Great United goals that are often forgotten

  • The day many of you wished for has finally come - Match Day Score Predictions are no longer restricted to just 5 goals... *

    * The timing of this change is purely coincidental and has nothing to do with any perception of underperformance by any team in recent matches or fan pessimism, justified or otherwise, for future matches. (Probably).

I thought that Cavani one (the long chip) was my favourite goal that whole season - it is such a shame that it didn't work out at Man United for him (for which I hold the Ronaldo signing to blame). Cavani basically threw the towel in last season, yet before he joined us he had kept himself very fit (ballet or yoga or something) and to start with, he worked hard and showed great movement and obviously an eye for goal.

It makes that amazing chip seem a sad memory for what might have been....

Cole's goal vs. Spurs last game of the season in 99 is special to me. The way he controlled it and lifted it over walker was fantastic! Also, the significance of the goal. It felt like the game was going away from us, then Beckham equalised, but without that goal we wouldn't have won the league and who knows what would have happened to the treble.

Great shooting technique had Saha

Ashley Young could play before he became a workmanlike wing-back/full-back

I always loved Rooney's chip against Portsmouth in the FA Cup.

Not sure if it is talked about often.

Evra's goal v Bayern was bloody brilliant, shame we conceded like 30 seconds after.

Ronaldo free kick vs Sunderland away in 07/08. A genuine quality free kick that goes unnoticed. A token non-knuckleball of his.

Tom Cleverley scored a great goal against Newcastle. I think it is pretty much forgotten because there was debate about whether he meant the shot as a cross, but I think he meant it

Won't allow playback here, but Pogba's first in that derby win that had City's fans crying in the stands because they couldn't win the league against us.

People tend to remember the header, but the first was even better - the move starts at 48s. That chest pass from Herrera.

I wouldn't call it a forgotten goal, but Berbatov's third against Blackburn was a masterpiece.

wasn't there one in 2000s where Rooney plucks the ball on his right and without it bouncing scores with his left..

I'm sure there are more unknown goals, but I seem to have an inability to remember any game of football after it's finished. I don't think I've ever disliked one of our own more, but Di Maria's goal against Leicester. Incredible. Sadly that mad game forced Van Gal to slam the brakes on what looked an exciting side.

Nani in the 2011 charity sheild to make it 3-2 vs city. Because it’s City, because we were 2-0 down and came back to beat them and because it’s basically the last kick of the game. Oh and because he makes Kompany look stupid, twice!

Berbatov scored late on against Everton at Goodison. Long pass from Scholes, lovely touch away from the defender, couldn’t be bothered to take it closer so just caressed it with the outside of his foot from 20 yards. Still one of my favourite goals just for his pure nonchalance.

If you're a fan of great team goals (like Cambiasso in 2006 World Cup), this one by Hughes often gets forgotten:

Was at that game, got the red issue coach. Propper hairy walking across the old car park at the Victoria Ground

Love it. This one too, completely overshadowed by Cantona’s volley in the same game:

And this counterattack:

Rooney's goal in our win against Villa at OT in 2015, part of our great run of games under LVG, where he plucks the ball out of the air before smashing a volley in.

Think he scored a similar goal against Palace in the Moyes season as well.

Don’t think Hughes second against Barcelona in 91 is remembered enough considering its importance.

Number 3 here: usually gets missed between the two bicycle kicks and what he did to Blackburn a year later, but it's my favourite of his:

Always loved those devastating breakaway goals that Rooney and Ronaldo were noted for. In particular, a couple against Arsenal and also one at Old Trafford against Bolton.
