Basically former players who are now overrated based on being on highlight reals.

Jay-Jay Okocha. 90 rated prime icon on FIFA somehow - implying he was one of the best players in the world at one point. I don't ever remember this being the case - he was a very decent player, great entertainer but was he feck one of the best players in the world?

I remember Obertan had some amazing highlights when he played in France. Fair to say, someone is really good at video editing.

Ricardo Quarezma

Ben Arfa - The epitome of a gif footballer, does nothing in his new club every season, then comes on as a sub against some bottom team and gets past 3-4 tired players, a gif is made that circles the internet, and a he finds a new club the next season.

I know it said former players, but Quaresma nd Ben Arfa might as well retire.

Ronaldo has the best highlight reel of any player imo. If an alien had just landed and judged all players in history via youtube, there's no way he doesn't think Ronaldo is the GOAT, specially those highlights from Barcelona and Inter.

Even his misses looked great. This skill vs Verona

jay-jay (the man so good they named him twice) was a great player. One of the best? Not quite. Could he have been better? Definitely. I was always surprised that a big club never came in to get him. Perhaps he was too much of a show off? Not sure. But I know he was fun to watch and who knows what "could have been" if a big club did give him a chance...

Matt Le Tissier. If there's a better highlight reel out there of stupidly good long range goals I'd love to see it.

Tony Yeboah has a good one too, shame most of them look like they were recorded by someone on a Gameboy camera.

Quaresma was amazing at Porto from 05-08 then moved to Inter and went to s**t

Wasn't Quaresma highly linked with United around that time, almost nailed on to join? I could be thinking of Riquelme though.

Ronaldo was every bit as good as those highlights though. Don't think he belongs in this thread(but the link does :drool:)

Guti. I don't ever remember anyone fawning over him back when he was active. He does have a pretty decent Youtube compilation, though.

At the time we were linked with Nani, pretty much all the caftards at the time were desperate we went for Quaresma instead.

I was one of them :wenger:

He played a shitload of games for Madrid, so he must have been pretty good. Just not as glamorous as many of their other players at the time

No, just a lazy fecker
Wasted his talent big time, which says a lot

I have been fawning over him quite regularly without checking his YouTube compilations. In fact, he was partly the reason why I liked to wore no. 14 as a kid!

Memphis Depay.

Though I hear he’s doing pretty good in France.

I think you’re being harsh on okacha there

I was at my mates house at the weekend and he showed me some legend XI on Fifa. It was a who's who of world class players from the 90's i was reading down the list and seen Okocha's name and burst out laughing. Stuck out like a sore thumb, as you say he was an entertaining player to watch but never world class or anywhere near.

One of the best African players ever. He may not have been top 10 in the world but he was definitely in the top 100

Laudrup must be the best example.

Top top player and I loved to watch him but youtube made him look twice the player that, say, Stoichkov was despite the fact that Stoichkov was more consistent and influential for Barcelona and won Ballon d'Or for a reason.

Guti was always potential, even as he was retiring, he never played to it though on a consistent basis. Great to watch when in the mood and probably would have been better appreciated if he was at a smaller club

I don't think thats the point of those fifa cards. Part of the element of that game is players who have 5 star skills i.e. able to perform every trick move in the game. There aren't too many players in history who pulled off as many audacious moves during games as Jay-Jay, so its natural he gets included amongst a lot of much better players. The guy made watching football a joy, and on his day was just as unplayable as Hernan Crespo or Luis Hernandez or Alan Shearer, other questionable "legends" in that game.

It was when we signed Ronaldo. Everyone was going gaga over Quaresma, who everyone thought was our Ronaldinho plan b target, and was more highly regarded than Ronnie. Then, when he went to Barca as well, everyone was fearful. Then came that friendly v Sporting and the rest, as they say, was history

Aiden McGeady has 5* skill moves on that game and has never even been a gold card IIRC. That doesn't have an effect on the rating. Luis Hernandez is another shout - who the feck?!

There's going to be kids growing up thinking Okocha & Luis Hernadez were Suarez/Neymar calibre of players. When they were nowhere close.

Top 100 players in the world?

Not for me mate to be honest i dont think he would definitely be in the top 100 players in the world right now never mind back then.

He was great to watch but never good enough to play within a system for a top side. He was not even a major player for PSG who were nothing special back then and then moved to Bolton which was about his level.

Indeed. I think Neymar has done more in 4 weeks than Okocha in 4 years
