either way there will be little in the way of hypocrisy as the club already made it clear they'd much rather not have the match shifted. If the board were to act in a manner that the fans deem unfit then they can oust them, can't ask for much more than that.

That's a bit better, stop pressing so high up the pitch it's a waste of energy and try to relax. They are not a good side, grab one back and you can win this.

Some of the football is nice, a change of shape and definitely a change of personnel up top could unlock the door.

What an odd (but in many ways uplifting) night.

I wanted to watch the full game but felt like I had to show a bit of solidarity with founding members so I stood outside for 45 minutes. There was a genuine United feel to the protest, it felt like 2005. United fans being angry, rebelling, fighting for a change in football when many don't actually give a shit.

The 2nd half at times was great, yes the football was awful but there was rebellion in the air. "feck the FA" was sung for about 5 minutes.

The last few weeks haven't been great, this club can be wonderful at times but it's far from the footballing utopia it is often portrayed as. There's been a lot of rows with regards to how we respond to games being moved for TV.

Overall though, I wouldn't swap it for anything else. I own it after all. There's a home game on Saturday, I urge everyone to get down, the players need the support. A relegation battle will be a laugh...
