So, what's up with the goal scoring this season? In almost every league players are on track to insane records.

In the CL, there is:

Lewandowski: 10 goals in 5 matches, 43 (!) minutes per goal
Haland: 8 goals, 46 minutes per goal

In the Bundesliga:

Lewandowski: 18 goals in 15, 73 minutes per goal
Timo Werner: 16 goals in 15, 77 minutes per goal

England:
Jamie Vardy: 16 goals in 17, 95 minutes per goal

Italy:
Ciro Immobile: 17 goals in 15, 70 minutes per goal

And, as usual, in La Liga:

Lionel Messi: 12 goals in 11, 75 minutes per goal

That's crazy. We're halfway through the season and England is the only league in which the leading goal scorer is above 90 minutes per goal. Assuming they play every possible minute and keep scoring at this rate, Lewandowski would hit 41 goals (new record), Werner 38 (two short of equalling record), Vardy 36 (new record), Immobile 47 (new record and what the actual feck), Messi 38.

Assuming semis in the CL, Lewandowski would hit 22 goals (new record) and Haland 20 (new record).

Of course that's not realistic and the minites per goal for most of those strikers will probably increase from here on, but it's still interesting that they are on such great tracks shortly before the winter break.

It's been becoming more common. The tactics over the last decade have favoured attackers far more than defenders, especially with the rise of pressing. Not saying these achievements shouldn't be valued (1 in 1 is an amazing rate in any era), but just that this has been a trend that's been growing for some time. Will be interesting to see how long it lasts actually.
