Hayden Hackney | Middlesborough Player

Which is strange because our DOF spent ages in the youth scene in England and got his first DOF gig in the Championship, he should be aware of these players and making it a point to bring one or two every window.
Been here 5 minutes and signed Obi and Heaven... maybe give him till the end of the window no?

Ederson is playing as an attacking 8 this season, needs a comparison to 23/24 (where he was the holding midfielder) Hackney does look pretty good though, good we have got him on our radar

Absolutely disgusting omission of Cockfosters.

How the hell is there no part of London beginning with a J? Nearest I can find is "J Wood", slang for St. John's Wood. Jimmy Jaywood? Maybe we just call him Jay-Jay Wood.

Absolutely no Londoner has ever referred to St. John's Wood as "J Wood".

There is a real lack of Js. Clapham Junction? I have a vague memory of calling that place "Junction" but I might be getting it mixed up with a place in the Dune books.

Loved Ken Kensington in Toast of London

As someone who was born in Tooting, this...
"Tooting Broadway

Tooty B"

...is an abomination.

 I'll pass on your dipleasure to the author if I ever meet him.

Back to the letter J, suppose it's rarer than one might think. Seems like a fairly common letter, but I do remember a quiz question where St Johnstone were the only professional football club in Britain with a J in their name at all at one point. Not sure if they still are.

John Jubilee is the best I can come up with. Jubilee Gardens and the Jubilee Line.

I've frequent a Championship Reddit and it doesn't seem that this guy is especially rated highly. Boro fans were pretty critical of him earlier in the season, though I'm aware he improved a fair bit and the team in general were dysfunctional.

I'm not sure whether this guy has been hyped up a bit too much based on a fairly weak comparison with his former manager Carrick or whether, like Carrick, the type of player he is goes under the radar a bit and tends to become pivotal when he matures a bit. As said here, I'm fairly confident that our leadership team will know him well and go for him if he is indeed a top prospect.

There are loads of great talents in the Championship and League 1, it is stupid that we give clubs a free go at them only to then realise within 6 months that we should have taken the punt ourselves.

Wharton being the most famous recent example but Hackney, Charles, Rudoni, Ronnie Edwards are all examples of players who are going to have good careers at the top end of the game. who are/were very gettable at one point.
Yeah, I can’t believe Dortmund is going to get a free run at another Bellingham again.

He has been in a senior role for the best part of 18 months, I expect a bit more from him on this aspect because he has a background in youth football and the Championship - most PL teams send their youth products to the Championship and below so he should have a solid network in that particular league and utilising it so that we find our punts there instead of £30m for someone like Dorgu.

Indeed and he has already signed 2 players that meet the profile 1 in each window.

If we take a chance on a Championship midfielder, it should be Shea Charles.

I dont understand why he is not mentioned more consider how obvious he is. Linked to West Ham recently.

A number 6 type of midfielder from Manchester. 21 years old. Big and agile, very good on the ball. Was our new DoFs first signing at his previus club.

Maybe a move to Man Utd is a bit too early for him. But if we give him one more year in the PL there is a big risk of plenty of competition for him.

Shea Charles seems like such an obvious move for Man Utd right now. A bit of a Heaven type of signing, but obviously a lot more expensive.

Is he more a lone 6 type or someone who can play box to box? haven’t heard much of him but looking at his physical profile, he seems intriguing. Does he have a decent technical quality, passing ability and press resistance, those are the things that we need in our midfield, as well as athleticism?

Also considering he’s going back to Southampton who will need him in the Championship, they may ask for a high transfer fee.

He was mentioned as a potential Utd signing in Statman Dave's video about who Utd should buy this summer.

At £25mil he is a steal apparently

What is high? I could see them ask for £25-35 mill. But his wages will be low.

I would say he looked more than decent in the Championship technically. But it is the Championship and at a club like Sheff Wed. It is hard to say how that transfer to the PL and a top club. If it was not, his fee would be alot higher.

Could be a smart signing, if we can't get Ederson. His athleticism and pace is a bit of a concern, but everything else looks very promising.

Looks press resistant, with decent dribbling abilities, always plays with his head up, has good vision and anticipation which helps him to sniff out danger, rather clean tackler in Carrick mould. We might be a bit open on counter but exciting to watch when regaining possession. Both Bruno and him with ability to hit long pass to CUnha, Gyokeres and Mbeumo and Amad it will be like a cheat code..

Statman Dave (good video, link below), suggested him as an alternative that we could afford to Adam Wharton. Idea being we can't afford Wharton this summer so you get a young similar player (I've never seen hackney play so taking his word for it).

It was also interesting that statman Dave thought Utd should have technical midfielders and not defensive midfielders in the double pivot. Let one of the three CBs step out and act as a DM if needed.

I do like the idea of trying to find players from the championship and the relegated teams. There are smart buys to be made.

This is going to be a player we'll be linked with for 90 million in 2 years. We always miss out of players who become stars, who we should have bought for cheap. We have to be in for him.

Porto tried to sign him in January, don’t know if we are still interested, apparently not, maybe too expensive.

Seems like a good player on YouTube but never seen him play , so have no idea.
